The fog rolled in off of the ocean. It had been so long since she had been here that she didn't recognize the place. The lighthouse. Her family used to come here on the weekend and spend time on the beach.

But she didn't know why she was here now. In the night air, everything seemed so ethereal.

It was an area of the town he had only seen from afar. Why would he ever visit some derelict lighthouse? It would be a good place to hangout with the others, sure, but there weren't any others. Because of his parents he was alone, and now he was lost, too.

"Where the hell am I?" He asked himself, a lot louder than asking himself needed to be. The fog seemed heavy, almost as if it actually had a weight to it that pressed upon him. It only confused him and pissed him off even more.

I was laying in my room listening to music to get that rat-faced Tanaka's theme music out of my head, and now I'm at this run-down lighthouse. He kicked at the ground, and then noticed that he could barely see his feet. This is a bunch of bull...

"Why the hell am I here?!" Kazuyama shouted.

There was an awful lot of shouting near her. Nalani looked and a boy was behind her. He was panicking. Nalani felt bad for him; being scared was a terrible feeling.

She took some steps closer to him. "I-it's the Koren lighthouse," she spoke up tentatively. "And, um, I think it's just a dream." Her hand touched her side. She couldn't feel her shunt in place, so this of course had to be a dream. It was odd, however, to be dreaming of someone being scared.

Kazuyama twitched slightly when he heard the girl's voice. He had learned long ago that flinching was for those who wanted to be bent over in a prison cell. They had somehow ended up back to back from each other, and so he had to turn around to see the source of the voice and did so slowly. He was wearing his street clothes when he remembered going to bed in nothing but shorts, and part of him was glad for it when he finally saw the source of the voice. When he got a better look, however, disappointment washed over his face.

Couldn't even dream about a hottie, could I? Had to be someone who could pass for my baby sister... wait, dream?

"I've never had a dream before that's told me I'm dreaming." He did not turn fully, and instead looked to the girl at a profile. "I can see that's the lighthouse, damnit, I'm just trying to figure out why I'm dreaming about it. I've never even been close enough to know how it looks!"

What's with that look? she thought, her eyelids lowering a touch. She turned away, clasping her hands behind her back. If it was a dream, then she could be mean right back... but... then she'd feel bad when she woke up.

"A lighthouse is a lighthouse, right? I don't remember this one being this creepy, so it's not that accurate," she said. Her head tilted down. "Better to think it a dream, otherwise it would be pretty weird." A joint dream was weird too, but better than thinking that they had been randomly transported to the lighthouse.

"Yeah, well, it's already weird." Kazu retorted, waving his arm dismissively and shaking his head. He looked to the eerie lighthouse nearby, and sighed. "And it's getting a little suspicious that you're the only other one here..."

He turned toward Nalani completely now, somehow reaching back and pulling a simple katana from nothing. His eyes seemed to darken slightly while he looked from the blade to the girl in front of him. Kazuyama's features started to sharpen and he took a step toward her. It almost appeared that the fog was beginning to... wrap around him like a blanket.

"...and I don't think I'm going to wake up until I slit that little throat of yours." Kazu's voice was several octaves lower than before, and actually sounded like multiple voices speaking at once. A thin, devious smirk curled upward on the left side of his face. "It's just a dream after all."

The atmosphere suddenly got oppressive and the boy's voice turned scary. She turned her head slowly. He was getting hard to see from the fog. It was as if he was attracting the fog to him.

"Um, I'd like to be waking up too right now."

It was definately time to wake up. She did not want to see how this played out.

WAKE UP! WAKE UP! WAKE UP!

She closed her eyes tightly, starting to feel scared.

For a dream, her fear just smells so... real!

When Nalani closed her eyes, Kazuyama brought the tip of his katana to her neck. He brushed the girl's hair back behind her shoulders with the flat of the blade to expose her neck further. The smirk on his face lengthened slightly.

"Let's see if a little pain can make you wake up!"

A quick flick of the wrist and the tip of the blade passed swiftly through a horizontal arc. It missed her neck by inches, and a few split ends were lost to the foggy abyss.

Nalani gasped as the sword whizzed by. The dream theory was gone now. She reeled backwards, away from him. In her panic, she didn't notice when the solid handle of a bow appeared in her. She too panic to really think about much. He wasn't acting human, and she aimed an arrow at him.

"S-stay back!"

Her hand was shaking too much and the arrow released, completely missing its mark.

The fog largely obscured Kazu now, but it was quite clear that he didn't even flinch as the arrow whizzed by. His eyes darkened even more and then glimmered a shade of yellow. The smirk widened and dropped into a grin.

"It's a little late to say that now..."

Kazuyama took two steps toward the girl, and strangely was upon her immediately. The fog continued to wrap about his features, and even seemed to wake after his arms as he extended the katana once more. It was swept toward Nalani's neck with more viciousness, and markedly more accuracy.
