 How about you make it a passive where 35% of the times you can evade regular melee attacks, 20% of the times you take only 30% of the damage from a spell, 10% of the times you take no damage at all from spells. Not sure if that would work, but your decision on how you would make it work. :\

 the defend mode could also be different from player to player so they dont get a too big advantage.
like buu, maybe he will have reduced dmg by 50% or chance to miss and attack by 50% or reduced attack speed.
