If there are 5 people in the tourney before you get there then you might as well not go because chances are if you're weak that you'll get knocked out in the first round or not get any matches until the finals then you'll lose. I second this. The matches are randomized so you'd be able to just maybe get that 1 round vs a npc thus free stats. It might even help u catch up to some of the players inside the tourny as well. You've got nothing to lose anyways if your weaker so taking a risk for free stats is a win imo.
