Tharien stared in shock at the guard, his green eyes flashing as he processed just what this would mean. "How did a host of humans large enough to be of concern to the High Magister manage to leave their lands?" he asked, his tone flinty yet shocked, "and more importantly, what can we do to fix this? We may not be as strong as others, but we aren't weaklings either" The small wizard stood up and closed his spellbook, putting the tome away with the rest of his gear, ready to leave at a moment's notice. Humans making their way to Majharn...it was unthinkable. |

"That is what Corellon has gone to find out. If you want to help you can stand guard with the others at Majharn, you'll find our city eerily empty but there's a portal to Majharn which you can't miss." Despite what the guard was saying he still had a fearful aura about him which Aerendis was still trying to figure out but overall remained quiet. "Once you go in there's no running, it's an island after all." |

Tharien stared at the guard, before flaring his aura angrily, the news already wearing his temper thin, and the fact that the guard was obviously fearful of something annoyed him further. "What are you so scared about?" he snapped harshly, glowering at the guard as crossed his arms over his chest. He wasn't sure if he was stronger than they, but they were acting cowardly so maybe he could shock the information out of them. |

"It's you two I'm afraid of, it was my choice whether or not to tell you. So I have and if you're going to go you'd best go now. Time is wasting." Aerendis casually meandered over to the other paladin who was shaking and poked at his armor for a bit before growling, grabbing the other elf's head so to fix his gaze. "Are you afraid? of Corellon? of dying? you're pathetic. I thought you guys knew what you were doing but who better than to send in this coward." Shoving the other aside with indignation Aerendis grabbed what would be important and beckoned Tharien to follow him. |

Tharien gave the guard a look of utter contempt and with a wave of his hand had him suspended upside down, a thinck hemp rope materialising around the shaking Eladrin's legs to dangle him from the roof. "Pathetic, really" the wizard spat, gathering his things and following Aerendis, his stride measured and calm as he slammed the door behind him. He began casually striding out of the tower, a little sad that it was time to leave, but aware that all things must come to an end. "I assume you wish to go to Majharn" it was a question disguised as a statement, if Aerendis didn't wish to go, Tharien wasn't going to force it, even as he looked around for the portal. |

"Well all the humans we've met so far have been less than amusing." He growled out heading towards a shimmering oval nearby depicting their destination on the other side, stepping through it made him dizzy as his being crossed all that distance instantly. From where he crouch he could already hear the sounds of battle as well as a faint haunting song lingering on the edge of the noise. A sword from the fray embedded itself into the ground near the paladin causing him to rise to his feet quickly. Already homes and buildings were burning or destroyed the sky darkening and blood soaking the ground. It seemed that the guard had waited longer than thought before he told them about what was going on. Spells whirred around some passing the paladin, spinning in response he laid eyes on a human clumsily charging him who was soon laid into with his hammer with a bone crushing metal on metal bang. |

Tharien followed Aerendis, stepping through the portal with a feigned ease, only determination stopping him from ending up on the floor. The wizard looked around the burning city, his jaw tightening in anger. How dare humans enter their realm and attack their city. The small Eladrin was beginning to dislike the entire race more and more with every example of it he was shown. Walking up beside Aerendis, Tharien's gaze swept the street 'Which way do you think we should go?" |

"I think we ought to find out where they're coming from. This is an island with no bridges and I see no ships in the immediate vicinity." Having had to raise his voice at one point as a cry of battle nearly overtook his words he looked around himself nervously, in a city like Majharn the enemy could be anywhere and come from anywhere. Beckoning his companion to follow him he headed up a trail hoping to overlook the area or at least fight downhill. A few clumsy attacks were made on him along the way by human militia which he fought off with his hammer not really caring to make sure they were dead at the moment. Strangely enough this kind of situation felt natural for him as if he knew what he was doing, his constant vigilance drowning out the sounds of battle from his mind. |

"Alright, let's go then" Tharien responded, his face calm and composed. This was the sort of situation he was bred for, so it was with some apprehension that he followed the Paladin, wondering if his training had prepared him properly for it, or if he would fail and prove worthless. A fee straggling humans were cut down by arcane missiles as he spotted them along the path, the wizard ensuring that these humans wouldn't be able to do any more damage to Majharn. He would make sure that they paid. |

