After the short lived war with the elves was settled, the thought on everyone's mind was what would be done with the acquired land. And the President shrugged, on live television, and ended the press conference. This got people moving. Without government regulation on the territory, the only thing that was off limits was Shortfall, which the government had claimed as its new capital. Everyone else, was free to do what they wanted. There was a mindset shift, suddenly. Everything became about the Frontier, and what glory and adventure there was to be had. The opportunities were endless. The technology shifts that came before the skirmish before the elves had helped give birth to this thought: considerable influences were the mechanical horses that replaced cars and laser pistols that resembled the old style revolvers. Elements of the old frontier, such as random elf attacks and stretches of wide open land, were back in full force, and, like the President said, everyone set out with a good goal in mind, but when things weren't exciting as they thought it'd be they started opening whorehouses and shooting at each other. Twenty years later, Tumbleweed is still President, rebels and outlaws have once again made a name for themselves. If nothing else makes sense, I'll make it short. The world was hit by a tsunami, everybody went into elven territory to survive, elves are an allegory for native americans, and Billy the Kid archetypes are running around with laser pistols and scary looking mechanical horses. Get it? Got it? Good. |
