The final version will be complete in time for Fanime 2011. This beast is DONE!

In case anyone is wondering what I am made, here is a checklist of things to make my MK costume:
1x Hoberman Mega Sphere (the hull, rigid yet compactable)
3x nylon shoulder straps (to hold the sphere in place at the correct level, attached via removable hooks and key rings to the hull)
100 square feet of blue canvas (cut into 11 pentagons and 17 triangles with edge length 18" and sewn together)
1x large purple felt cape 6'x6' with gold ribbon trim (plastic near the top and hard white hard fabric on inside layer)
2x black cloth pauldrons (made from modded black bowler hats with foam shape inside and painted with gold leafing pen)
2x flexible plastex boot attachments (shinstraps to bendable plastic with black and purple felt cover for shoes)
1x foam sword (precision cut foam board attached to a toy sword base and painted gold, with 2 red circle buttons on hilt)
2x white dual-layer (one for a human size hand) oven-mitt style canvas gloves (stitched to the blue felt shell along with 6" blue felt sleeves)
1x curved plastex conic section painted metallic sliver (28" edge length for mask and with black felt for visor area, attachable with hooks)
3x 60-ft rolls of black duct tape (used for various parts)
4x sew-on button snaps (to attached the cape to the hull)
8x 6-ft velcro strips (used for various parts)
1x pack of staples (used for various parts)
2x Krylon 18kt gold leafing pens (for painting fine gold edges around the costume)
2x cone shaped foam pieces (cut into halves, painted, and attached with velcro to the mask to form the 4 ridges on the mask near the top)
2x A6 size yellow El Panel illuminescent panels with 9V batteries and transformers (for bright yellow eyes)
1x micro color spy camera with 2.4 GHz wireless emitter/receiver* (9V battery x2 operated, attached to the silver mask)
1x Vuzix 920 video glasses* (AA battery x2 operated to see outside the costume through the camera)
1x DLO portable speakers set (AAA battery x4 operated for taunts, played through an iPod)
1x sleeveless vest with pockets (to hold the myriad of electronics and batteries needed for the system to function)
1x LED key chain hanging from the vest (for internal illumination)
1x large heavy-duty duffel bag (large enough to hold all fabric-based items)
* high tech way of making a digital periscope for looking around

Optional addons I am considering for next time (will be attached to the vest I will wear inside the costume):
1x car-size rear-view mirror ornament air freshener (might not be a bad idea >.>)
1x battery powered dimensional cape with built-in glitch to extend space-time jump distance (I wish)
1x bag of cheetos to pig out while the judges sh*t themselves over my costume (srsly)

Total cost: priceless (but seriously, a LOT, :ermm: )
for everything else there is MasterCard, or Visa in my case.

Edit: finally finished this monster. The cost was higher than originally planned, but everything works great.

I will be holding a small viewing session for those who are not able to attend Fanime 2011 when I return from Fanime. Let me know if you are interested in seeing the costume!

The costume took some minor damage on the way there so I was unable to use the boots I made. Furthermore, I was unable to control the arms as originally intended, so the costume didn't impress as much as I wanted. Also, on the stage, the announcer didn't mention any of the internal controls I had such as the video camera/glasses, ipod+speakers sound system, etc. But here is the section on the walk-ons:

Enjoy!

Here is a decent pic of the costume (without the boots).

Awesome. How'd Fanime respond? Did you enter the Masquerade?

Yeah, the masquerade was the video in the link above the picture (at least the walk-on part of it). Everyone seemed to love it despite the flaws I mentioned. If I redo this for ALA, I will redo the hull with something stronger like PVC piping and maybe redo the mask a little smaller (maybe 24" radius instead of 28"). Also, I can try and get custom pauldrons for the next one.
