Sweat accumulating from not only his own exhaustion, but the heat emanating from their foe, Tharien flung another Force Orb at the bird as it tottered around in a daze, a magic missile following soon after. His aura was trying to force the phoenix heat away, as well as give the two Eladrin every chance they could get to beat the creature.

"Figures we'd find a phoenix" he stated grumpily to his companion, his breathing slightly laboured as he tried to breath properly in the heat

"Ah well, can't say things have been boring"

Again it spat fire in reaction to the spells scorching the room rather than it's target still being dizzy and under siege by the two, Aerendis followed up the spells with another combo of his hammer bringing it up to strike the bird's face and then down smashing into it's breast. The heat from being so close was not only making the paladin sweat but leaving him with minor burns which he didn't pay attention to.

At this the bird lashed out at Aerendis kicking once with each of it's talons but he quickly reacted by donning his shield allowing it to take the scraping of the talons.

Tharien expended more magic, sending forth yet another barrage of magic missile combined with force orb. The only real strategy he had at the moment was to hurt it hard and fast before it could hurt him or Aerendis, he was a little too tired for complex tricks.

The small Eladrin only hoped it ended soon, he wouldn't be able to expend much more power, and then he would just be dead weight, making things harder for the paladin. His eyes glowed with determination as he stood straight and proud despite his exhaustion.

Fire sprayed instinctively from it again blanketing the room in heat but it was starting to get used to Tharien's combo as it dodged the missile but not the orb that time. Aerendis decided to try his light attack pointing at the bird but it fizzled releasing no light at all so instead of forcing it he brought one hand to himself relieving the burns on his body.

"Are you alright Tharien?"

The matter of whether the wizard was alright mattered not at the moment as the bird flew up into the air careful not to misjudge it's ascent and crashed into the paladin as soon as he took his eyes off of it.

Tharien let out a wordless cry of alarm as the phoenix attacked, using fey step to appear in front of Aerendis. Coiling all his magic around himself he channeled power through his staff, a purple bubble of energy surrounding the two Eladrin as the wizard fought the phoenix's flames, trying his hardest to prevent them from reaching his companion.

"I'm fine...relaxed...calm even" he ground out as he held the shield around them both, the flames licking against it hungrily. He could only hope that it would hold.

Assuming it did, the next moment he could see the phoenix, it would be met with yet another force orb, the tired spelluser hoping to catch it before it could steady itself after the attack

"Thank Corellon for your shielding ability..."

The paladin sighed and focused himself on being rid of the bird then blasted it with holy light this time a whistling sound accompanying it then a shower of sparkles as it popped like a firecracker. It was dazed by the attack unable to act, even it's flames lost their potency as the light completely broad sided it along with Tharien's spell.

Panting, Tharien drew on the last reserves of his power, he couldn't keep it up much longer. Another force orb was hurled at the phoenix, followed by a magic missile. He was straining for breath, his mouth dry due to the heat and the constant spellcasting, the small wizard never easing in his chanting, the spells almost running into eachother as he cast.

His force orb somehow had an added punch behind it as it not only exploded when it struck the bird but continued to explode as shards until it was a fine mist greatly damaging the magical beast the magic missile just adding more to injury.

"Fucking die!"

A phrase that echoed through the room as a flying war hammer blasted the beast returning them to the outside in Majharn with two chests full of riches, a magic map and many phoenix downs. Aerendis was exhausted and almost collapsed onto the ground only just remembering that the human was waiting.

"What happened? you guys were only gone a few seconds... looks like the portal is operational though."

He eyed the chests and the phoenix downs blinking for a moment clearly showing what he was thinking.

With a wave of his hand and a few mumbled words, the chests and phoenix remains were shrunk and placed in a chest, which also shrunk, disappearing into Tharien's hand. Now completely exhausted, he slumped against the wall, sitting down to catch his breath.

"What does it matter human, the portal is working, go home" he said tiredly, "what happened is absolutely none of your concern." with a deep breath, he clambered to his feet, leaning heavily on his staff. Unless there were any interruptions, the tired teen would head back towards the tavern, needing to find a secure place where they could go through their newest 'gifts' and gain some rest.

After the wizard worked his magic the human leered at them both before stepping into the portal being whisked off to wherever it was he wanted to go. Aerendis had no qualms about following Tharien knowing exactly where they were going and when they got to the tavern asked for a room for once in his life. Quickly and without hesitation he headed to his room and began throwing off his armor as it clunked against the ground then untied his hair leaving him wearing only dark green johns.

"Boy that suit gets heavy when you're tired..."

