A bit about the author: My name is Eka Jierda, I am a Canadian rts veteran. I am on 2.5 years of playing the game Astroempires and I started this game during the Beta (in February). The basics of troops: What to build if you do not know how you're going to end up doing things. Alright now you're a budding war legend and you're ready to start taking the server by storm but 1st you need troops, here are the basics. BUILD ALL THE ARCHERS YOU CAN AND GET A HIGH ABILITY COURAGE PURE! That is the most basic thing you can do. To explain this here are the advantages/disadvantages of troops Halberdiers: the good: These guys come in huge quantities and hold tons of resources, great fodder against charioteers and a solid backbone for early on defence. the bad: These guys are very weak and even though they're cheap they're pretty useless if you don't have a ton of them. the ugly: You will be slaughtered by archers forever. Swordsmen: the good: No beginner benefits the bad: These guys do not come in huge quantities and are slow to move. the ugly: Charioteers are extremely good at wiping you out and archers will beat you with any level of strategy in combat Archers: the good: Strong offensive unit who gets a 1st strike opportunity the bad: The 1st strike only does 50% (1/2) damage the ugly: Unfortunately, if you fight charioteers and do not kill them all, you will be in trouble Charioteers: the good: Very fast unit, strong offensive force making it the best unit when archers are not sufficient the bad: While their price for strength is good they're still a costly unit the ugly: For balance's sake you can't carry very many of these compared to the other units Now that you've seen the basics of troops and been shown the golden rule (ARCHERS ARE YOUR BEST FRIEND) it's time to start looking at strategy. As we know there are 3 legend classes, seer/warrior/monk. Now monks have good magic, seers have strategy and warriors have courage. Here is how to make these works. Monks: These guys should be governors and not warriors, do not focus too much on magic if you're using these guys, it's just not worth it. Most magic points should be armour bonuses. Seers: It's a lot harder to get a high ability seer (>30) than any other class so make these guys count. High strategy is a must and here's why. Looking back to troops we see that halbardiers, charioteers and archers are the troops to use early on. Now taking that one step further we will say charioteers and archers should be the bulk of your army. Since that's our strategy (because charioteers are strongest of the 2 melee troops) we want to make the best use of charioteers. Now in order to do that we look to charioteers. These guys are strong but few, so we want strategy to give them all the quantity they can get. A simple idea of taking the best we have, and throwing as much as possible at the enemy. Warriors: Warriors are not tough famous legends relatively speaking so you will really benefit from getting them early on. Now of course I said seers were the strategy guys for charioteers, and that you need archers. That leaves warriors as the archer class. This class has 1 simple goal: Kill every enemy with the archer's 1st strike attack. By doing this you will lose 0 archers (unless facing archers) and it will be very easy to make lots of attacks. To do this you want a courage legend. Maximize courage to maximize 1st strike damage, this concept will work great. IMPORTANT NOTE: it is possible to have a courage seer or strategy warrior. Doing this will work fine, so long as you only boost one above the beginning level/armour boost. Do not divide them too much but by keeping one stat slightly higher you can reap benefits (if you play it smart) You're bigger, now what: Alright so you've got your troops you've made your profit you even have armour and specials. You should probably be fine on your own but just incase here are some pointers and a few tricks. New famous legends: Just a reminder that when you're getting these guys it's really discouraging to see a level 1 beside your level 50. Here are 3 easy pointers for helping ease things: 1. Save your daily task items: If you're at the ranks where you get a boon (free xp) from daily tasks save them! Then when you get a new famous, use them all at once on him/her to get their level up quickly 2. Tagging along every fight: Your legend doesn't need to fight to train, getting xp through sitting in battles while the big boys kill the enemies is easy and can get you mid-way quick. 3. Spamming wildlands for losses: Let's face it, 100 archers isn't much to you now so losing it for the sake of xp is well worth it. Try spamming wildlands without even spying, just keeping the losses minimal but still focusing on spamming any xp. The little hits add up remember. Less than 30 ability: I am not going to say get rid of them but... use them as guides and item grabbers. If you have a 25ab level 50 who's going to 1 hit level 7s use him to train your high ab legends. Do not keep thinking of him as important though, just a tool. Trust in the fact 1ab point is a HUGE difference. You're better than me and still looking for some strategy ideas... Ok so this is for the big boys. The 20m reps the 30m reps the guys who really don't need a lot of guides I have one strategy idea for you that doesn't apply to the low levels: Using swordsmen. Now I know your past says they suck but I want you to take a look at some things. You see that high level armour you have a piece of, if it's for warriors look at the "all 4" benefit. It's for swordsmen boosts. Look at those dirt cheap emeralds in the jcred store, they give swordsmen boosts. You may want to consider one legend with the most boosted, tanked out swordsmen possible. They're supposed to beat archers and if you pull out those 50% defensive bonus legends you may find they do just that, humiliate the archers. Alright that is my Units guide to creating an army: Good luck Generals I'll see you on the battlefield! Any suggestions and or additions for this guide private message me or inbox me ingame.