As they reached the upper levels Aerendis stepped out onto a building witnessing the fighting below. There wasn't very much of it at their position but the smoke from fires was one reason, the city glowed an eerie red and the sounds of battle were loud. The skies thundered with darkening clouds and the ocean surrounding Majharn seemed to flow furiously. Strangely there were no boats, no humans coming ashore and the ones they met heading uphill were traveling downhill. Turning for just a moment he spotted a flash through the pillars of black smoke, a flash coming from the cave where Tharien and himself had completed a delve. Humans poured forth from a portal which was the same portal they had fixed themselves in exchange for a storm diamond. "Tharien... from there." He gestured weakly at the portal with his hammer seeming to falter trying to figure out the significance of the portal and why it bothered him so much. Aerendis was too bothered to parry an oncoming blow from a soldier bull rushing him and his sword was aiming for flesh. |

Tharien glanced in the direction that Aerendis had gestured, but turned away swiftly, bile rising in his throat at the thought that they could be the reason this incursion was possible, the reason that Majharn burned. He wasn't going to stand idly by and let it happen however, the humans would all pay, he would make sure of it personally. It was time to show them the wrath of the son of Shadowfell. The small wizard fey stepped in front of the human that charged towards the distracted paladin, a muttered word trying to steal the human's weapon with prestidigitation, however if that failed he would bring his staff up in defence, a gleaming purple shield of energy surrounding the two eladrin. If he got the sword from the human, he would promptly try and embed it in its throat, trying to kill the creature that dared try and harm what was his. |

When the wizard appeared at his side and dispatched the attacking human Aerendis was brought back to his senses and his mind started to work properly again. He couldn't however take his eyes off of that portal. Taking his weapon with both hands he charged out of Tharien's protection up the winding path they'd taken once before relentlessly mowing down soldiers while making his way to the top. With his clothed hand he retrieved the star of Corellon pointing it at the portal, several humans poured forth stopping in their tracks and some even running back. The star shone brightly and a beam of channeled light came from it decimating the small cove and ruining the portal creating a flat leveled area. Of course such a large display of light would draw attention, a voice cried out. "Sappers! get the sappers going!" The activity of the humans changed with this command making them scatter scurrying around the lower levels of Majharn. |

Tharien followed closely behind Aerendis, his magic dispatching any humans that he could see, taking them out at range before they could even get close. He paid careful attention for archers and made sure to kill them first. Watching the paladin destroy the portal, Tharien's attention turned as a voice called out, sappers...his jaw tightened. They were determined to cause as much damage as they could, weren't they, disgusting creatures. "Quickly, I doubt there's much time" he called out to his companion, using fey step to speed his descent into the lower levels of Majharn, the wizard searching for these sappers so he could put an end to them before they could do more damage. |

"Time for what? what's a sapper?" Of course whatever was coming didn't leave room for questions so he followed Tharien's descent looking for anything out of place. Something he could call a 'sapper' the humans were of course swarming to specific strategic locations. Upon following one swarm he saw a large golem type of construct carrying around barrels on it's back which brought back memories of the far larger construct that he had fought before. He began striking at the soldiers who had swarmed around this golem like a bastion, no doubt the other sapper squads were doing the same thing. Then it suddenly set itself aflame and one word crossed the paladin's mind which was 'run'. Turning the other way he barely managed ten feet of space before the deafening earth shattering explosions went off all over the city blanketing it in white light. With no way to properly defend himself the wave of force slammed him into the ground burying him. When things were finally silent he sprung out of the dust shaking himself off and kicking the loose stones away. The fires were no more and neither was Majharn as rain began to pour and thunder strike, few elves remained standing and the majority of the remaining forces now stood around a large crater. "Tharien?" |

