| Welcome to Tzeon. We hope you enjoy your visit. Tzeon is an entirely free-form original fantasy roleplay; it's up to the player whether they choose to get involved in the exciting worldwide plots or simply live their lives in relative peace in one of the towns or cities around the world. Joining in is simple: sign up for an account in your character's name, introduce yourself in the OOC forums, build your character's personality, history and motives, then join in a thread or one of our wider plots simply by writing your character in. Playable species include four elfin races, dwarves, centaurs, fae, half-elves, nymphs and of course humans. There are forty countries in the world, all of which are inhabited and most of which are playable; there are political factions, guilds, cities and wastelands to call home. Join us here! Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. If you're already a member please log in below to your account to access all of our features. Logging in has the handy side-effect of making this box disappear, too. |

1. The 'Play Nice' Rules 1.1: Respect your fellow players. There isn't really much to add to that. Respect other members' views, keep your IC disagreements IC, air any problems in a polite and mature manner over PM. Treat others as you'd like to be treated yourself, and we should all have a grand old time. 1.2: Age and language restrictions apply. This is a mature RP. That doesn't mean you aren't welcome if you're under 18, but please use your discretion for more adult matters. Players under 13 may be banned from the forum, especially if we discover you lied about your age when signing up. Swearing is allowed, though excessive or needless swearing OOC will get you a warning; romantic relationships are permitted and encouraged to develop if your characters wish to head that way, but graphic sexual content is expressly forbidden. 1.3: The first (and only) rule of fighting. We tend to be more focused on character interaction and development than fighting, so there isn't a formalised 'fight system' in place on the board. For the most part, the admins will trust players who wish to have a sword (or magic or gun) fight IC to play out the consequences reasonably or agree between themselves what the outcome is likely to be; however, if you need an admin to mediate a fight scene and offer their thoughts on who should be the winner, just PM one of the administrator accounts and they'll draw a reasonable conclusion based on the characters' abilities and the events so far in the scene. 2. The IC/OOC Rules 2.1: In-character actions do mean in-character consequences. Enough said, really. 2.2: In-character actions do not reflect how the player necessarily feels OOC. We hope this one goes without saying, but we're saying it anyway, just in case. A character's thoughts, feelings or actions don't necessarily mirror how the player would act or react in real life. If you take offence to a character's actions or feelings, try to remember that they're just a character. If you have a serious problem, please feel free to contact an admin to explain the problem, and we'll be happy to help. 3. The 'How's My Posting' Rules 3.1: There is no minimum word- or paragraph count. "What?" we hear you ask. "Why the heck not? Just about every other roleplay site on the net enforces a minimum word count!" The reason for this one is simple. We'd much rather see a short, well-thought-out post that gives your partner(s) something to reply to, instead of three or four paragraphs of waffle because of an arbitrary rule somewhere stating 'You must give us four paragraphs of at least three sentences every post.' Frankly, we think that's daft. Sometimes, there just isn't four paragraphs of worthwhile stuff to say. However, we do insist that each post be a considered response that drives the scene forward. We'd rather not see a one-liner along the lines of, "I don't think so," she said. Give your partner at least a bit more to work with. What we do consider acceptable would be something like, "I don't think so," she said, eyeing him up evenly. Frankly, she thought that he was talking out of his rear end, and her distaste was written clearly on her face. She folded her arms, watching him for any sign of emotion. See? That's fine. That tells us a bit about how your character's feeling, what she's thinking, and gives your partner something clear to respond to. If you want to add in more details about the scene or your character's thoughts or anything else, that's fine too -- go for it! We don't impose a maximum word count either, y'see. We just like clarity, and we think it's rather naff to go telling you that you must write a certain amount when sometimes, your muse just doesn't feel like rambling on for that long. If you feel that your scene-partner just isn't giving you enough to respond to, though, feel free to send them a polite PM opening a discussion on the matter, or ask an admin to look over the thread and give you a third-party opinion. 3.2: I'm not your English teacher. We don't expect perfect grammar and spelling all the time. Yes, everyone makes typos, and it's okay if English isn't your first language. However, netspeak, l33t and similar things are NOT acceptable, and please at least read your post over to check it makes sense. You don't have to be a published author to write a good post -- one which might be touching, entertaining, sad or a myriad of other emotions -- so don't panic if you think, "But I'm not a good writer -- I'm going to be penalised!" You're not, as long as your post has decent grammar and you make an effort with your spelling. Basically, if we can read and understand it, you're golden. 3.3: Actions speak louder than typos. Feel free (heck, you're encouraged) to make spelling or grammar corrections to any post at any time, but once another player has posted their response, you cannot change the action of the post. 3.4: But I hit you! Powerplaying or godmodding is absolutely not allowed. You can only control your own character -- for instance, you can say that your character draws his sword and moves to injure another character, but you must leave the other player the option to have her character move away, or retaliate. (An exception would be if a player has given you express permission, over PM, to say that the attack was a success). Oh, and even allowing for 4.5, remember most people aren't telepaths. If another character thinks but doesn't say something, you can't comment on it or do anything about it in your own post. React to their actions and words only. 3.5: Magical powers do not make powerplaying okay. Some magic does exist in Tzeon; please check out the other information available to find out what sorts of powers might be available to your character. However, magic powers can't be used to powerplay either, and must be played realistically -- imagine not only the good parts, but also the problems having magic may cause. 3.6: Time management is fun. Tzeon runs on relatively linear time, and so it's generally not encouraged to have one character in more than one place at a time. It only gets confusing for everyone involved! 3.7: Relationships are also fun. Arguably more than time management. The site -- though perhaps not the IC citizens; they are fully entitled to have their prejudices! -- is both het and slash-friendly; that means both male/female and male/male or female/female relationships between characters are more than welcome if both players are willing. (Saying your character is in a relationship with another player's without that player's agreement is little more than godmodding, and may get you a warning). 3.8: Fade to black. Or else. On adult matters: 'Cyber', internet sex, and ANY portrayals of sexual situations, graphic or otherwise, are NOT ALLOWED. Feel free to let your characters enter into a sexual relationship if it fits their development and plots, but please utilise a 'fade to black' scenario -- we don't need the details for it to be clear what's happened. We also don't need to hear about it the morning after in any detail, thank you. One instance of what the admins feel to be inappropriate sexual content will result in a warning; two is a ban. 4. The Rules That Don't Fit Anywhere Else (but are still important!) 4.1: One character, one account. Each character you play MUST have their own account -- the account name will be the character's name. Multiple accounts are not just allowed, but required if you wish to play more than one character! However, if you wish to play a lot of characters, please be sure you have the time and energy to sustain them all. 4.2: Ask anything. If you have questions, don't be afraid to ask! There's a help and suggestions forum you could post in, or please don't be afraid to PM an admin or moderator with your queries. We'll be glad to help. |