Flexing his shoulders just about every bone in his upper body popped then he flopped on the nearest bed sleeping before he even touched the surface of it.

Tharien stormed up the stairs after Aerendis, infuriated by the Paladin's impatience. There was no way that they were going to pay so much gold for a single night in a room. They weren't buying the whole tavern after all. However he stopped short once he had reached the room. The subject of his ire was asleep, well and truly. Bereft of the armour that he normaly wore, and his hair around him like another blanket, the paladin looked relaxed and peaceful.

The wizard couldn't bring it in himself to awaken his companion, instead divesting himself of his own clothes down to his undergarments, and begrudgingly slipping under the covers of the only bed in the room. Feeling the warmth emanating from the body laying next to him, Tharien closed his eyes, and his last thought before going to sleep was

'We are definitely skipping out on the bill'

Considering Aerendis didn't actually need to sleep he required a lot less than was normal and as he woke it was steadily getting darker in the room, people outside were barking about the day watcher again as patrons from the tavern they were in rushed outside creating a lot of noise. In his scramble to orient himself he fumbled all over Tharien before falling onto the wooden floor not even realizing that they had been made to share a single bed. Through the only window in the room he watched the moonrise and the sunset for the very first time in his life, usually timezones were static in the Fey.

"Isn't that odd... I always hoped I'd get to see the moon."

He whispered to himself half sure that Tharien would be awake after what he ended up doing. Being an Eladrin he was aware of his low light vision being able to see perfectly only by moonlight, staring at Sehanine's large moon with it's faint purple glow he felt apprehensions.

"Who's the day watcher?"

Oof! Tharien was unceremoniously tossed out of the bed and sent sprawling on the floor as his companion decided to once more trip over his own feet and cause some sort of catastrophe. Spread out on the wooden floorboards, the young wizard tried to gather his bearings, his pale skin marred by the arcane lines etched into it seeming to glow in the rising moonlight.

Picking himself off the ground, the wizard walked over to the window to stare at the now dark sky.

"The Day Watcher....he was the one who could control the weather and seasons of the Fey...but he died before passing on the knowledge of how" Tharien said, bopping the paladin on the head for being so clumsy as to topple the two of them to the ground as he spoke.

Turning from the window, Tharien dressed himself and enlarged the chest that contained their most recent spoils. Now was the time to see what they had gotten for fighting for the amusement of deities.

Nearly falling over again as he was struck Aerendis grabbed onto one of the wooden shutters of the window only to break it off as he fell yet again onto the floor. A piece of paper flew out of the chest when Tharien opened it which was of course the magic map they obtained. It landed near Aerendis who picked it up thinking it was blank only for a map of Majharn to appear.

"When did we get a map of Majharn?"

He asked poking it with his finger only to have it scroll around images of the island like a drag and drop. When his finger pulled away from it the image snapped back to the room they were in labeling Tharien and Aerendis. Sitting up he began to act more like a child poking and playing with the magical device, other than that a bunch of phoenix feathers and a large sum of gold was in the chest.

Tharien quickly transfered the money to the pouch he carried, reapplying the spells he had placed on it to ensure its safety. That done he took up the Phoenix feathers, and, after a few minutes, had added three of them to his hair, tucked into the left side of his head and easily visible. A small strip of leather was produced, and another three of the phoenix feathers were tied to the wizard's staff.

Sneaking up on Aerendis, the small wizard tucked a single feather into the back of his hair, going over to attach another two to the Paladin's hammer. Nodding with satisfaction, Tharien sat down on the bed, waiting for his companion to be finished with whatever it was he was doing.

Standing up shortly after Tharien finished applying the feathers he thrust the map at the wizard while blinking for a few moments noticing the faint source of light in the room.

"I think your hair is on fire."

The winds of the ocean were coming in now with the moon's effect on the water blowing a somber damp gust into the room which was another new sensation for the paladin and one he particularly liked. Being as oblivious as he was he just now noticed his armor and hammer on the floor which he began to put on again toppling a bit after reapplying his plate mail.

"It's never easy to be used to this armor."

With loud thunks against the floor he began to make his way out of the room eager to journey the night with his companion but the thought of night reminded him of shadows and he stopped in his tracks becoming slightly rigid.

"By the way Tharien what did that woman mean when she spoke of 'Shadow'?"

Tharien was packing the map away when Aerendis' question was asked, something that he should have expected but for one reason or another hadn't. He tried to contain any tells in his motion that would say he was surprised or shocked, or concerned, though he certainly was.

"I have no idea" he lied as casually as he could, walking past Aerendis and out of the room "She was shadar-kai and a warlock to boot, so who knows what she meant" and with that he made his way downstairs to where the innkeeper was expecting him to pay a ridiculous sum for their scant use of a room.

