Sam I am.

This past week, I picked up Warhammer 40K: Space Marine through Steam for about $7.50. This was a bundle that also included all of the DLC, which I'm not sure I've gotten to yet. It may not be on the same plateau that Platinum Games rests comfortably on, but holy fucking balls, this game tries its hardest and clings to that ledge for dear life. The combat, though rather simple (consisting of guns and a few melee weapons) consists mostly of keeping your distance and occasionally breaking out the chainsword or lightning hammer to deliver brutal blows and ridiculous executions. The constant onslaught of orks is interesting and keeps you on your toes. There's always some sort of chaotic bullshit going on around you, which is always a good thing. This game is REALLY FUCKING GOOD and you'll find yourself inventing your own battle cry as you keep going. Mine is "EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING IS FUN" repeated nonstop with increasing fervor. You won't believe how unbelievably satisfying it is to pop the heads off of orcs using your sweet-ass pistol or machine gun. One of the ads states that "cover is for the weak," and they're fucking right. Play this game somehow. There's other vidya I picked up through the Christmas sales and that I've played over the years. I'll dwell on them later, but for now, what games have you had similar experiences with? By that, I mean "what vidya have you played that's usually overlooked?" |
