OC do you happen to work for EA or something? No way any of the general public would back this as they don't benefit from it. |

You're telling me that you've never bought a second hand game? And if you ever did, you'd rather pay more money for it? |

you do realise its the CONSUMER who controls the market, why should we be told what to buy? and why should we have to buy new? |

Not really Slim, companies make us buy what they want us too, if this idea came out, a fair few people would go along with it, and more and more gradually would as itd just eliminate online play |

More like people would just stop buying EAs games, or only people who don't play online would. If this somehow goes through I'm not buying another EA game until they cut the bullshit. |

I doubt people would stop buying EA games. Everyone is always saying shit like that but nobody actually does it. It was exactly the same with the MW2 mappack. The whole PC community was crying that they wouldn't buy it because they used to get it for free, yet nearly everyone bought it after all... If EA brings out a good online game then 10 bucks won't stop many people. |

Hmmm I am not sure i agree with that completely. The way I see it is there are groups Group 1 - Fork out the high price for a new game they want as soon as it comes out knowing that when they have played it they can recover some of the cost by selling it on second hand. Group 2 - Those who will buy a game when it comes out but even when they stop playing it will keep it Group 3 - Those who buy the games they really really want new and pick the others up second hand for cheap Group 4 - Those who buy only second hand games as it is cheaper. There is others but this is enough for my example. Group 2 is completely uneffected by this change. Group 1 will be split into those who carry on regardless and take the hit (equal money) and those who buy the games in a couple months (less money) and those who don't buy every game they want(similar money). Group 3 gets split similar to group 1, there will be ones who buy the same games new and miss the second hand ones(equal money), the ones who buy the games after a couple of months so they are cheaper and get everyone they want and finally those who will buy every game new(maybe slight increase). Group 4 either stop playing games or fork up for new ones(possible increase). The point my example is this, every group that exists within the selling of games will be affected by this change and without some heavy market research I cannot see how EA or anyone else can predict how those segments will fracture and which way people will fall. Now some of it will work in their favour in that people will have to buy the games new, but they prices drop over time so while it could be bought new EA don't make any extra money. The other possibility to take into account is how many people of the gaming community will get alienised by this and stop gaming. Overall though I think that if this was to be brought in, EA and others would end up making more money from selling the games, however this money would be raised over a longer time period than currently. Personally I really hope they dont bring this in but only time will tell. |
