Are you sure you read all the rules?: When he goes vampire-slaying, the headmaster always wears his best dress and make-up. He likes to feel pretty while hunting for monsters in the sewers.
IC Description: Name: Aurelia Elizabeth Kingsley Alias/Nickname: Rey - Lia - Ms. Kingsley Age: 27 (Appears 21-ish) Gender: Female Race and Level: Human Status: Day Class Staff - Guidance Counselor - Substitute Teacher
Appearance:
Beautiful golden tresses that run to her mid back. Bangs that sweep the top of her eyes. A small button nose. High cheek bones. Dazzling white teeth. Long slender limbs. A developed chest. A tiny waist. . .
These are the features that Aurelia knows she was blessed to be born with. The perfect mix of her parent’s, Aurelia has her mother’s golden hair mixed with her father’s hazel eyes. She stands at a height of 5’6” and weighs a total of 123 pounds.
Aurelia’s body is what a person would describe as an “Athletic” build. Her chest, while developed is small, and the muscles in her legs and arms strong. In high school, she used to love running track and playing tennis, but with her current living situation and lack of close friends, she has resorted to running on a treadmill at her local gym. The muscles themselves are slender and toned, but this was in no way just given to her, while she does eat whenever she wants, for all of her guilty pleasures, she works out harder to burn the extra calories. When people first heard of her aspiration to become a therapist of some sort, they wondered why she had chose a profession in the psychological field rather than the physical.
Her clothing choice is often described as odd for a school professional. At the age of 27, Aurelia is still in with popular fashion trends. She likes looking at fashion magazines and has some shipped to her from the United States. These were the magazines that taught her how to do her makeup, how to do her hair, and how to coordinate her clothing. She enjoys reading them every now and then. She’s the kind of girl who finds herself as comfortable in a corset and 5” heels as she does in a pair of sweats and a tank top. She knows how to wear business attire, but also knows how to doll herself up for a night on the town. Her clothing of choice is very versatile depending on the situation. At school she is often dressed in a pair of slacks and a formal top, accessorizing the outfit with an assortment of bracelets, earrings, a hat, and the right pair of shoes.
One last thing that a person should know about Aurelia’s appearance is that she has a fondness for getting tattoos. She only gets them on occasion and each one has a significant meaning to her and her life.
Finding home on Aurelia’s left shoulder blade is a tattoo of a koi fish swimming around a lotus flower. When she was younger, she used to think that anyone with a tattoo was scary, she didn’t understand why people would willing let their skin be inked, but after Molly’s death it just seemed like she needed something in memory of her best friend. The tattoo takes up the entirety of her shoulder and also creeps down a bit into her back. She thinks that it’s beautiful and the perfect way to not only remember Molly, but also represent her life after her friend’s death.
Complimenting this major piece of body work is a small chain of stars with an elaborate background design located behind her right ear. For every year of college that she completed, Aurelia had another star added to the chain a little bit bigger than the others. College was where Aurelia grew the most and some of the time she wasn’t even sure if she was going to graduate. Each star was received the day that she found out her results for finals, celebrating her achievements for that year.
Along the right side of Aurelia’s ribcage lies another piece of artwork. In memory of her lost child, Aurelia had the base of the piece drawn up less than two days after the funeral service. She knew that she would never be able to forget the baby she never got to raise. She knew that she would never stop wanting the chance at a happy life that she was cruelly denied. The piece itself starts it’s base on Aurelia’s hipbone and at first looks to be nothing but an tangle of vines and a couple flowers, but as the full picture comes into view, she tangle of vines weave themselves into a name. The name of her baby girl “Hailey.” At the very top of the piece is a single butterfly in flight. This piece is one that Aurelia designed by herself and is the most vibrant one her tattoo artist had ever done.
The last piece of artwork that Aurelia has on her body is located around Aurelia’s left wrist. It is a single old fashioned key connected to a thin chain that her and Nathan had done on her eighteenth birthday. When looking at the tattoo many would not be able to place it’s meaning, but what they don’t know is that just above Nathan’s heart is a keyhole. The two tattoos together were Nathan’s way of saying that Aurelia had the only key to his heart, but with her divorce she isn’t so sure if it means quite the same thing. Once or twice, Aurelia has contemplated having the tattoo removed, but she couldn’t do that. In her perspective, removing one tattoo gives all the others less of a meaning in a way. Like they aren’t a part of her or her life and are easily replaced.
