Hi All I am getting married in Feb 2011 and have booked Miskin Manor. We looked at a few places but this place came up trumps for us. The very first place we looked at and I actually fell in love with was Fonmon Castle but it was the noise of the planes flying over all the time that put me off. Its a gorgeous setting though. xx |

hi im new to the forum, i have booked the pen-y-cae inn for december 2010, although I am still secretly browsing. It is a beautiful place perfect for winter weddings with open beamed ceilngs and wood burning fires, but the main function room upstair is L shaped which is now causing me a headaches with regards to numbers and seating arrangements. there is no set wedding menu, everything is completely tailored and corkage is only a fiver a bottle, but im still concerned about my seating! |

Hi all, Gosh it has been a long time since I wrote the original post, I think the main problem is that I forgot about the forum and I don't receive any emails to say that people have replied which is a shame because I think that so many Welsh Brides together could bring together some great ideas! So let me update you on what has happened since last time I posted, Steve (my fiancé) and I went venue shopping, I am a huge fan of shopping so it was so much fun for me and maybe not so much for him - additionally one of my tasks in work is booking venues for corporate events with senior staff, so I have had plenty of experience in knowing what I like and dislike! We went to: Ynyshir Hall, Machynlleth, Powys - www.ynyshirhall.co.uk Glanusk Estate, Crickhowell, Powys - www.glanuskestate.com Buckland Hall, Brecon, Powys - www.bucklandhall.co.uk Llansantffraed Court, Nr. Abergavenny - www.llch.co.uk Caer Beris, Builth Wells, Powys - www.caerberis.co.uk Glan-y-Afon, Usk - www.glen-yr-afon.co.uk Gliffaes Country House - www.gliffaeshotel.com The Lake Country House, Llangammarch Wells, Powys - www.lakecountryhouse.co.uk Mellington Hall, Churchstoke, Powys - www.mellingtonhallhotel.com Cwrt Coleman, Bridgend - www.court-colman-manor.com Margam Park, Port Talbot - www.neath-porttalbot.gov.uk/margampark Miskin Manor, Miskin, Nr. Cardiff - www.miskin-manor.co.uk Vale Hotel, Vale of Glamorgan - www.vale-hotel.com Egerton Grey, Barry, Vale of Glamorgan - www.egertongrey.co.uk Coed-Yr-Mwstwr, Bridgend - www.coed-y-mwstwr.com Duffryn Gardens, Vale of Glamorgan - www.dyffryngardens.org.uk Tredegar House, Newport www.newport.gov.uk/_dc/index.cfm?fuseaction=thingstosee.tredegarhouse Llachwyn Hall, Nr. Pontypridd, Mid-Glamorgan - www.llechwen.co.uk Maes Manor, Blackwood - www.maesmanor.com They all had they great, good and not so good points about them and if you wnat me to share on anything in particular let me know and I will happily let you know. We had already decided that we didn't want to get married in Cardiff (various reasons) so that ruled out County Hall, St Davids and all the others alike Then we decided that we would like to get married in Mid Wales (we are both from South Wales but love the scenery and views up there - so we decided it made the 4 hour journey from London for the guests worth it) So one afternoon while on a drive we came across Llangoed Hall (www.llangoedhall.com) as soon as I stepped in through the door I knew this was where I wanted my Wedding reception. The hotel, for those who haven’t been there is owned by the ‘Ashley’ family (Laura and Sir Bernard Ashley) found on the base of the valley alongside the river Wye, the venue has 23 all individually designed bedrooms – all in Laura Ashley style chic with bold prints and fine fabrics – I knew that it was the venue for us. So after much searching and much debating over whether we could afford Llangoed we decided it was meant to be! And so we have booked it for April 2011 I hope the list above comes in some use for others who are still looking and I hope you are all doing well in the hunt for your venues and other wedding suppliers, next I’m looking for Videographers, chair covers and dj/entertainment... any recommendations for those will be kindly accepted!
