Tharien let out a startled gasp as Aerendis disappeared and the lights went out, his heart beating wildly when he heard the crash of the paladin hitting the ground some distance away. He let out a very audible sigh of relief as the 'I'm ok' wafted out from the hole that his campanion had been dropped down.

With a whispered word the room lit up as light shone frome the eyes of the serpent on his staff, the soft blue tinged light allowing the eladrin wizard to better see his surroundings. Tharien reached down to pick up the die by his feet, whispering a few more words and causing the small game piece to light up brightly, enough to blind someone temporarily if they stared at it.

"Close your eyes, I'm dropping down some light" he called out as he walked to the edge of the hole that Aerendis had been dropped down, waiting for the paladin to confirm that he had heard what was said before dropping the bright light that was once a die.

That should allow the other eladrin to see what was around and weather Tharien should help get him out of there, or come down and join him.

"Alright!"

Closing his eyes before speaking in order to more properly defend himself against whatever it was the wizard was doing he was soon overtaken by a very bright light. Of course he knew enough to turn away from it before reopening his eyes. Aerendis was blinded even if he wasn't looking directly at it but his eyes adjusted quickly bringing into focus three lumbering elven corpses from down the hall in front of him.

"I'm glad you sent that light down as swiftly as you did. Our ancestors have awoken it seems."

"Aww crap" Tharien said at Aerendis' assessment of the situation, the small wizard levitating himself down the hole to help his companion deal with the threat of walking dead. With a few muttured words he lifted his hand, a pillar of flame shooting up from underneath the feet of the centre zombie as he cast scorching burst.

"Guess he was wrong about the necromantic magic huh?" Tharien quipped as he waited to see whether his spell would have had the effect he was hoping for and had managed to take down the three moving corpses before they could reach the two living Eladrin

Following the wizard's column of fire Aerendis pointed at the same target and brought down his own column of blinding holy light. It crashed with a thunderous boom unlike his previous uses of the technique. Powered by indignation it fused with Tharien's attack wreathing the undead in holy fire completely destroying the one in the center and heavily weakening the other two. With disbelief he lowered his accusing finger and wobbled on his feet dropping to one knee in order to breathe.

"Just what was that?!"

Tharien blinked in shock as the two companions' attacks seemed to fuse, creating something far more powerful than he could have expected otherwise, the remaining two zombies seeming to wobble around in shock from the devestation of the attack.

"I have no idea" he said softly, "but that was pretty cool" the teenage wizard grinned at his companion, before hurling a magic missile at one of the remaining opponents, leaving the other for Aerendis to deal with, assuming the Paladin caught his breath between now and the time it was trying to claw their eyes out

Shortly after the wizard let fly his projectile Aerendis forced himself to his feet charging the other zombie and with a mighty swing of his hammer splattered it all over the adjacent wall. However when Tharien struck his target it seemed to absorb the missile then ripped off it's own arm and tossed it at the paladin who of course shielded against it rather easily.

"It's weak necromancy which I remember being stronger and more guarded when I was young."

Tharien shrugged as the zombie kept coming, going so far as to throw its own limb at the two living eladrin which was easily blocked by his companion. "It is rather weak" he said casually as he hurled a magic missile at the zombie, followed by a second should the first not deal with it, "Though I imagine you've gotten a lot stronger too"

After all, when you're a kid, everything is bigger, stronger, or faster, so it stood to reason that the zombies had seemed to be more powerful than they were.

With the zombie easily downed by the two missiles it returned to dust just as the illumination in the area fizzled out. At the end of the corridor a pale blue moonlight was shining brightly over a casket which was odd considering outside it was always day. Aerendis strode into the room still wielding his shield and weapon studying the stone casket which was on the altar.

Nothing else about the room was particularly noteworthy except for the high up window showing the outside as night rather than day. Doing the only thing he could think of the paladin began to open the casket revealing an undulating purple swirling mass of energy within.

"This isn't any normal mausoleum is it?"