The small wizard went up to the keeper and smiled as he cast a spell, trying to convince the innkeeper that he had already paid and didn't have to before signing out. Whether or not Aerendis believed his words, he wanted to get out of Majharn, he was getting antsy here.

He knew Tharien was lying as he walked by dismissing the subject altogether but he wouldn't press it any further glancing while Tharien did his thing then continuing outside to wait for the other. Majharn indeed had an unsettling air about it and he knew the wizard felt it too though it could also be due to the new time of day they were experiencing. They would again see illuminated by moonlight the bony staff carrying ferryman from earlier having to approach him in order to leave the island of course.

"There's only two destinations from here, you can go home or to the forbidden land."

A raspy voice forced out coughing shortly after clutching his staff as if his legs were no longer able to keep him up.

"I have no intentions of going anywhere else but the forbidden city if those are my choices."

Tharien barely glanced at the ferryman, his sudden distaste for Majharn overwhelming his distrust of the cloaked being. Lips pursed as he heard both the transport master's declaration, and Aerendis' decision, the small wizard simply nodded, lending his consent to the paladin's words.

"Lets just leave, obviously we weren't meant to stay here" he said, somewhat annoyed. This annoyed him somewhat, it felt as if someone was influencing his perceptions and making him want to leave. He had wanted to come to Majharn but all he had done was fight for the amusement of the gods and now he wanted nothing more than to leave.

Not voicing these misgivings, he simply waited for the ferryman to take them on their way

Tapping the butt of his staff on the dock he resided a large extravagantly crafted ship appeared though it didn't seem to be floating on the water but rather on the skin of it. A plank appeared welcoming the two onto it followed by the ferryman who crouched as he got onto the dock. At first the vessel moved slowly but it was soon apparent they were entering a portal of light which opened to engulf the ship.

"I'm not allowed near the city so I'll drop you off at an outpost. It's a short walk to the gates, consider this a favor... I think you'll be thanking me."

He or it seemed to be rambling as the rather smooth for it's seemingly fast voyage started to slow and come to an opening in the tunnel of light dropping them off at a dock by a lake leading to a small village where the buildings were wooden and some crafted into or on the very trees themselves.

"Welcome to Earthwood."

With that the ship whisked away rather impatiently leaving the two standing on an unguarded dock somehow raising the question why couldn't they have been transported onto the ship in the first place. Nobody approached them or greeted them, a few commoners were out but spared the new elves no mind.

Tharien's eyes widened at the sight of the boat, though he restrained himself from making a scene, trying to retain some of his dignity, though inside he felt like jumping up and down like a kid and squealing. He didn't like his father, but he still had an instinctual enjoyment of water, and boats were something he loved. The fact that he didn't trust the ferryman meant that any of his childish joy was thouroughly squashed and hidden.

The trip on the boat was quick, and before he knew it, he and his companion were suddenly standing on the dock of a place called Earthwood.

"Well, this place seems nice" Tharien remarked as he looked around, "but where exactly are we? and where should we be going?" slender fingers held his staff loosely as he examined the village for anything of interest.

Upon examination the two would realize it was little more than a settlement acting as a gate from one area to another which was proven by the fact that once they stepped onto the dirt path from the dock the guarded entrance and exit of the village were in range of their sight. An elderly female Eladrin sitting upon a stool near one of the tree houses got up to approach the two carrying in her hand a paper scroll.

"From the way you entered our town I'm assuming you're headed to the forbidden city. In fact our dock is never used for any other purpose, I wont ask any questions just that you'll want to head through the pine trail at the other end of town. We have only magical equipment and alchemical reagents for sale here not to say I couldn't help you with anything else."

Aerendis who had hardly been paying attention instead made like he was picking his nails earning a disdainful look from the old woman. Turning around she meandered back to her stool showing the infirmities of age which was rare in an Eladrin. Again among the crowd there was somewhat of a misfit with rounded ears and facial hair.

Tharien bowed to the elderly Eladrin is respect, thwacking Aerendis across the chest with his hand when she turned her back, only for there to be a ringing of metal. Cursing quietly to himself he held his now injured hand to his body, having realised too late that hitting an armoured body wasn't the best idea.

"You coulda tried to show some respect" he hissed in exasperation as he rubbed his sore hand, "instead of just ignoring her"

That said, he wandered off, heading into the small village to see what sort of magical equipment that they had here, even if he couldn't, or wouldn't, buy it, just looking was always fun. He would eventually find the store and enter it if he was allowed, taking the time to browse through their goods. He hadn't yet noticed the human wandering around, due to his focus on his injured limb.

