The group of six sat in the cafe, lazily chatting and catching up on events. It had been some time since they'd been able to relax with one another, and it was a welcome reprieve from the typical circumstances that usually drew them together. Sunlight danced across the floor as it ascended to its peak in the early afternoon sky, its rays twinkling against the reflective glass roof above their heads. Despite the amount of light, the small bistro was cool, just comfortable enough to wear t-shirts and even a tank top.

At a side table a few booths behind the group, Tara sat hunched over with One, their voices low as giggles could be overheard from time to time. Naturally, neither older siblings bothered to check up on the laughter, as it was a welcome sign for good spirits after all that had happened over the last year. Every so often, Tara would look up, and scan her surroundings, as though to make sure no one was around to over hear, but she always found nothing and the two quickly returned to their whispers.

Meive sat with Lila on his left, and Raz on his right. The booth they sat in was a large horseshoe shape, that comfortably seated the party of six. Next to Lila sat Aeya, then Mikke, on the other side next to Raz sat Kita. The time spent there hadn't been anymore than an hour, and at the rate they were going, it would be several more before the thought of heading their separate ways was mentioned.

“So Raz, how has Aurora been doing? Are you sleeping on the couch yet?” Meive's emerald eyes watched his ruby haired friend send a dirty look his way, and couldn't help but crack a smile. Before anything else could be said, Tara suddenly popped out of nowhere, her eyes innocently focused on her older brother. Meive knew instantly that she wanted something, so he sat up straight and peered at her warily.

“Hey Meeeeeive...can One and I go to the shop next door?” Her lower lip puckered out as she gave her most convincing puppy dog look. Cringing, the older brother looked away and thought it over. He didn't particularly like the idea of letting two young girls wander the big city without adult supervision...but it was only the shop next door, “Pleeeeeeease? I won't ask for any Christmas presents! I super ultimate pinky swear!!!!” The young girl held out her pinky, and Meive had no choice but to seal it.

“Before you go anywhere, I think One needs to ask Mikke if she can go. And if you are longer than a half hour, you're never going to leave the house again...ever” Meive's eyes shined dangerously as Tara stifled an 'EEP' before nodding her head. Turning to look at her Avian friend, she could hardly contain her excitement. Everything was going as planned.

Raz narrowed his eyes (well, the one that could be seen under his bangs) dangerously at Meive, tapping his fingers smartly on his cup. Of course, his mouth was open for a smart retort when they were interrupted. Mikke looked around from gazing out the window to see the pleading forms of One and Tara, and couldn't help but smile. He was so fond of them. He listened before speaking, but then nodded, though his gaze was firmer for One. "Keep in mind what he said. And remember to keep your wings small," he added, remembering the last time he had let One wander off on her own. She had gotten so excited, she had expanded her wings and clocked someone in the head.

One burst into a smile. "No problem! C'mon," she grabbed Tara's hand, pulling her friend away. Yes, things were going according to plan! Kita watched them go, her ears flicking forward. What were they up to...? She wanted in on it! Raz caught the wistful look the Bastet had and chuckled.

"Want to go play, Kiiiita?"

"Huh? Oh, no, I'm fine," Kita said, flapping her hand at the man as she picked up her mug and took a sip.

Raz grinned, but then snapped back to Meive. That little intermission hadn't waned his attention from the previous topic. "At least I don't live on my couch, bastard," he growled. Yes, he as calling Meive lazy. A couch potato. A lazy snot. Oh so much he could pack into one tiny sentence.

Lila rolled her eyes, glancing to Aeya. As usual, Meive and Raz were entertaining.

Tara could hardly walk straight with as much as she was giggling. Things were working out just as One and her had planned. When the two girls returned, the others were certainly going to have their socks blown off. It was going to be incredible. Together, the two girls ran down the street, bursting through the doors of the enormous entertainment shop.

Meive glared at Raz for a moment, before a smirk settled onto his lips. It had been so long since they'd gotten the opportunity to just dish out insults, there was a lot of time to make up for.

“You're right, but you see, I choose to be on the couch. I don't think you have that option. It's either you're on the couch, or you're outside I'm sure. Where ever your are the least of a nuisance.” The words slid off of the young man's tongue, and he knew a whole wave of insults were going to be shot at him at any moment.

