There are many races in the world of War of Discord. Each one has its own perks and limitations. However, it should be noted that a large portion of the Human population is at least mildly racist and generally distrusting of the other races. From this list, only Orcs and Vampires are non-playable but every race aside from Human and Half-Elf will be limited and be judged on a case-to-case nature. Also, there can only be one Elf PC, one Half-Orc PC, and one Half-Fairy PC at any given time.

Humans: The most abundant of the races, humans are often seen as the baseline for comparing other forms of life. They are the most diverse of the races, being capable of specializing in any craft and capable of using any type of magic. Most notably, they are the only race in which Bloodline Magic exists and are also the only one that can survive without mana. They tend to live for around 70 years.

Elves: Elves are possibly the second most abundant of the pure-blood races, behind only humans, and are known for their fair complexion and pointed ears. Despite their number, they are usually exceedingly hard to find. They rarely enter human settlements but have been known to accept humans into theirs on occasions. They are generally viewed as physically and magically superior to humans but suffer from a lack of diversity. Although an Elf can quickly match a human who’s mastered Fire Magic, they’ll never be able to master any other element or type. They have the longest lifespan of any race and can live for thousands of years but they are not immortal.

Orcs: The easiest to find of the magical races, Orcs are a highly aggressive people and are known to attack travelers without discrimination. They are generally not capable of magic despite needing mana for survival and seem to lack the intelligence needed to build. They are much stronger than your average human and are much more durable. As such, they need to be handled with extreme caution. They’re most distinguishing feature is their skin color which can range from olive green to pitch black. Some believe that they are the result of Elves having been corrupted by some outside force but there is no evidence to support that theory. They have the shortest lifespan of any race and live for only around 50 years.

Fairies: Easily the rarest of the regular species, Fairies are often the subject of folklore. They are typically very small, with an adult usually being around the height of a book, and live in secluded areas. They are usually very peaceful by nature and there is no evidence of any of them attacking another race. They are all capable of powerful illusion magic, being the only race capable of creating solid illusions, and are all capable of flight through butterfly-like wings that they can summon and dismiss. Outside of that, they are not naturally capable of magic. They are also notable for frequently having hair colors unnatural to the other races. Their average lifespan is around 100 years.

Vampires: Not so much a race as a mutation, Vampires are so exceedingly rare that many don’t believe they exist. Not much is known about Vampires except that they are the most dangerous of all the races and capable of feats that could be difficult even for an Elf. They were labeled abominations by the Church and hunted to near extinction nearly an age ago. Most records of their existence were either stored in their vaults or destroyed. They are not affected by the passage of time.

Half-Elves: Half-Elves are easily the most common of the halfbreeds and are encountered far more than most of the other races. What, exactly, they inherit from their Elf parent is random but they tend to either powerful magically or physically. Their human parentage helps make them more diverse and allows them to live longer without mana. Physically, the only difference between a Half-Elf and Human are the pointed ears. They live longer than Humans but not as long as Elves.

Half-Orcs: Possibly the most bizarre of the halfbreeds, there are only a few documented cases of Half-Orcs. They’re usually the result of the rape of a captured human but at least one case resulted from a consensual relationship. They tend to be a fair deal stronger than Humans and live about as long but don’t go above average intelligence. Their skin is rougher than a normal Human’s and usually has a light tint to it the color of their Orc parent’s skin. Most people, the Church included, view them as abominations to be killed on site. However, the existence of the ones formed by a consensual relationship has resulted in a few people wanting to re-examine the Orcs and their culture.

Half-Fairies: There are currently no known cases of such a being existing but, provided the size issue was overcame, there is no reason as for why they couldn't exist. The theory of their existence isn’t just pure conjecture for there are a few passing references to them in certain historical texts. The exact nature of their abilities is unknown.
