January 1903: A new book has been published on the history of Germany and how it has been influenced by Frederick the Great. The Historian has in particularly stressed the openness which Frederick felt towards people of other races and religions. The view to which Frederick subscribed that mixing races made for a strong people is elaborately and clearly explained. As a final conclusion the historian puts forth the idea that the rise of German power has to a great extent been the responsibility of Fredericks policy of inviting migrants into Germany. The mix of Germans, Poles, Austrians, Italians, Balts, Russians and Jews is argued to have created the Germany which now exists. The books has caused quite a stir considering it has gone against many deep-rooted feelings of xenophobia in German society. However the book, coupled with the emancipation of the Jews, which is practically complete and many of whom have joined the new Imperial Civil Service of the Federal Foreign Office is having a great effect throughout Germany. |

24 August, 1907: The German national football side won the second match of the Kaiser Cup today in Berlin. The Kaiserlich und Koniglich wanted to consolidate their lead after the close run affair in Vienna earlier this month. For the Mannschaft, it was imperative they win this match if they wanted to retain the chance of winning the Kaiser Cup. The match started well for Germany, with a long pass ending in a header goal by the German centre back. However the K.u.K responded swiftly and in the 28th minute a foul in front of the German goal led to a penalty. Only an incredible save by the keeper kept Germany ahead. The score at half time was 1-0. Several changes were made in both teams during half time. The Germans brought on an extra striker, changing their formation from 4-4-2 to 4-3-3. With the K.u.K dominating most of the second half this seemed like a mistake of the coach, but he kept his cool and made no other changes. Finally, cheered on by the large crowd which had assembled the Mannschaft managed to score a second goal in the 85th minute, securing their victory. The final score was 2-0 in favour of Germany. The final match in Prague will now decide which country shall win the Kaiser Cup. |
