I think everyone has a few games that they like that not many other people know about, or maybe the game just didn't receive the attention it deserved. It's a shame that these games tend to be ignored, because some of them really shine and stand out in the presence of better-known games. One of the games I've noticed that was tragically overlooked was Super Columbine Massacre RPG. I know the title will scare away most people, but if you look past the subject matter, it's actually a decently-made RPG created with the RPGMaker software. They even digitized a few songs by artists that were supposedly linked with the shooting, like Marilyn Manson and Radiohead. They even included some interesting story elements and overall produced something solid. There was actually a bunch of controversy surrounding it regarding an awards festival for indie developers. It was pulled from the show given its subject matter, and tons of other people pulled their own submissions in support of the game. Another one I'd like to address is Beat Hazard. If you remember the game Audiosurf, Beat Hazard takes on a similar concept in that it allows you to use your own downloaded music for gameplay. However, the way the games handle are completely different. Audiosurf was really just picking up colored blocks for points, while Beat Hazard is a space shooter similar to Asteroids. The beat of the music affects how powerful your laser is; faster tempos and more intense song sections make for a more powerful weapon, while slower-paced sections with little energy leave you cowering in fear with a shitty weapon. I will say for a fact that Beat Hazard hates epileptics. If you're prone to seizures, this game will kill you. I'm not joking. The flashing and strobe effects going on will just fucking murder your ass. Aside from that, it's actually really cool, and it's interesting to experiment with different tracks and see the results. Controls are just like the ones from Geometry Wars. Your input? |

I have to find Beat Hazard...music games are my opium. I had a chance to see the Columbine RPG when it came out, they did some damn good work on that. Just too soon for some people I guess...don't see all of them bitching a storm about snipers in the Middle East though. |

Fucking pansies, all of them. It's so awesome and it's a goddamned FICTITIOUS portrayal of a real-world event meant to satirize the media's response to the killings. They're so quick to pin the blame on games and music, whatever happens to be a convenient scapegoat at the time. Fascists. |

I know the feeling, it happened when I wanted to get tales of vesperia for the xbox, only f'ing game you can get in the dammed console with the option to hold a multiplayer of 4 people without going online. The storyline is great and it is good looking. Now it got the attention since it is being re released for ps3. Another gem that I wish I knew better is riviera for the psp. Anyways I think that here in the states most of the JRPG's are sort of ignored. |

Just picked up two indie games on steam that are really quite good. The first is Costume Quest by Double Fine , better known as the people who made Psychonauts. It's an RPG where you play as a kid who has to rescue their sibling, fun part is that it's Halloween and you and your party gets their powers from the costumes they wear, different costumes bestow different powers and make you transform into an Awesome giant sized version of your costume. Second is "Inside a Star Filled Sky" think a scrolling 2D shooter + Inception, you're a little pixel sprite character and when you exit a level you find out that you've been inside a larger sprite that you now take control of and so on and so forth, so as it turns out all your sprites were inside other sprites cause we heard you liek sprites dawg. You also get upgrades that carry from sprite to sprite. Edited by Xale, Nov 30 2011, 01:46 PM.
