I loved my child-hood games. Back when it was all focused on the gameplay, and things like online didn't even exist. To be honest, I think the new generation of gaming is just taking it too far. I might just be saying this because I haven't grown up with the new stuff, but they're just making it all so complicated now. I liked games when they were simple, and they didn't have trophies, online, expansions etc. They were just, well, games. And you could play them for hours on end just chilling out, forgetting about the real world. My child-hood memories are mostly of PlayStation 1 and 2... DBZ Budokai was great, and I also loved every Ratchet and Clank game. |

If you like Ratchet and Clank, you should check out a ps2 game series called Jak and Daxter. You won't be disappoint :3...not to mention check out Kingdom Hearts if you haven't already. And if you own a gamecube, see if you can find a game called "Custom Robo" I agree, in that games are too multiplayer focused nowadays. That's why i'm so excited for Skyrim. The RPG genre is seriously overlooked, and last "new" rpg title to come out that made a big hit was Dragon Age. I don't see anything wrong with downloadable content, as long as they aren't B.S. with it. The RPG DLC is normally good. However, there is a pretty idiotic practice nowadays, where developers have extra cosmetic things on the disc that you have to buy a 100kb unlock code in order to access. Gears of war 3 for example: They have a shitload of extra multiplayer gun skins...however, only about 6 or 7 are able to be accessed normally. You have to "purchase" these new skins in order to unlock them, even though the data for them is actually on the game disc. THAT's bullshit right thar...not to mention the pre-order bonus characters are actually coded in-disc too. |

Haha, yeah, that's crazy. It sounds like they just want money. However, if it's on the disc as it is, I bet there were lots of people cracking it (not literally speaking) and getting the code. It's actually both bullshit and stupid to put it on the disc. |

Yeah, there are cracks and stuff, even for the console versions of games...however the xbox hacking and modding is limited without devkits or jtags...I don't know about ps3 hacking/modding, but I imagine it's similar. I'm able to get one skin/character I want temporarily using a USB hack. It won't be unlocked, but I can have it selected and it will appears as though i'm using it, but if I go into the character/weapon skin selection screen it will reset. |

I hated Oblivion, mostly because of it's leveling system. I played it for all of a few hours. Skyrim is my first Elder Scrolls that I'm actually enjoying. If you've played any RPGs before, either online or console versions, then this one takes the cake as the best. The graphics, while not eye-popping, are at the very least up to today's standard...which is very good considering how large the game actually is. To tell you how long this is, I got out of the tutorial after 30 minutes, and have yet to reach the first main storyline quest after several hours. Thats not entirely accurate, because I have been fooling around slightly, and exploring a little here and there on the way to the objective...but still. Combat you have to get into. While the animations aren't nearly as static as they were in Oblivion, you can win evenly-matched fights by rapidly pressing the buttons and hoping you hit. It's a bit harder to aim in third person than it is in first person view. So if you want combat to be an amazing experience, you gotta feel it instead of button mashing. And by that, I mean dodging, strafing, feigning, aiming...etc. While I said you CAN win by button mashing in most instances, treating it like actual combat can give you an advantage. Something they added that works well in first person and third person was kill animations if opponents are at a certain health level. I had a wolf attack me (And btw, they work like actual wolves and flank you in packs) and just before it bit me my character grabbed it by the neck and drove the sword through the side of its head. The menu system is what really gets me though. Most RPGs have horrible, god-awful menu systems. Not Skyrim, although you just have to remember that the B button backs out straight back into the game and not a previous menu section. You press B to get into it, and press B to get out of it. When it's opened, you have four choices...move the stick to the left, right, top, or bottom. Right moves you to your inventory, and all items have full 3d user-controlled rotational views to them so you can see what they are. Left moves you to your magical arsenal..you can check out spells, and what their animations will look like when equipped. Moving the stick down in the menu moves you to the world map, which can either be a 2d map, or an overhead of the whole of skyrim. Moving up brings you to the level-up/perk system. If you've ever played Fallout, then the perks in Skyrim work in a much similar fashion, albeit they're divided into the individual skills they belong to. When you level up, you get a choice of adding +10 to either your Health, Stamina, or Magicka, as well as getting on point to spend on a perk of your choice. The different skills range from the different classes of magic, to the different classes of weapons, to crafting skills...etc. This has the best aesthetic feel out of any level up system i've seen...You're perk list is actually a constellation of stars, and spending your points on perks causes the specific stars in that skill's constellation to light up. I suggest watching a youtube video on it. The quick menu is amazing. Most rpgs let you assign hotkeys to the directional pad...however, SKyrim is different. While sifting through your inventory or spell list, you can press "Y" to add or remove that spell or item to your favorites list. The favorites list can be accessed in-game by pressing up on the d-pad, and it pauses the game while you move through it. I keep my sword, several spells, and a bow on my favorites list. At any point in combat I can switch in less than 2 seconds between dual wielding swords, dual wielding spells, wielding a bow, or any combination of those. As far as I know, there isn't a large limit on the favorites list. And the biggest bonus to me is the characters don't look so cartoony like they did in Oblivion. Things look realistic-esque now. My opinion is: Rent it. I'll never go say flat out buy something to anyone, because everyone has different tastes. But I highly recommend you at least give it a try. I promise it won't disappoint. Wow that all sounds really great, i've seen a few gameplays of it and yes the world in that game is fucking huge...which I really like, the combat looks really awesome(the strafing, cover, attacking thing you mentioned) and so do the spells and stuff. What got me interested was the things you get to fight, such as a dragon..But yeah i'm pretty unsure, so i'll buy it. But if it doesn't interest me i'll just get my money back. |