"Was it the swirling vortex of power that gave it away?" Tharien asked sarcastically, though there was no bite to his tone as he stared at what his companion uncovered. The whole place was odd, and obviously there was more to it than a simple crypt guarded by necromancy. The teen brushed some of his hair out of his face as he looked at the purple energy seething within the casket.

Closing his eyes he took a deep breath, extending his senses outward as his free hand formed an odd shape to aid in his concentration.

"What do we have here?" he murmured softly, trying to determine just what the energy was, and what it would do, without effecting it in any way.

From the wizard's observations he would be able to discern that it was a source of non malicious energy meant to move matter from one point to another though where it went he didn't know. Even though Aerendis was learned in these kinds of things he figured Tharien would ask for help if he needed it not wanting to tread waters he probably didn't belong in. Now that the presence of monsters had gone from the area the paladin was more at ease stowing his weapon and shield.

"So what is it? and why is it in a coffin?"

"Seems to be a portal of some kind, though I was taught not to trust unknown portals" Tharien said as he stared at the energy, "As for why its in a coffin, I have absolutely no idea. Some sort of sick joke or something maybe"

The wizard sighed and ran a hand through his hair contemplating just what they could do. There was the stupid thing, which was just jump through, but the young Eladrin was anything but stupid, and so he wasn't about to just dive through an unknown portal.

"So, what do you think we should do now?"

"Well it's either through the portal or we go back to the dead end."

There wasn't much to contemplate but the paladin couldn't figure a way back up the hole he'd fallen through but there was no doubt the wizard would be able to make it back easily. Peering into the undulating mass of energy he swallowed once then looked back.

"I suppose you could magic your way back up that hole or through the window but it looks like my only option is this portal."

Accepting it as an inevitability he leaped in head first crashing through weak stone on the other side of it ending up rolling through darkness again only this time holding his head trying to drown out the ringing in his ears.

"Ah fuck my head... why is it always so god damned dark where I end up?"

Tharien let out a cry of alarm as his companion jumped through the portal, a look of worry on the wizard's face. Without thought of the consequences he too jumped through the portal, feet first, landing on his feet gracefully as he appeared at the other end.

A whispered word was enough to light up the tip of his staff once more, and Tharien quickly searched out Aerendis. Upon ensuring that the paladin was ok, he bopped the other male lightly on the head, worry giving way to anger.

"You idiot, what the hell were you thinking? Jumping headfirst into an unknown portal is about the stupidist thing you could have done. Do have no common sense at all? I was wor...." his berating trailed off as he realised what he had been about to say. Clearing his throat in embarassment he turned away from Aerendis, looking around the place they had ended up.

Light suddenly cleared Aerendis' vision and then a familiar berating of words flew out of Tharien's mouth. He'd been scolded by wizard's before so it was nothing new but the bop to his head made his ears ring and his head sorer.

"You were what?"

He began to say while holding his head only to be cut off by a door on the other side of the room reacting to the source of light glowing a faint blue just like the first door they encountered. Turning around to look at the portal he saw that it was hidden by a fake wall which had been broken by his head. Looking up at the wizard he stood up rather shakily surveying the room again only to spot a stone door directly behind him woven by chains and locks. There were rows upon rows of simple stone coffins in this room as well.

"Well there's a locked door a runic door and a portal. No sign of shamblers... what did we come down here looking for again?"

"You know what, I don't remember" Tharien mumbled as he looked around, "weren't we just told that there was something in here we could use? Or was I just not paying attention?" he had been mostly focused on reigning in his anger at the manhandling of his staff, so it was a very strong possibility that he had missed something.

He looked around the room, trying to look for any clues without doing anything that might be hazardous to their continued existance.

Even though it was still almost too dark to see the ceiling clearly there would indeed be a clue for Tharien to spot. The skeletal remains of a giant were jutting out of the ceiling with it's hand pointing to the wall next to the chained up door. Aerendis had already pondered the smashing through of the door wielding his hammer with both hands and tapping it on the chains.

"Oh right he said there would be something for us in here while he prepares a caravan."

