For players in their 4th-6th years I have a question on the arbitration scale. Lets take Buster Posey as an example as he is now a 4th year player in 2013. Busters salary for 2012 was $1.2m. According to the arbitration scale I would add: 24hrs: $1m x 60%= $.6m 103rbis: $2.5m x 60%= $1.5m 78runs: $1m x 60%= $.6m .957OPS: $4m x 60%= $2.4 mil. So taking his 4 year base salary of $1.5 I would add the above to get a salary of: $6.6m to for 2013 correct? Second question: Players I picked up during free agency for 2012 with a one year contract, do I have an option to resign that player? Or is he automatically placed back into free agency? I see multiple threads on the forum discussing this but I didn't see what the final answer was. Third Question: I remember Pujols having this issue last year, but a player that I had signed on my home club that was traded to another team, do I have an option to keep this player since he was a hometown selection? For my example I am referring to Nate Schierholtz who was traded midseason to the phils (which is an owned team in our league). Thanks |

Answer 1) Absolutely correct on the math there. You can save a few steps though. Since the multiplier for every category for a 4th year players is .6 you can just add $1.0 + 2.5 + 1.0 + 4.0 = $8.5 x .6 = $5.1 for the arb raises + $1.5 4th year money = $6.6M total for Posey in 2013. Whatever is easiest for you works. This process will be the same for all players in their 4th-6th year pro who you choose to keep on your 2013 roster. This INCLUDES any players who are on your roster whose guaranteed contracts have expired but are still arb eligible. Keep in mind all arb eligible (and young players; 1st-3rd year) players have non-guaranteed contracts which means if they are getting too expensive, ineffective, or you simply don't need them anymore and can't find a trade partner for them you may simply non tender and let them walk to the free agent pool. Answer 2 and 3) Both of these questions are related and both answers will be given after the league decides which path we should take. There is a rule proposal open for this very topic, with a poll to vote on it, right now. Basically right now you can only bring back players on your roster for 2013 if: 1. They have a guaranteed contract in the UFBDL (must pay them the money they are owed) on any real life team 2. They are in their 1st - 6th pro seasons (in 2013) and you wish to tender them a contract at the appropriate salary on any real life team 3. They are no longer arb eligible (completed their 6th year or more in 2012) and their UFBDL contract has run out you may sign them to the average annual value of their current real life contract IF they are under contract by your real life franchise So in plain english, you currently would be allowed to keep Schierholtz only if he did not complete his 6th pro season in 2012 since he is no longer on the SF Giants. The rule proposal would allow teams to keep players on their UFBDL roster after their arb years are up, assuming they are under contract (on Dec 31st of the current year) with any real life franchise. So, go make your vote as to what you think the rule should be and then we can more thouroughly begin planning our 2013 rosters. |
