A Defence Act has been passed, formally establishing an Australian Army consisting of a small active component and a larger militia force raised with British funding. An active force of four regiments of cavalry, eight regiments of artillery, coastal artillery forces, a regiment of engineers and sixteen regiments of infantry is to be established over the next three years, with the infantry regiments fielding one active and one reserve battalion at the present time. The following regiments will comprise the regular force: Royal Australian Guards Royal Australian Regiment Royal Australian Light Infantry Australian Rifles Australian Scottish Regiment Irish Regiment of Australia Royal Highland Fusiliers of Australia Australian Welch Regiment New South Wales Regiment Victoria Regiment South Australia Regiment Western Australia Regiment Queensland Regiment Tasmania Regiment North Australia Regiment Central Australia Regiment A regiment of marines, the Australian Marines, has been established from veterans of the New South Wales Naval Brigade and other former colonial forces with a strength of two battalions. Consideration is being given to the construction of new dockyard facilities in Sydney with British funding, in addition to projected drydocks and graving docks. |

Australian infantry regiments are to increase in strength to two regular battalions over the next four years. The four regular cavalry regiments will be joined by four reserve cavalry regiments (Royal Australian Dragoons, Royal Australian Lancers, Royal Australian Hussars and Royal Australian Horse), with militia units to organize sixteen light horse regiments of 425 personnel. |

A small arms factory (25,000 SAC) and an artillery production facility (2500 IC) are to be built at Lithgow and Melbourne in New South Wales and Victoria from April 1906 to April 1908 and April 1906 to June 1908 respectively. A shipyard for the support of the Royal Navy and Australian Navy will be built in Garden Island in Sydney from June 1906 to January 1909. |

The Commonwealth Government has officially approved the proposed naval plan, with new ships to be laid down in 1909 to augment smaller vessels which will be delivered beforehand. |
