isn't cool enough for a title.
Just got a ticket to go see Thrice Nov 24 at the HoB in Anaheim. I had to pull the $30 from my savings, but it's Thrice, so I forgive myself.

Yesterday I played a jam with my friend that's a professional bassist, and I realized how much I suck. We played an improvised blues/rock with a touch of smooth jazz jam for 45 minutes straight. It was epic.

Not that I'm a bad drummer. I'm actually pretty good. But it was humbling to play with someone that seriously knows their shit. Just goes to show that no matter how good you are, there's always someone better. Inspiring, isn't it? But he brought up some good points about music I hadn't thought of before. One of my favorite things he told me was about selling out. He said there are musicians out there working at McDonald's that criticize the professionals that play other people's music, and there are guys like him that play for a living. And who's the sellout? It's about money and supporting yourself. It's a job.

So I think the point I'm trying to make here is to be cautious about who and what you criticize in music. Sure, so-and-so may play crappy music, but that's probably not their band. Those 9 guitarists, 3 drummers, 2 bassists, 5 keyboardists, and 27 back up singers probably don't suck. To them, it's just a job, and probably a well-paying job at that. Except the singers. They may actually suck. And the other point I want to make is to take your anger out on singers. Most of them aren't real musicians anyway.

Do not follow the zeal of a forceful leader. Follow the humility of an equal brother.

Anyone heard Thrice's new album beggar's yet? If you haven't, go listen to it now on youtube or Pandora radio or whateve you use. Freakin amazing.

Another good band I've been listening to lately is Red Sparowes. They're fully instrumental and have a nice ambient quality.
