November 1901

The Serbian Government is debating the possibility of stronger investment into various branches of education deemed vital for future development of Serbia, the most important among these being medicine, engineering and agriculture.

As the first part of the investment, the Government is considering the opening of agricultural schools to help educate peasants on the most modern methods of growing crops, as well as opening several new medical schools to help educate much needed doctors.

December 1901

The Serbian Government has decided to invest $50 million in 1902 as initial capital for formation of new agricultural and medical schools. Experts from foreign countries, primarily South Slavic parts of Austria-Hungary (due to language compatibility), are to be attracted to teach the first generation of Serbian teachers, who are then to take over their role in educating the wider populace.

In addition, the Serbian Government is considering an expansion of the Serbian railway network by around 300 kilometers, in order to fill the current gaps in the railway network. Furthermore, acquisition of new train engines capable of speeds up to 50 km/h is considered as well. However, no engines are to be retired due to the chronic shortage of trains running through Serbia.

Finally, various incentives are being considered to attract foreign investment in Serbia.

April 1902

Despite the changes in Government, Prime Minister Dimitrije Cincar-Marković has declared that he will continue with the economic policies of his predecessor, Mihajlo Vujić.

To that end, the construction of new 300 km of rail lines has been ordered at the cost of WIP. The construction is expected to take 2-3 years, and will see the Serbian railways breaking the 1,000 kilometer landmark.
