Okay, let's be serious for a moment.

This is a call for change. I don't mean just another minor update or fix, but real and radical shifts across the entire spectrum that makes up EL.

Over the years I have read many topics about people leaving EL. Some blame the attributes cap which was implemented many years ago. That was a huge change for many. We don't see these kind of changes these days, and that is depressing.

MMOs come and go. The tech world and gaming industry are changing fast. It's the natural flow. EL is old, a dying game reaching the end of its life cycle, but that's not the worst aspect of it. Whereas other MMOs comparable to EL have already run dry and players have left their virtual worlds, EL is dying a slow, slow death. Neither alive, nor having reached a point of closure. This is what pains me the most.

To those developing and contributing to EL even now, I strongly urge you to really change things, really shake things up. Do not think that updating EL with minor tweaks and adjustments will get you to a point where EL is in some sort of state of perfect equilibrium. These little updates often do nothing but to prove that EL is in beta limbo, a term that may sound familiar to some of you.

Over the years, many many awesome (and not so awesome) suggestions have been extensively written and discussed. Revisit them, and this time, actually implement them the best way you can. As I have said earlier, really shake things up. Change the attributes cap, combat system, hydro-to-pp system, pk system, alt policies, add/remove skills, perks, items, and more! Heck, even spoken dialogues would be a positive change to EL's boring decay! Try these changes, experiment with things, this is beta after all. The way EL currently stands, you have little to lose.

Stop making little changes, go big, GO HUGE. If you are still developing EL and care so much about the game, even when it has been dying for years, you should know that the time has come to take some big risks and implement major changes. It's better than leaving EL in its current state. Ex-players may even come back and try the game again when significant changes are made, who knows.

EL has been a tremendously fun game. Its future doesn't look too bright, but EL isn't completely beyond saving yet. The choice is yours, developers, contributors, and players.

I'll keep a civil tongue here and just say that tyrannical practices like these do not should not work, especially in small MMOs like EL. Power lies with its players, especially those who have been playing for years and know the game and the community well.

Rebel and revolt, push for CHANGE.

I can say the same thing about TV shows or Strippers, the shitty ones stay while the good ones go. However let's not look it it in terms of a black and white thing, it's not simply a 1 or a 0, good or bad, it's more of providing something that consumers want and market penetration.

First of all, EL provided something at the time that was not really around - A free MMO

Second, after a stable amount of players were amassed they were held back by what they had accomplished in game. People who did grind out that 150 a/d did not want to quit as they would see all their work go to waste, this is a rational decision and understandable both from a logical and a human perspective.

The quality of the game really had no impact on why it was attractive. It was really like the girl at 4am who is desperate for a fuck and you're feeling pretty drunk and horny, fuck it eh, she might be a 4/10 but you're drunk, horny and no one else is providing the same service. As a rational consumer you have your demand and that woman provides utility (utility of course is based on the person and some people may or may not be willing to fuck a 4/10, some might be willing to fuck a 2/10, some may not be willing to fuck a 7/10 because of personal reasons, the average male however will have no objections)

So yes, EL was that girl, you pick her up and you end up liking her. Your friends start liking her too because she's pretty cool, she doesn't want any money, she has enough, you give her a call once in a while and she comes over to hook-up with you. It's a cool relationship. You want to continue it because you're too lazy or broke to find another girl and you've already built up a decent relationship with this one.

Fuck it you think to yourself, but then countless hours pass, it's been 3 years since that sweaty hookup after a night fueled by Skittle infused Vodka and Jameson. Things are getting serious and you have a pretty good thing, you could get a new girlfriend but something just stops you, maybe the brother of this girl smokes weed with you once in a while or she bakes really nice cakes. But the real reason is that you've spent so much time with her that you feel like it would be a waste to just throw that all out the window.

EL is exactly the same.

How do you plan for the to implement this, they have to go through Radu, why are you not appealing to him. Do you know how much effort it takes to start up your own EL server and even then how do you guarantee that people will come play on your server with all these features? People already have their pimped out toons on the official servers.

You're just listing stuff, start justifying why these changes will be good. Change for the sake of change is not a good thing.

EL doesn't appeal to you in it's current state, why should they cater it to your tastes, the devs seem relatively happy with it and if the players keep playing doesn't that mean that either the game is satisfying enough to justify them spending time on it or that they are so addicted to it that it can be shit-awful and they will still play it. Your suggestion makes no sense.

Have you done any analysis at all on this? Have you looked at correlations and established a cause and effect relationship? How big was your sample size for these studies? How did you ensure that there was no bias in this study? Talkingoutofyourass/10

I'm sure you're a nice kid and all, but even if this is trolling it just shows how fucking stupid you are.

If it's serious, come back with a new essay (more like a fucking executive summary), get some data, get some facts, do a nice little literature review and a case study of the game and perhaps then people will take this a bit more seriously.