After being scolded he followed Tharien into the shop folding his arms while observing the equipment. A man sat behind a wooden counter at the end of the store fiddling with some shiny gems and dust.

"It wasn't like I ignored her Tharien but there's another human around."

Being the curious one he was Aerendis found a rack of rods picking one up that hummed loudly then shot leaving a large burn mark on the wall as he dropped it hiding his hands behind himself. The keeper didn't seem particularly bothered by the act.

Tharien browsed through the shop, his green eyes lingering over this item or that, "You didn't even acknowledge her existance" he exclaimed as he focused on a particularly interesting wand that caught his attention. It was a beautiful dark wood with a bone handle, about twelve inches long it came to a delicate point. The laquered wood was of a kind he recognised as common to both Shadowfell and the Feywild, and had a few small symbols carved into it. The bone handle had a vine pattern etched into it, and where the bone ended a small dark stone was set, gleaming in the light.

Picking it up, Tharien immediately felt an affinity with the implement, it felt right in his hand for some reason.

"What could a human possibly be doing here?" he asked scornfully as he meandered through the store, the wand carefully grasped within his free hand. After a few minutes of browsing, he walked up to Aerendis.

"Anything of interest to you?" he asked, before lowering his voice to a whisper "also, can you try and haggle the price down on this wand? I'd do it myself, but I'm not very good at it, I tend to come across as too arrogant or something"

"Nothing here I could use."

Taking the wand from Tharien he examined and even swung it around a little being curiously playful but also careful, handling it rather delicately. Walking to the counter he placed the wand onto it which grabbed the attention of the keeper.

"How much would you have me pay for this wand?"

Standing up the elf took a look at it himself twirling it between his fingers furrowing his brow before setting it down.

"I confess I hadn't hand crafted this one but I usually go for about 520 gold pieces."

At this Aerendis contemplatively cupped his chin before speaking again.

"If it's not one of your own how can you be sure of it's quality? I'll give you 390 gold pieces and I'll even get my friend here to fix the wall I burned."

Without much more argument the owner of the shop agreed stating "We don't get much business being so close to the Forbidden City but I make a profit due to my hand made equipment. It's a deal."

Tharien had wandered out of the shop while Aerendis went to barter with the shopkeeper, having already given the other male as much money as he knew they could afford to part with, and done browsing. Out in the village the Eladrin wizard just wandered around, looking at whatever took his fancy as he waited for his companion to be done with the little task he had given him.

He was particularly on the look out for that human that Aerendis said he had seen, Tharien's innate dislike of the race in fae territory making him almost want to seek it out.

After finishing transactions he looked around for Tharien rather absent minded then darted out the shop without so much as a second thought. He saw Tharien meandering about looking for something while a purple deer striding through town got the paladin's attention.

The human Tharien was looking for was leaned up against the backside of a tree and whistled at the elf. He was most certainly a human as he had a goatee among his discerning features, the man wore the same type of armor as Aerendis and the human they'd seen in Majharn.

"You're what they call a wizard right?"

This man had a gruff voice and carried a clear crystal in the shape of Corellon's star which was something a human definitely shouldn't be holding.

"You like relics like this right? wanna do something for me? yeah?"

The daywatcher's moonlight danced and gleamed as the star of Corellon acted like a prism.

Tharien gritted his teeth as he focused on what the human was holding, his green eyes flashing as rage built up. Barking a harsh word in abyssal, he tried taking the star from the man, intending to levitate it somewhere above his head to protect it from the desecration.

"How...dare...you" he hissed dangerously as his magic whipped around him, reflecting his inner anger, the energy would by like pins driving into the foolish human's body, causing discomfort at the least. Gathering power into his hand, a force orb formed there and shot towards the human, fuelled by indignant rage.

"You foul little worm"

The human didn't seem surprised by the reaction as he let the relic go, he shouted something in Riedran as the force orb exploded against him causing him to lurch forward. His shout brought the attention of another human wearing a full suit of armor wielding a large spear. Charging and stabbing at Tharien he would miss rather badly.

Now steadying himself after being struck with the force orb he pulled a giant axe from his back, a tether loop at the base of it which he used to swing around. By now of course Aerendis' attention had been brought to the battle and he stepped in next to Tharien grabbing the weapon by the blade stopping it's advance.

"What's going on?"

He asked as the residents of the small encampment took shelter. The sentries were about to get involved but the old woman near the pier made some kind of symbol with her hand and they remained still. She and the guards of the place were the only ones who hadn't run away.