The tattoos themselves are almost always hidden while on school property. She is a school “Professional” and needs to be a role-model for her students. The tattoo behind her ear and the tattoo on her wrist are almost always covered, either by hair or an article of clothing, and when not covered, she uses makeup to make sure that no one on campus knows of their existence. But of course, she isn’t always on campus and doesn’t always have them covered. When not working, Aurelia makes no effort to hide the ink on her body, they’re memories, achievements, and things that she is proud to say made her who she is today.
Personality:
Being born a natural extrovert is something that Aurelia has often taken for granted in life. As a child, she had never suffered from stage fright, had never had problems making friends, and had never had a problem adjusting when the situation had need for it. In her youth, these traits of hers often led people to describe her as bright, even going as far as to say that she was “Destined” for great things. Aurelia has never understood what people meant by these comments, but took them with a smile on her face just like everything else in her life. As sad as it may sound. . . Honesty doesn’t rank very high in her book. Generally speaking, she is an honest person. If your hair looks funny, she’ll tell you. If you ask for her opinion, she won’t spare your feelings. If she doesn’t like you, she’ll let you know. But if she can justify lying in order to save someone heartache or hurt, then she will lie without any guilty conscience.
Being a guidance counselor, Aurelia knows how to flip a conversation to a point where the person is the one answering questions about themselves. She doesn’t like it when people pry into her life and find that she has already gone through a divorce and has already tried to have a child. In her opinion, her private life is just that. . . Private. Having a strong personality like hers, she has no problem telling people to back off when she feels they are hovering too close.
She’s easily attracted to addictive substances and it is a slight fear in the back of her mind that they’ll one day be her downfall. During what she refers to as her “Party” years, she had gone through rehab for an addiction to ecstasy. The drug made her feel happy, and that was all she had cared about at the time. Being a full-time student, holding a part-time job, and needing a social life was leaving her with little to no energy and she needed her fix. Her usage had once become out of control and her friends at the time noticed the change in her and could easily tell that she was relying on the high more and more and not just for some recreational fun. They knew it was dangerous and her constant usage could lead to some serious side effects or even death. It was them that got her the help she needed before the school or her job could find out. Since her time in rehab, Aurelia has sworn off illegal substances, but there is nothing stopping her from feeling and loving the effect of alcohol in her system.
Only when she’s completely plastered does Aurelia truly open up to someone. Sadly, while she loves helping people solve their problems, she isn’t really capable of overcoming her own. She’s a polite drunk for the most part, but everyone has had their instances where they blacked out and did something they regret, whether that ending in a relationship burning to the ground, or a house completely destroyed, or even saying something they can’t take back. She’s had her share of “Fun” stories, but like it’s a part of her nature, she always finds a way to bounce back and bounce back quickly. When everything is said and done, Aurelia is a girl who likes to laugh and have fun. She wants to enjoy the life she was given and help others enjoy theirs as well. She knows how to take a joke and her use of sarcasm has always been unparalleled by her peers.
Other Information:
She enjoys drinking a bit more than a school professional should. . . Especially during a certain teacher's "Hell Week." As such, she always has a full cabinet of alcohol at her house. This cabinet includes, but is not limited to, Jagermeister, Pinnacle Whipped Vodka, Absolut Mandarin, Barcardi Lite, Malibu Rum, and Jose Cuervo Tequila. Call her an alcoholic and she'll tell you that she doesn't have a problem.
When she drinks, she doesn't drink for the taste so much as the feeling. Her poison? Jagermeister and RedBull (Jager-Bomb).
She is a decent dancer/singer and is a patron of the town's only karaoke bar "Impulse." A person can usually find her there every other Wenesday 'til about 03:00. She has shown up to work hungover once or twice, but each time has been able to play it off as being "Sick."
At the beginning of each new semester, she likes to go around the school pretending as though she is a student. She looks young enough to be one and many of the teachers have learned to go along with her little masquerade. She doesn't do this to spy on the class, but more so to get a feel for the underclassmen coming into the school. What better way to get to know the students than to actually take a walk in their shoes?
She likes cooking, though she is extremely horrible at it. She once burned eggs while trying to boil them. She had put them on the stove and forgot about them. All the water evaporated and next thing she knew, the smoke alarm was going off.
