Daisuke walked out of the sereitai, and headed for the rich fields on the outside if rukongai. He was tired that day, and saw no need to socialise. He walked under the shade of trees to hide from the softly beating sun. The small wooden fence opened with a slight creek. Birds sang through the green tress on the edge of the rich field. Daisuke walked through the grass. He did not know why he chose to come here; he was just drawn to a spot in the centre of the field. He walked and walked, until he reached an opening in the tall grass. He had no memory of this place, but somehow, I was familiar, it reminded him of someone. He looked up into the sky, and saw a few small clouds breaking the brilliant blue of the sky. He felt peaceful here. He could not sense anyone for a good mile in any direction. He thought this was a good chance to do some training. He lay on his back, and looked at the sky once more. The knee-high grass rose up on either side of him. He closed his eyes, and concentrated hard. Daisuke could see nothing, perfect, he thought. He saw thin white ribbons begin to shoot up in the distance. He could see one or two red ribbons, but most were of citizens in rukongai. He opened his eyes, and stood up. The birds were still chirping to themselves in the trees. Daisuke concentrated again. He released as much reiatsu as he could, and thick green torrents ripped through the grass like heavy wind. The birds flew off in all directions. The faint flapping of wings slowly died out, and Daisuke relaxed. The reiatsu died down, and the world around returned to its normal self. Daisuke looked up at the sky again. He sighed, and turned to leave, still wondering why he had gone there. He saw a figure leaning on the fence at the edge of the field. Daisuke could not make out who it was. He could not even sense their presence, so he assumed that they were concealing their reiatsu. “Impressive.” They said. The voice felt familiar. “You sensed my reiatsu and managed to track me down to this field.” Daisuke knew now, that this person was the reason he came to that field. Daisuke opened his mouth to speak, but the figure suddenly disappeared. He was confused. The person suddenly appeared behind Daisuke. “Keep looking.” They said. Daisuke felt their breath skim over his neck. He quickly turned around, but they had gone. Daisuke concentrated as hard as he could. He could see countless ribbons, none of which were the one he was looking for. He tried even harder, and could barely make out a thin red line in the distance. He knew it was the person he had just seen, and he had managed to sense them, and break through their attempt at concealing it. He fell to his knees, and clutched his head. He had put too much effort in, and was getting a migraine. He couldn’t work out where he had seen the person before, but he knew they were familiar. Somehow. |

Daisuke returned to the same field the next day. It was clouded today. The bright weather of the previous day had brought a few clouds to the sky today. He arrived at the small gate, which was still open from his previous visit. This time, however, was much different. He had come here for a purpose. Shouji had kept his promise and stayed away, and Daisuke could train in peace. He decided to train his reiatsu controllability. Yesterday had given him training in many different fields, but he wanted to just train reiyoku, for now at least. The sun shone through a thin gap in the clouds, as Daisuke walked into the field, and headed for his special spot at the centre. As he walked, he closed his eyes, and concentrated. He could not sense Shouji. All he saw was black. He could see lots of white ribbons in the distance, the citizens of rukongai. He wondered what they were all doing. They were all oblivious to his existence. None of them knew the importance of the previous day, or that they were being tracked. This scared him a little, as it meant that he did the same for everyone else, and the enemies of the shinigami could be plotting something big without him even knowing. He quickly opened his eyes, and the ribbons disappeared. He had reached the circular opening in the grass, and he sat in it. He looked up at the sky, and closed his eyes again. There were no birds today, and that meant that everything was quiet. Daisuke didn’t really like this. He concentrated hard, and brought his reiatsu levels to as low as he possibly could. He tried to stay that way for as long as he could, but it was hard. The pressure was mounting, but he didn’t let it go. Not yet anyway. The wind around him began to pick up, and he felt the breeze on his skin. He held it for as long as possible, but the pressure became so much, which he had to let the reiatsu go. He opened his eyes wide, and huge torrents of green reiatsu shot rapidly from his body. It spread like wildfire through the field, and he was surrounded by it. It kept coming out, and spread out all over the field. He stood up, to better control the flow, and felt the heavy wind of the reiastu blowing on his body. He smiled as the energy tore cracks into trees, and shook the ground with great force. He suddenly closed his eyes again, and, with a great amount of effort, decreased the output level. The torrents faded away, and the ground stopped shaking. He slowly opened his eyes again. He was not, however, where he had been when he closed them. He was stood in front of a house in his old town on the island of Mizushima. This place was his spirit world. He looked at the doorframe above the bright red door. It read: Watanabe Residence. This had been Ikumi’s house. He opened the door, and saw his zanpakutou spirit lying on the floor. “Heeeey! Mu- kur-” He thought for a minute. “Damn it, I can never remember your name.” The fox sighed. “I’m proud of you Daisuke.” It said. “You showed a great deal of maturity yesterday." “Oh. Err, thanks.” He said. The world then faded away, and he was stood in the field again. Typical, he thought. It was just like his zanpakutou to call him into his spirit realm for something as meaningless as that. He was glad of it though. Even if he couldn’t remember the fox’s names. He looked around, but there was no one there. He had one more idea to test out before he would leave. He closed his eyes, and concentrated hard. Among the countless flames that appeared before his eyes, each representing a different soul, he could se a very familiar flame. He had remembered it vividly, and he knew that the flame was Ikumi. He was glad that she was alive, but she was too far to reach on foot, and he would have to try another time. This was the story every time. He sighed, and walked back out of the field, through the gate, and along the path to the sereitai. |
