Two pages have been added to the 411 web site. One deals with the 7-10-2007 tractor rally which ended at the townhall. The rally participants, according to Mr. Simmerer's comments at a public hearing, were there to 'take a stand' against the developing of Mr. Kratzer's farm land and the rezoning to commercial issue. The 7-10-2007 Zoning Commission meeting was adjourned to allow two groups to speak. The commission chairman did not schedule these groups nor was he advised ahead of time of what was to happen at his scheduled meeting. The two groups that addressed the audience discussed farm land conservation and different methods that could be used to save farm land from development. In addition to gathering the above information, it was noted that Trustees Sims and Likley and Zoning Commission member John Miller have been active in promoting land conservation and riparian setbacks. So, there was some investigation done regarding both conservation and setbacks and it has been added to the 411 site. After reading about these programs, I get the feeling that our local farmers may be unaware of the efforts to control development near or around waterways. Could anyone who has much more knowledge about these programs explain in plain english just how these programs would affect existing farmers if the local government established these programs in our township? |