She likes writing music. As a child she had her hand in every class that would give her a creative edge. If a person were to walk into her apartment, they would see records and music notes decorating her walls and a grand piano where a dining room table should be.
Her favorite food is a sandwhich made on a croissant with avacado, lettuce, tomato, turkey, and bacon.
She is an aethiest. Her reasoning? She would rather be a good person by her own definition, then be a good person because she's scared that she's going to be damned for all eternity. That being said, she likes to study and talk about Religion with people who are religious. She has attended many different churches and holds many of their values, but doesn't believe in the all powerful one.
When something traumatic happens to her, her mind shuts down and she returns to that storage closet from High School.
She occasionally has trouble sleeping, and has a prescription for sleep medication. The bottle of medication is always at her apartment, but she keeps one dose locked in her car in case she stays late at the school and ends up crashing in the Staff Dorms. She also keeps an overnight bag in the trunk of her car for such occasions.
IC Background: Biography:
Growing up as an only child isn’t something that anyone would ever want, but that is the life that Aurelia was born into. Her parents Robert and Charlene were two talented artists. Robert was an amazing pianist that often performed for charities for kids with disabilities or cancer research. Charlene was an amazing architect who was born in England, but came to America to study at Cornell. She is one of the architects behind many famous buildings, but the her pride and glory is the Beijing South Station. The two met in New York while attending the Nutcracker and everything fell into place from their. They married and moved to Seattle for Robert’s job. He had accepted a teaching position at Cornish College of the Arts and Charlene was more than happy to follow. Seattle was a beautiful city in their eyes, but that all changed when Charlene became pregnant with their baby girl.
A few months after her birth, Aurelia’s parents decided that the city wasn’t the best place to raise their little girl. It was crowded, dangerous, and in their opinion had way too many influences that they couldn’t control. At the time, Seattle was finally making it on the map as the “Grunge” Capitol of the world and they feared that the culture would have a negative effect on Aurelia’s upbringing. In August of the year, Charlene and Robert moved their little family back to Littleton, Colorado where Robert’s family lived. Being in such a close knit community, they thought they were living the American dream. They had a house with a yard, a little girl who was their pride and joy, and were happy.
Living in Colorado, Aurelia easily flourished into a young beauty amongst her peers. She was signed up for every class her parents could think of which included lessons in ballet, piano, violin, and singing. Her parents were born into money and could afford to give their daughter everything she ever wanted. Her life, while charmed in every which way, was pretty uneventful until her Sophomore year in High School. Littleton, as small as it was, had received a transfer student. A boy by the name of Nathan, and as the Sophomore ASB representative Aurelia was the lucky one that got to show him around. At first, Nathan seemed like a soft-spoken, really shy guy who would easily fall off the planet if not prodded. It had annoyed Aurelia at first, but she soon began to like him and they became friends. They had three of the same classes and a few common interests. By that summer, they had officially become a couple and she couldn’t be happier.
The year Aurelia turned 16 is a year she would never forget. She had just started her Junior year in High School and was having the time of her life. Her boyfriend Nathan was exactly the man her parents wanted for her. Her best friend Molly was always by her side. In her mind, nothing could go wrong. Come Senior Year, she would start applying for college and then graduate school. Her future was grand and she was happy. April of 1999, the most unthinkable thing happened. Two of her classmates, two people she had barely known, set hell loose upon the school. Gunshots were heard, homemade bombs were exploding, and people were being killed. Crawling into the back corner of the storage closet in her NJROTC classroom, Aurelia hid there for hours. The classroom itself was adjacent to the library which held the nearest exit. She contemplated trying to run, but she couldn’t muster up enough courage to risk moving. Hearing the gunshots go off not too far away, she stayed in the storage closet, the lights off, no connection to the outside world, barely breathing. She hid there until the police found her hours later. The shooting, while it didn’t hurt her physically could not have made deeper scars on her mind. 13 were dead and among them was her best friend.
