Battlefield 4; :/

So EA fucked up a while back and let the cat out the bag (may have been an intentional ploy), that they were already making Battlefield 4. I don't know about you but I was a little disappointed as BF3 has barely been out for 2 years now. I definitely don't feel as if I've had everything out of the game yet. I heard they were making 4 before all the expansions came out, which put me off paying extra for those.

Battlefield 2 was out nearly 6 years before its successor came out, although it is still very strong today still ! Yes 2142 & two Bad Companies came out not to mention the free to plays, but the proper Battlefield series was left alone, leaving gamers to get the full potential out of the game.
I just hope this series is not going the way of Call of Duty, smashing out a new title every year...

The bigger development is this morning EA released information, being the two versions available from release:
Battlefield 4 Standard Edition:
-Base game
-Battlefield 4 Premium Expansion (Only with Pre-Order).

Battlefield 4 Digital Deluxe:
-Base Game
-Battlefield 4 Premium Expansion (Only with Pre-Order)
-Beta Early Access
-Bonus Content

Apparently the Beta is to be released sometime this fall and the full game released shortly after, probably hitting shelves in November, the same as BF3.

I don't see what the problem is, I think 2 years is long enough to wait for a sequel, in fact if it wasn't for all the expansions I'd say it was too long. If you follow all the games from the very first there has been at least 1 major release every two years, sometimes every year.

Yes I know but the original Battlefield Series had been spread out up until now. For a game like the battlefield series longevity has never been a problem.
Its always been an all out war simulator and never gets old. Shit Battlefield 2 is still going quite strong and even I've been back on it.

Bad Company was a joke in my eyes and was far to arcade-y for my liking, but it kept their revenue coming in. On a whole the proper Battlefield 2 players stayed on BF2 until 3 came out, and the rainy day players jumped onto BC, which developed its own following.

I'm all for new releases but they could of atleast brought it out a new or different titles for instance revive the 2142 series in this gen's engine.
Then hardcore players like myself wont feel as rushed as were being made to feel, they wouldn't loose revenue because it would still be a big release and even players like myself would buy the new game, but still be have the player base for BF3.
Releasing BF4 this close is just going to kill off the life of 3, which is a shame as its such a good game. All they needed to do was release the DLC slower.

This is just money hungry EA forcing out releases as they do, ruining playability and the rush to put out a game on the Next-Gen consoles. The timing sucks, but I understand to a point why they have done it. Just could have spread out the series and not taken a page from Call of Duty as that's a ruined franchise now...

Battlefield is a predominately online, multiplayer game which should have no stamped expiry date like its predecessor.

You're talking like it's coming out next month. You've got at least 7 months to wait for, during which time there's going to be no more DLC for BF3. Yes people will still play BF3 just like people still play BC2, but a lot of people will be getting bored of it and want a new game and so EA are going to want to cash in on those players.

As for it mainly being an online game, that's a fair point, but that doesn't mean it can't be improved in many ways. If it was just going to be the same old shit then it would be pointless, but if it's actually going to be a better game I don't see how that can be bad in any way (bigger maps, more players, more destruction, more weapons and customization, etc.).

Because 7 months is not a long time... I wonder where my bastard year has gone, never mind a few months.
BF3 has plenty more life in it and it still has a HUGE player base, which is still increasing rather than decreasing.

I'd be all for a 2142 remake with better physics, destruction & bigger maps etc. But this is a sequel to a game that does not need one yet.
Don't get me wrong I'll buy it I just hope this isnt the shape of things to come, and rather JUST an attempt to release a new title on the Next-Gen.

If they start churning out a new game under the original Battlefield series every year or 2 years I'll be so disappointed and will probably stop buying them. The shelf life of the battlefield series is one of the most attractive assets to me over the likes of COD, ARMA and all the other FPS games. The gameplay does not get old and the level system is not on par with the awards won at a disabled sports day, where everyone gets a trophy just for taking part.

Last I heard there plan was to alternate between the main Battlefield games and Bad Company on a yearly basis, which would be fine for me as the BC games haven't seemed quite right to me so I'd probably skip the next one.

That's what I had hoped for but obviously they've knocked that one on the head due to the Next-Gen's.

I think they're starting it from BF4, I've heard they're already working on BC3.

I would, BF3 on 360 was a flop compared to the pc.
Having 64 players on a server compared to 32 on an Xbox game is a monumental difference.
Not to mention the difference in graphics. A 360 couldnt do justice to BF4 IMO.

PC is the platform to get it on really with better graphics, Battlelog and dedicated servers, joysticks, etc.
But I think next gen should be almost on par (hopefully).

Also I think the next gen's will probably be out when it's released.