Tharien brought his wrath down on the human soldiers, making his spells as painful as he could as he rushed towards the barrel carrying golem, a mask of rage set upon his face. Unfortunately, he wasn't fast enough, and the golem ignited. The second the flame flickered into existence he stopped, knowing that there was nothing he could do now, and running wouldn't help him. Besides, it was at least partially his fault that this had happened. He closed his eyes in resignation as Majharn exploded around him. The shockwave of the explosion threw him backwards, his robes catching alight as he was flung from the outermost edge of the fireball. He felt a piece of stone whizz across his cheek, cutting deeply into the flesh and skimming off his cheekbone, luckily avoiding his eye. He bearely felt the weight of dust and stone bury him, extinguishing the fire before it could burn his flesh, or the blood which had slowed to a trickle with the ash clinging to his life giving fluid, clogging it. His ears rang and there was an acrid taste in his mouth, but he did not move. The only part of him visible was a small hand, poking out of a pile of ash, fingers flexing weakly. He wasn't sure where his staff was either, and that sent a pang of regret through his otherwise inactive mind. |

The sounds of battle were now replaced with the sounds of wailing and mourning as proud warriors emotionally imploded at what had just happened. Aerendis clutched at his chest as his muscles tightened up half regretting having come to Majharn. Tharien was nowhere to be seen and he mindlessly hopelessly staggered towards the gathering at the biggest crater. Subconsciously along the way he dug out anyone he could see being one of the only remaining with the strength to do so. Strangely a haunting melody seemed to wash over the ruins carrying the sounds of a flute on the wind. Looking for the source of the sounds he soon spotted what looked like a woman standing high above them with the demeanor of a devil. His first thought was that she due to her appearance was coming to end their days, as eyes found her she put away her flute spreading her arms. An Untheric hymn spilled from her lips sending a gentle wave of restorative magic from her core outward. Aerendis having no more strength left in him to stand fell to his knees and cried. |

A sound broke through the haze in Tharien's mind, the sound of music. With half hearted movements the wizard began clawing at the ash and stone that covered him, panic filling his mind instinctively as he realised he couldn't breathe anymore. Eventually he pulled himself out of the ground. Covered from head to toe in ash, the remenants of his robe falling off him, and his face covered in blood, the wizard was a frightful sight. Looking around at the desolation, he couldn't help but scream in rage, his voice echoing across the crater, mingling with the song that spread across the ruins of Majharn, somehow harmonising with the words coming from the tiefling woman that was singing, though Tharien had yet to notice her. Falling to his knees in shock, his green eyes were hard as steel, the only tears were the sluggish dribble of blood still leaking from the deep gash beneath his left eye. Despite the pain that came as he moved his jaw, and the fresh blood that welled forth, Tharien began to sing, his clear voice rising through the air, the sheer heartbreak in his voice easy to hear. It was an ancient song, of loss, of mourning, of great sorrow, and for the small wizard, it was the only way he could think to express the emotions he felt when he saw the crater of Majharn |

Though the land was steeped in healing magics meant to ensure those still clinging to life would remain alive it was not enough to stave off the mourning and realization of what had just happened. The Tiefling woman slowly descended from her position towards the crater never letting her voice falter despite the tears that ran down her face and the blood leaking from her wounds. As Tharien cried out so too did the other elves with Aerendis joining in the pained noise of their people then it went silent again save for the Untheric hymn harmonizing with the Eladrin song. Slowly everyone started to join in with the song some singing their own verses but never clashing with the woman's and Tharien's ballad. If one listened closely they would also hear the ailing of Shadar-Kai tongue. Aerendis himself was shaking and singing the words as if unable to hold them back from pouring out into the wind. His fists clenched gathering ash from the ground. |

Tharien wandered through the wasteland that was once Majharn, his magic skimming along the ground as he searched out those buried beneath the surface, with use of his mage hands he quickly uncovered any that he found, including a young boy, not yet the size of a five year old human. Picking up the stunned and quiet child and settling him on his hip, the young wizard kept wandering through the ash and broken marble, his voice never ceasing. After a little while he heard a familiar voice, tinged with sorrow. His hair flowing loosely around his back, having become undone in the blast, he moved towards his paladin, seeing the larger male kneeling in the ash, covered but seemingly unhurt. The child clutching his torn tunic, Tharien moved towards Aerendis quickly, kneeling down in front of the other male, and after resting th child comfortably around his torso, he wrapped his arms around the trembling eladrin, embracing him tightly, while ensurng the young one between them was not squashed. His song continued even as he clung to the larger male, the dried blood on his face cracking slightly with the movements, fresh blood oozing out of the wound. His head rested on the other's right shoulder, trying to give and take comfort in the fact that the only person he truly knew in this realm was still alive. |

