Some of you may or may not have noticed that we're running on a different kind of board than usual. Over the years, we've been using Invision's boards, because everybody knows it's better than vBulletin and Proboards for their failing "features." The latest Invision product is Zetaboards, which is what we're using right now, and I've taken the liberty of putting together a list of the newest features that are available to you now that weren't previously .

  • Blogs: One of the more obvious new features offered are the introduction of blogs for each member, accessible by your control panel. You have the option of allowing guests to read, showing which members are currently reading, and whether or not you wish to have comments added. After a short setup, the ball is in your court.
  • Multiple Themes: Multiple themes will be available for members to choose.
  • Collapsible categories: We have always had a large board, due to there being many floors and accessible places within and around Hogwarts, so it's always been a bit of a hassle to scroll through every single forum just to get to one towards the bottom. Now, though, you can collapse all of the categories to help make the board smaller.
  • Color key for online user list: In the cases of house members, figuring out which color is for which house really isn't a big deal, but the boards come with a legend to help identify other members, such as professors, ministry officials, etc. All in all, definitely a plus for newcomers. As an added bonus, the key only shows the colors of groups whose members are currently online. For example, if Tynan and I were both online, it would show both the respective blue and pink colors in the legend, but if she were to sign off, only the pink would show. Pretty handy if you ask me.
  • Topic Tags: You'll notice when making a new topic, beneath the Topic Title and Topic Description fields, there is a place to enter Topic Tags, which are meant to help make searching for your topic easier. This, of course, is not mandatory to posting your topic.
  • New PM System: Back and forth PMs sent between members are now grouped into a single PM "conversation."
  • Markers for Topics: These are little reminders of which topics you have posted in.
  • Online Status: On member profiles, you will now be informed if a user is online, and where they currently are.
  • Easier Name Changes: Most members will not have to use this, due to the fact you're going to register under your character's given names, but for those of you who have adult characters who are getting married, you may want to change your name so it has your new name. Via the control panel, you can request a name change, and this will be evaluated by the first admin to receive it.
  • Name Change History: In relation to the previous feature, a name change history will also be tracked for each member.
  • Ignore Posts: Every board has it's share of less than polite members, and while we do have a policy to refrain members from harassing others, not everyone will be friends with each other. If you're less than thrilled with another member's posts, and do not intend to be exchanging posts with one another, you have an option to ignore their posts. This works quite like "muting" a member in a chat.
  • New bbCode tags: All of our old styling formats have returned, but we are also introducing new tags, such as indent, spoiler, text border color, and text background color. A full list of what codes are present and what they do are listed here. Please note that any codes involving HTML are currently disabled and will likely remain so.