Tharien squinted slightly as he made out the remains of what looked to be a giant convieniently pointing in a direction. It was possible that this was a hint as to what they were supposed to do in this place.

The wizard made his way towards the wall that the giant skeleton pointed at, his ears pricked in caution. He would then examine the wall to see if there was anything special about it, being very careful so as to avoid any possible traps he might see.

"Do you see that up on the ceiling?" he asked his companion, hoping to distract the Paladin before he got too hasty.

"See the what?"

Aerendis said immediately stopping what he was doing to look up craning his neck so much that he fell over backwards creating a large dust cloud with an audible thud. It wasn't one of his most graceful moments to be sure. Dusting himself off he ran over to the wizard peering over his shoulder not noticing anything particularly dangerous himself but did see something out of place.

"Oh hey that brick is worn around the edges!"

Deftly he stepped forward poking at it only to knock it through and with another series of loud thundering noises the wall fell away to reveal a long dark stairwell.

Tharien sighed in exasperation, unable to bring himself to berate Aerendis this time, it just wouldn't help the situation. Instead he simply shook his head, gesturing for his companion to go first. After all, the paladin did seem to have some luck, so he should be fine. Tharien on the other hand would likely be killed if he had gone first, that would have been just his luck.

Grumbling to himself softly he would follow Aerendis, alert for any danger

Descending the dark set of worn stone stairs they soon would see a source of light at the bottom leading into a torchlit sort of alcove. It went from cryptic to cavernous as the walls were made merely of dirt and rock now. In front of them was an old wooden door which was slightly stuck and easily pried open by the reckless Paladin. Inside both of them would find a decent size arcane laboratory which seemed to be for making weapons and treating the dead however despite being 'sealed off' everything in here was fresh.

"What a mysterious resting place for the dead."

Aerendis commented as he regarded a nearby rack of staves and wands careful of course not to touch them in case they had not been completed. There was a time he grabbed hold of an arcane implement before it was fully enchanted and his rough handling of it made for some nasty results.

"What d'ya think Tharien?"

Tharien looked around the room, trying to see what was useful, interesting, or of value, and separating it from what was worthless in his mind, careful not to touch anything until he made sure that it was safe to do so.

"I'm not sure, seems like someone didn't want people finding his workshop" the wizard mused as he looked through the stuff.

There were reagents that could be of interest to him such as rare acids and minerals but none of the implements were prepared enough to be useful and judging by how they were made he might not want to use them. Tharien's attention would be drawn by a large reactor in the back of the cave glowing ominously with eldritch energy and it appeared to be attached to a rock of rods behind it. Inside the reactor however was an Eladrin soon to be a corpse and far beyond saving, just then a voice echoed through the cavernous laboratory.

"Bixro is that you? I thought you said you sealed the other entrance."

It was the voice of a crazy old man in hood and robe who soon hobbled into view from a door behind the reactor grimacing as he saw the two intruders. Tapping the reactor the pale corpse fell out of it soon rising to it's feet with the help of the man's black magic. From his sleeve he produced a small totem clutching it tightly as he sent the shambling minion forward.

"So has he sent you to die Aerendis? you were supposed to return to Aerenal and burn to the ground with it. Seems Corellon is ever mysterious isn't he?"

"Friend of yours?" Tharien asked as he gathered his power around himself, rousing the magical energy he posessed. It wasn't that impressive just yet, but he was the son of two Noble Eladrin, and his power had a distinct edge to it that carried the hint of the power of his sire and bearer, and the slightest shimmering touch of the Shadowfell barely discernable.

The young wizard readied himself, and would put two magic missiles through the shambling minion if it got within two meters of him and his companion. He wasn't about to let his guard down, especially after seeing what this arcane workshop contained, though it did have some stuff he would take with him, once he had dealed with its current owner.

For being a shambler the thing was quite agile first knocking one of the missiles out of the way with it's empowered necromantic aura then literally back flipping away from the other. Aerendis was of course jarred by what the old man said about his hometown and that things just weren't making sense with Bixro all of a sudden. As he raised his finger instinctively to blast the zombie away with radiant energy he faltered and nothing happened becoming further demoralized by the haughty laugh of the necromancer.

