"International Burn a Quran Day" causing problems

"President Barack Obama sternly admonished a Florida pastor Thursday and appealed to him to call off plans to torch the Quran, saying Saturday's planned protest on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks is a dangerous "stunt" that could imperil U.S. troops abroad and incite suicide bombers on American soil."

The American Muslim leaders and many others are worried it is going to cause a rise of suicide bombings across the US and Europe, as well as a rise in recruitment into al-Qaida.

All across the mideast, people have been burning American flags, saying "Death to the christians!".

...It won't be a pretty sight if it goes through.

Accoding to NBC News with Brian Williams the situation is resolved. Supposedly the Sec of Defense (Robert Gates) gave the guy a call. What he said I have no idea of but I'm assuming he convinced him he'd be a dead man if he had gone through with this little charade.

It wasn't a matter of freedom. We all know the quite a bit of the middle-eastern muslims hate the US. If they didn't, 9/11 wouldn't happen.

If the burning of their sacred book went through, I'm sure a modern version of the Crusades would've happened.

I'll go burn one film it and put it on youtube right now. Gonna come after me for burning a book? Seems kinda stupid am I right? They are just such tightwads over there about that kinda crap.

Oh my stepdad thought of a wonderful idea to avert the building of the Mosk at ground zero. Spread Pig blood there, since pigs are "unclean" lmao.

Yeah I'm sorry I just think all this is religious BS, and shouldn't even affect politics. <.<

It shouldn't. But when the government IS religion there (The president is pretty much 2nd in command. The Islamic leader is on top).

People can be stubborn with what they believe in. If something like that happened, people would not look beyond the fact you burned their sacred book.

no, look what happened with 9/11. Did we know that we had people who were bombers? If we did, there would've been this much security back then.

He's pretty much saying "What if?" and does not want to take chances.

So what if they do then? We'll just bomb the hell outta em again. If they do it's the prelude to their own demise. It's foolish to make such actions at the burning of the book. Ok let's deal in a what if right now.

What if we all burned a FAKE Quran, meaning blank pages. They attacked us for burning a fake Quran. Technically they bombed us for no reason then and we have ours to destroy them. That's just a what if scenario.

there's two possible outcomes: One they knew it was fake, and the other they didn't.

1) They knew it was fake: It would probably lead to some annoying arguments over the fact that it was titled as the Quran, but no bombing would take place.

2) They didn't know it was fake: Bombings would happen all across Europe and the United States, even more hatred towards us, recruiting into al-Qaeda, and other insane stuff.

the 2nd one, they still have a reason. To them, it's a real thing that happened, not simply a little prank, or whatever it was done for. It may be not justified on our side, but it was justified on theirs.