The months that followed, were hard on Aurelia. She started attending weekly therapy sessions, but like many of her classmates, couldn’t shake the incident from her head. All she wanted was to talk to her best friend. The girl who had befriended her when she was the new kid in town. The girl she had shared her 164 pack of crayons with. The girl who would’ve been her Maid of Honor at her wedding. She wanted her friend back, and couldn’t help but partially blame herself for what had happened at her school. If she had reached out to her fellow classmates, if she had been a nicer person, then maybe this wouldn’t have happened. These thoughts still plague her to this day, but she had learned how to move on with her life. Her best friend was gone and she couldn’t bring her back, but what she could do was live the life she still had. Molly wouldn’t have wanted her to waist her life by mourning the death of a friend.
Six months after the shooting, Nathan proposed on their Second Anniversary. He had originally been planning on waiting until they had graduated, but the shooting had made him realize that time wasn’t something he should take for granted. He knew he wanted a future with Aurelia, and he needed to secure her hand in marriage. He loved her and wanted to be with her forever. The proposal came as a shock to Aurelia, but the two of them were a known couple. They had been the Junior Prom King and Queen and were voted “Most Likely to Succeed” by their peers. Things were expected of them so by December of her Senior Year in High School, Aurelia was married on a snowy Colorado night with over 1500 people in attendance. The ceremony was beautiful and the two of them honeymooned throughout Europe during their Winter Break.
When the two of them Graduated from High School, they both moved to Los Angeles to attend UCLA. Aurelia was a dual-major in Psychology and Child Development with a minor in Latin. Being a witness to a school shooting, she knew that she never wanted anything like that to happen again. During college, both Nathan and Aurelia began to experience life outside the small town they grew up in.
They loved each other. They wanted to be together. They could feel themselves growing apart.
For awhile they both had contemplated a divorce. They had gotten married too young, they had grown apart, they weren‘t two pieces of a whole. An on-again off-again was what their relationship was looking like and during one of the on-again moments, Aurelia became pregnant with his baby. At first it was a shock for both of them, but a baby was exactly what they needed in order to be together.
The pregnancy brought the couple closer together than ever before. Nathan wanted nothing more than to start his own family, school was just something that he needed to do in order to get there. Aurelia, like most expecting mothers, glowed with the idea that she would have a child of her own. Their apartment that they had been staying in for college had a spare bedroom and Nathan wasted no time in converting it into a Nursery. The two of them felt as though their relationship was renewed, and they found themselves shopping for baby things whenever they had a spare moment from school work and the like. At 32 weeks, Aurelia went in for one of her last ultrasound appointments and like a thin sheet of glass her happiness shattered. The doctor couldn’t find the baby’s heartbeat and sent Aurelia into emergency labor. A still birth is what the happy couple was greeted with and to make matters worse, the doctor’s couldn’t find any reason for the death.
The nursery that they had created for their little “Princess” was now nothing but a tomb of lost hopes. Trying for another child became one of their priorities, but it never came. A month after College Graduation, the couple went through a quiet divorce. They had been through too much together. Their fights were escalating to a point of tears each time they happened and were becoming more and more frequent. The relationship they were having was unhealthy for both of them and they couldn’t take it any longer. She could see that she was hurting him, and he could tell that he was holding her back. They would be separating from each other in a year when Aurelia transferred to Seattle to study for her Master’s and Nathan moved to New York to work as a Sous-Chef for a restaurant. They had different dreams and needed to set each other free.
Four years. That was how long her marriage had lasted. Four years that she would never forget.
Immediately after the divorce, Aurelia moved to Seattle to earn her Master’s degree in Psychology at the University of Washington. Even through the trials of her life, she was able to graduate with honors from UCLA. The program at the UW wasn’t as challenging as she thought it was going to be and she was able to graduate at the top of her class. The UW was a new experience for her all together. It was a new experience and she found herself actually living life like a 22 year old should instead of trying to raise a family. She made a few new friends. She went to concerts. She went to parties. And tried her hand in a few different drugs. Her life experiences grew by milestones during her time in Seattle and she hasn’t regretted it. Upon obtaining her Master’s degree and going through her year of internship, Aurelia started having a want to see the world. To experience what it had to offer her. Hearing of her new ambition, a mentor of hers told her of a school in Japan that was in need of a Guidance Counselor. With no hesitation, she sent out her resume and a few months later received a compelling job offer.
Japan, while not exactly her dream destination held the school that would produce some of tomorrow’s leaders. Cross Academy.