"So this is the extent of the arcane knights?"

The taunt only served to enrage him but he retained his complexion knowing a friend was by his side that and the zombie was trying to take advantage of his weakness by charging him and delivering a roundhouse kick which he answered to with his warhammer stepping back and parrying the creature with a two handed shove of the handle causing it to stagger. For now the crazy old man was just content to watch and throw in his taunts.

Tharien gathered the energy required for force orb in his free hand, his lips moving as he swiftly mouthed the incantation for the spell. With a flick of his wrist he sent the orb flying at the zombie, the orb of magic shooting across the room towards its target.

Watching carefully he'd send a quick an subtle magic missile straight at the creature as soon as he could be certain a hit, his lips quirked back over his teeth in a soundless snarl. The wizard was ever wary of the creature's master, so as to not be caught off guard in case the loathsome creator decided to take action.

Of course being staggered allowed no time for it to react as the shards of glass embedded in it's body causing it to ooze black dead blood from it's wounds. The magic missile also made it's mark catching the creature in the gut causing it to keel over in front of the Paladin who raised his warhammer high above his head bringing it down only for the handle to be caught by his target. It was surprisingly strong and of course had a nasty trick up it's sleeve, with a gleam of it's eye it shot a purple bolt at Aerendis forcing him to make a decision which was dodge or take the hit.

Deciding it better not to discover what nasty treat the magic had in store for him he let go of his hammer stepping to the side only for the zombie to raise his weapon against him however he made good use of his large shield quickly reacting locking the two in a stalemate of strength attempting to overpower one another. Again the haughty old spell caster just watched with a crooked smile on his face ever so sure of himself.

Tharien grimaced in frustration as the zombie and Aerendis squared off. With his companion so close he couldn't use his more destructive spells, as he would hurt the other male. Instead he would have to simply make do with what he could.

Another two magic missles would be hurled at the necromancer's slave, hopefully either ending it or simply giving the paladin a chance to counter attack and finish it once and for all. The wizard glanced at the other being in the room, concerned by the fact that he had yet to enter the fray, hopefully it was simply arrogance.

Using the inertia of it's stolen weapon the zombie tried to throw Aerendis in the path of the missiles which worked at least somewhat as his shield absorbed the blast of one though he ducked and the other made it's mark sending the creature backward. Spinning while crouched Aerendis mouthed a quick prayer pointing at the wretched zombie blasting it with a ray of light from his erect finger which caused the unholy creature to screech and writhe dropping the paladin's hammer. The necromancer behind him seemed to cower from the light removing himself from the vicinity of the battle into a dark corner of the laboratory.

"Just blast it Tharien!"

Now that his companion was free from the zombie, Tharien was free to hit it properly with his more powerful spells. Whispered words flew from his mouth as the ground beneath the zombie began to glow red, a pillar of flames shooting up from underneath it to immolate the necromantic creature.

"Don't tell me what to do" he snapped at Aerendis irritably, though there was no real bite to it, he was just a grumpy wizard, that's all.

If it should survive that, the wizard would put another magic missile through it, hopefully putting the creature out of comission. However if he did manage to kill it, the spell would be held, ready to be thrown at the necromancer at a moment's notice.

The false life seemed to die from it's eyes after suffering the explosion and Aerendis rushed to grab hold of his warhammer watching as the necromancer emerged from hiding approaching the fallen minion. He'd already raised a shield before stepping out which dealt with Tharien's magic missile and he didn't seem the least bit worried about coming within the vicinity of Aerendis. Still he clutched the statuette in his hand which glowed with a black aura to which Aerendis reacted immediately brandishing his weapon against the magical shield only for it to fizzle.

The battered and broken zombie flew up like a puppet dragged by strings glowing with the same aura as the statue. It attempted to attack Aerendis sloppily but of course couldn't even bother him enough to pay it any attention.