He'd have looked up to see who was approaching him if he had the strength to but somehow he knew exactly who it was, his arms came up to meet Tharien's gently holding the wizard. The paladin's hair hiding his face. Their song mixed delicately and perfectly, he glanced at Tharien's bloodied form bringing a hand up to the wizard's face removing the blood and sealing the wound with the pale purple aura surrounding it. Lightning flashed somberly and thunder followed a gust conjured by the Tiefling woman lifting the debris off of bodies she could sense much like Tharien had done. She surveyed the area and the damage speaking in Untheric unable to maintain her song further she snarled and cursed throwing a multicolor magic missile at a nearby chunk of debris stopping it just short of connecting. Ea's infernal Tiefling rage was flaring now but she was unable to harm Majharn, even if it were just ruins it was still Majharn. Loudly she screamed wishing it was just an infernal nightmare in her tongue wildly firing her missiles into the air until two Shadar-kai grabbed her arms speaking to her softly. |

Tharien pulled back, dead green eyes staring at Aerendis, with his wound healed it was easy to see, the long line going from the lower lid of his left eye to the edge of his jaw, like a tear track, the new scab an angry red, and likely to break open if he talked too much. With the child between them falling into an exhausted sleep, Tharien moved closer to the Paladin, almost straddling him as his hands searched over Aerendis for any wounds that might be there. Slowly his song drew to a close, and though his face was dry but for the glittering blood, sorrow was clearly etched into his features. Covered in ash, and blood, and scorched cloth, the wizard reached up and rested a hand on Aerendis' cheek, before leaning forward to press his lips hesitantly against the other male's. He probably wouldn't have dared do this at any other time, but the shock of the destruction meant he was more careless, and felt that even if he was rejected it wouldn't matter |

It was a soothing feeling to be held and touched which was something Aerendis hadn't had the luxury of before. Their song came to a pleasing close and without realizing fully what was happening he had kissed Tharien. Though it was only a peck and he wished it had lasted longer it did help greatly in calming him down. Glancing around he saw many other mourning elves and the Tiefling woman crumpling into herself, he'd never seen one before and didn't know what it was. Resting softly against Tharien his lips parted and he spoke softly. "Are we still alive?" |

Tharien felt a small thrill run down his spine when he was not rejected, in fact, his gesture was reciprocated by the larger Eladrin. Pressing their lips together lightly once more to savour the strength and sense of calm such an action gave him, he pulled back, his green gave looking into the other's eyes, a deep breath escaping from his nose as he looked around at the devestation. "If we were dead it wouldn't hurt so much" he said finally, feeling that his knowledge of such things would go unnoticed at this time. Shifting the child in his lap slightl, the wizard slumped on the paladin, his forehead resting on Aerendis' shoulder emotional exhaustion. A casual hand waved over his body followed by a slight hiss of pain, and Tharien relaxed once more. Though it wasn't obvious, he had altered his tattoos so that now the arcane lines etched into his hidden body were coloured the darkest black, a sign of his sorrow. |

Slowly the songs came to a close leaving behind only the harsh reality of what had just happened. Aerendis looked up while holding the wizard close to himself, only the sound of rain and thunder remained. Looking towards the Tiefling he saw two others who were somewhat out of the picture a memory faintly plucking at his consciousness. "There are strange creatures about." His eyes hardened with mistrust at the thought of anything but a Fey creature residing in the Fey. After all it had resulted in the large burned crater they all sat around at the moment. The Tiefling was studying Aerendis' hardened gaze with her own fiery one speaking hushed to the Shadar-kai who stood at her sides. "It's the same as my dream but I'm quite sure it's real now since I haven't woken myself screaming yet." |

