wow, a half page of warnings to stay on topic, oh the irony! ![]() alright, sorry. serious matter. -This oil spill has been called Obama's Hurricane Katrina in the sense that it has devastated America, Mexico, and even other island nations. Would you agree with this? um... tough to say. I mean it's a huge crisis that needs to be fixed immediately, but I'd say that Katrina was more life threatening. Not to belittle the current situation, it's bad, but I think the hurricane was worse. -As of that, do you agree with Obama's decision to wait so long for the government to step in and solve the problem? Waiting for it to just get worse is a pretty bad choice, but I don't know. It would have been better if the whole thing had not have happened. The waiting was bad though. -How do you feel it will affect the lives of US Citizens in the upcoming future? It might get into our water supply or something suckish like that, at worst case scenario. Oil spills happen, but there are people we need to trust to deal with them and who know how to deal with them. That's my optimistic point of view anyway. |

I think it's Obama's Katrina because it is in fact life threatening. It affects wild life severely, as well people will not be able to go swimming, fishing, etc. Whats also making it more difficult is that BP is trying to save the oil more so than clean it up. I get why you would want to do this but the damage is already too severe for that. What bugs me the most is that had the employees done their jobs and inspected the equipment/did monthly audits, then this could have been prevented. |

Didn't BP say they had loaned that rig to some other company or something? If so why aren't they also taking the heat as well? Edited by Light, Jun 13 2010, 10:00 AM.

The reason is: There was a whistleblower. For those who don't know what one is, a whistleblower is someone who works for a company that releases info that was intentionally covered up by the higher-ups in order to save face. The whistleblower came from BP, and they claimed BP knew about the cheating on the blowout preventer tests. Whether or not they loaned it to another company, it's their responsibility to take care of the rig in the first place. |

Funny I just wrote a huge paper on whistleblowers. But yeah Whistleblowers are people who release to the public information regarding corporate leaders that are committing fraud or withholding important information. BP was responsible for keeping tabs and chacks on the pipelines and were cheating. |

Big companies like BP want to look as good as they can to the public. That's why the smaller company is not getting in trouble. One, BP owns the rig, so they have responsibility to make sure it's running properly. Two, the whistleblower has basically destroyed a lot of BP's attempts to dodge the controversy. Both by killing of the blame of the company who made the blowout system and the other company, and by shining a bigger light on BP. |