Family and Other Important People:
Nathan Clizbe: Nathan was once the man of Aurelia's dreams. In her eyes, he did everything the right way, he would make her parent's happy, and his family loved her. Once a married couple, this man holds a very special place in Aurelia's heart that she doesn't like to acknowledge. She is still friends with Nathan, but has put distance between them since the divorce. They had both acknowledged that they had grown apart. People who were meant to be together were meant to grow together, to work through their problems together, but they had grown up expecting to handle things on their own. They were young and stupid and while they both don¡'t have any "hard" feelings about the split, they only see each other on an occasional basis.
Molly Malavolti: Before her untimely death, Molly had been Aurelia's best friend since preschool. They had met over Aurelia's 164 pack of Crayola Crayons and from that moment on were practically unseparable. They shared many interests, had the same sense of humor, and loved each other as though they were sisters. Molly would've been Aurelia's Maid of Honor and also the Godmother of her children. Aurelia would've been the same for Molly. Her death hit Aurelia hard and she hasn't really gotten over it yet. Whenever Aurelia thinks she might be forgetting her best friend, she finds a reason to return home to Colorado for a few days. She doesn't know why, but Littleton has a way of always making her feel better.
Items of Note:
Audi TT: A black matte 2002 Audi TT is Aurelia's car of choice. It's fast and small and in the time she has owned it, hasn't caused her any major problems.
Memory Box: A box of items that her parents had saved for her from when she was a baby. After her wedding to Nathan, Aurelia added her saphire hairpins that she had worn in her hair during the ceremony. She hopes that someday she can clip them into her own daughter's hair at her wedding.
Wedding Ring: Aurelia still has both her Engagement Ring and her Wedding Band from her marriage to Nathan. It's kept inside her memory box along with all of her wonderful memories of her first love. While her and Nathan didn't last forever like they had originally planned for, she still has a special place in her heart for him.
Character Goals:
Despite how she talks about her job to her friends and colleagues, Aurelia actually enjoys her job. She would love nothing more than to be able to help her "students" in some way or another. Whether that is by being a trusted confidant, a friend, or a role model doesn't matter to her. She would just like to know that she made a positive impact on someone's life.
RP Sample:
The world was spinning. Every color in their room becoming more vibrant by the second. Blinking a few times, she realized she couldn’t tell which way was up and which way was down, but it would straighten itself out once she moved; that’s how these things always worked. Taking a step forward, she could feel gravity pulling her to the ground and instinctively moved her weight backward. She couldn’t fall, not face first, so instead she fell to her knees a hand going up to her forehead as she blinked a few times and focused on breathing.
“Rey? Rey!” She could hear panic in his voice, hear every footstep as he ran from the kitchen, hear every intake of breath as he knelt down beside her. Their apartment, while on the smaller side, didn’t have too many things so it appeared spacious and she was almost always within his view. He hadn’t always been this protective about her, but ever since their Junior year he had developed a need to see that she was always okay. To make matters worse, as she got closer and closer to her delivery date, he seemed to become even more paranoid that something bad was going to happen. “I’m fine Nathan. Just stood up too quickly.” Her voice came out sounding a bit more annoyed than she had wanted it to, but it had gotten him to breathe a bit easier so she deemed it acceptable.
One hand held her stomach as the other patted her head a few times in a vain hope to relieve the dizziness. She had been warned that things like this might happen as she got closer to her delivery date. It was completely normal, or at least that’s what she had been telling herself, so what was there to be afraid of? Nothing. Taking a couple deep breaths, she looked up at her husband with a small smile on her face. She could practically see the tension leave his features as she allowed him to pull her into his arms as he leaned against their sofa. Sitting there in her arms, she let her head rest on his shoulder, staring down at their bare feet ahead of them.
“I hope she isn’t cursed with having my fingerlike toes.” Hearing her thoughts come out of his mouth, she couldn’t help but smile. “I love toes. I mean, I love your toes. They have character.” She said as she watched him wiggle them in front of her. Nathan’s toes, looked more like fingers than toes, but they didn’t look bad. Nothing on Nathan ever looked bad in her eyes. “I think we both would prefer if she came out in your spitting image. I actually wouldn’t mind if she was exactly like you.” She heard the words come from his lips and couldn’t help but laugh. Daughters never grew up to be like the women that gave them life. Looking up at him, she couldn’t help but laugh a bit harder at the confused expression on his face, her headache almost completely removed from her mind.