Tharien reached out and forcefully turned Aerendis' attention back to him, so that the Paladin had nowhere to look but the wizard's face, "Don't act to hastily, she's clearly not a human, and she still lives, so I doubt she is their ally" he couldn't help but wonder of the irony of him trying to calm down his companion, when he was the one of fiery temprement who usually exploded in anger. But he was tired, from the loss of blood mostly, and there was a sleeping child pressed against him, which made him far less likely to instigate a fight, unless of course the child was threatened. And with the way the tiefling was acting, the destruction of Majharn had hurt her as well. Resting his heavy head on the other male's shoulder, the small wizard let out a sigh, the throbbing in his cheek letting him know he was still alive. He was sure later he would be angry, or feel shame, but right now, he was just numb. |

"You're right Tharien..." His hand stroked the wizard's cheek softly his nose taking in the smell of the rain mixed with that burning ashen breeze. It didn't appear that any of the buildings were left in any sort of usable shape and he huffed with exhaustion feeling hungry for the first time or what he associated with being hungry. "There's nowhere left to take shelter on the island is there?" |

Tharien adjusted the sleeping child so that Aerendis was holding him carefully, and once he was sure the Paladin had a good grip on the boy, he stood up, looking around. It seemed that already people had begun to realise the same thing as Aerendis had, and were milling around, trying to figure out what to do. Tharien strolled away from his Paladin and began chanting lowly, trying not to move his mouth too much so as not to open the wound on his cheek. Lines of magical letters streamed away from the small wizard, glowing purple as they extended outwards like the spokes of a wheel from him at the centre, joined together by an outer line forming the edge of the circle. Glowing structures shot out of the ground within the circle of glowing symbols, the structures solidifying into sturdy tents before everyone's eyes, small fires dotting the large camp that he was creating, and long trellis tables of food spread throughout the tents. With a sigh he finished the ritual, the lines receding back to him. Stumbling back over to Aerendis, he took the child up from the Paladin and, stopping just before the nearest tent, chanted once more, creating an eye of alarm in front of the tent, connected to himself and his Paladin. "Eat something, then come and join me, I'm too tired to do anything else" he said quietly as he slipped into the tent, which changed to a deep purple colour as he did. Laying down on the large bed within the tent, Tharien curled up, the young eladrin nestled into the indent of his body as he held the boy close. |

Taking the child he looked at it tentatively knowing the young was fragile but somehow he'd survived it all and knowing the forces of nature his parents probably had not. Lightly he checked the boy in his arms for wounds finding only scratches and tattered clothing. He watched the wizard preform his ritual almost forgetting that Tharien was capable of such things but now they had a place of rest. After the wizard retrieved the boy Aerendis made his way slowly to the table finding himself standing alongside the Tiefling who smiled weakly at him when he spared the glance. Taking only seeds and small things he chewed into them finding it bitter but occupying. With that he headed for Tharien's tent retreating into it and stripping himself of his armor quickly falling into rest. |

Tharien awoke some hours later to the feeling of a broader chest against his back, and stronger arms around his waist, coupled with small hands clinging to his singed tunic. Pressing back into Aerendis' body, he looked down at the head of pitch black hair pressed against his collarbone. Aforementioned head pulled away and looked up as the already awakened child felt the movement of the 'grownup' that had protected him. Tharien gazed down into the most stunningly emerald eyes he had ever seen, the colour practically glittered like a gem. The wizard's own eyes may have been green, but it was a duller, more sinister colour that sometimes almost seemed to glow. Bringing a hand up to gesture for silence, Tharien tucked a loose lock of raven behind the boy's pointed ear, holding him close when he felt the young eladrin begin silently sobbing into his chest, the fear of what had happened finally getting to the child. |

Even subtle movements were enough to wake the paladin who'd been understandably on edge even during rest. As he woke he sat up carefully as not to disturb the other two even if he knew the boy was already awake. He didn't move from his sitting position and just slid his knees up against his chest. "So it was real wasn't it?" The darkness of the tent hadn't bothered him as he could still see rather easily and after sitting for a few moments he dragged his armor outside getting suited up. Clouds outside were still gray but no longer raining. Majharn lay in ruin but didn't have that burning smell from the previous day. |
