The Fields of Varathia
Posted Image

Terrain:
Stretching from Varas in the west and seemingly endlessly into the horizon, the fields of Varathia are a wild and enormous place. Leaving the dales and streams behind one travel eastwards across a flat landscape of endless green.
The land here is strange, vast and almost completely flat, so flat that one can see all the way to the horizon. It is especially beautiful in the summer, when the green grass is tall and endless, more akin to an ocean of green then a plain. Yet, as any traveller can tell you, it is also a hostile place, constantly torn by an eternal wind without mercy and so endless it can make any man feel dishearten. The monotony of the land is only broken by a large river or small groups of hunters and nomads.

In the north lays the Thorns a jagged and spiked range of mountains which stretch along the whole northern coastline. Tall and foreboding they have a long standing reputation as a place were great evil dwell. Many fell creatures lurk amongst the spiked and ripped mountains, hunting the dark dells and silent passes.

The southern coastline is very different, a tranquil place rarely scared by war or other horrors. Few humans live here, though nomads wander along the shores and beaches. The waves upon the shore makes a never ending growl, the sound of a million fine rocks being grinded together in their eternal dance. Many come here to seek wealth though, as marble and gems are plentiful amongst the rocks of the beaches.

The eastern stretches of Varathia, past the mighty river Varamoth, are a far darker place, the land here falling into decay. Every step towards the east marks another steep towards the doom. The grass slowly seems to wither, growing from green to black on just a few kilometres. These fields of burned and blackened grass mark the eastern end of the Fields of Varathia.

Wildlife:
The Fields of Varathia are large and seemingly barren plains, yet the wildlife in large and varied. Large herds of wild horses live on the field, running freely across its vast plains. Others large grazers are scarce but smaller animals like marmots, rabbits, mice etc thrive.
Wolves also thrive, their chilling howls hunting the steps at night.

Most sinister of all the breeds upon the fields are found amongst the Thorns. It may seem as if all evil creatures converge on this place. Gigantic spiders, horribly mutated beasts, jabberwocky and even dragons are said to reside amongst these peaks, filling them with fear and terror.

Places of Notice:
Varamoth is the largest waterway in Marador, a gigantic river which flow down all the way from the Thorns to Eribu Valley and Farasan. A thousand smaller streams throw themselves into its flow during the travels southwards, yet even in the northern reaches it is a river to large to be crossed without a boat or raft. The last crossing by foot lies in the foothills of the Thorns and further down it is impossible to cross.