Aeya looked over to Lila and hid a chuckle behind her hand. If the two children continued, it wouldn't be long before they were wrestling and rolling around on the floor. Then they would all certainly be kicked out of the cafe, and that's not how she wanted to spend her time with old friends. So before it could go on any further the half mermaid spoke up,

“Now children, if you two continue to bicker on like this you're going to get us kicked out. Can we not just wait to do this later? In a place where rough housing is more appropriate?”

Meive looked over to the young woman, a heavy sigh escaping his lips. Unfortunately, she was right, although he really didn't want to admit it. For now, the two men would be at a truce, but when the right time came, words were definitely going to go flying.

The group remained silent for a few minutes, each stuck in their own thoughts. Meive could tell only fifteen minutes had past since his younger sister's departure with her new best friend, and the sudden jingling of the cafe door bursting open let him know that the two girls were back.

In less than five seconds, the young breathless girls were standing at the side of the table, cheeks flushed and hands on knees. They had run the whole way back, not stopping for anything. Finally, Tara stood up, her eyes staring intensely at Aeya. The young woman watched, the hair on the back of her neck standing on end, which told her that something bad was about to happen. Trying to soothe the ominous feeling, she grabbed her cup of tea and began sipping it, all the while keeping her suspicious gaze trained on the girl in front of her.

“So...One and I found out that there was this really cool singing contest coming, and we really really really wanted to enter it. Since we practically know the Chocolate Disco song by heart, all we would really need to do was learn the moves from you Aeya—” Meive's eyes shot to the woman accusingly, his finger pointing at her.

“You're the one who gave her that song?! Have you any idea how many times a day I hear that high pitched singing? I wake up singing that song!” Aeya's wide sapphire eyes just stared at him. A moment passed by before she narrowed them and placed her cup back on the table.

“It isn't my fault that Tara loves the song. I didn't tell her to play it over and over again. So I think you should put that finger away before someone gets hurt.” Tara stood there and watched the two fight, although rare, the two of them would bicker like siblings, which Tara always found amusing. But it was difficult to watch at that moment in time, with the exciting, super awesome news she was bursting to tell. As the friends continued to snap back and forth at one another, Tara could finally hold it in no longer,

“I entered you guys in the singing contest!!!” The words immediately silenced everyone at the table as all eyes stared at her stunned.

Sparks were about to fly. Raz's glare only continued to increase as Meive kept opening that annoying mouth of his, spewing out nonsense that only made him get more and more ticked off. "Oh, really? I'll have you know that--" but, of course, he was cut off. Again. He shot a look at Aeya, about to protest, but caught Lila's supporting expression and leaned back in his spot, closing his mouth with a snap. Women! But his expression was clear--this was far from over!

Lila kept her gaze on Raz until she was certain the fire-tongue wasn't going to continue, then winked at Aeya. When the young ones burst back in, she grinned around the rim of her cup. This ought to be good.

Oh, it was.

Raz was just as displeased as Meive, if not more so. As Meive pointed at Aeya, Mikke looked at her, then chuckled. "Yes, that would explain a lot--what?" His gaze whipped back to the girls, his eyes widening.

They were...were...what?

Kita beamed, clapping her hands in excitement. "Awesome! What are we signed up for?!"

One grinned, but then blinked as Raz's stormy expression and cleared her throat. "Oh, come on, we could all use some fu--"

Raz got to his feet, hands planted firmly on the table. His glare really was like fire. "No."

"Now now, let's not take out our wittle temper twantum out on the other kids," Lila spoke out, both mocking and teasing. It was successful; Raz's anger was now piercing at her. She ignored him and smiled at the girls. "What's the prize?"

Tara was thankful for Lila's distraction, as Raz's scary gaze turned away from the two girls. In a split second, the excitement returned full force, as she was almost bouncing with energy.

“Well, you see, when One and I looked at the rules, it said you had to be 18 years or older to sign up. So immediately we thought that we could sign Aeya up cuz she's got a really pretty voice,” Tara smiled from ear to ear. Aeya however felt the redness climbing up her face. There was no way she could sing in front of a crowd, she could hardly sing in front of friends, “But then we knew that she would never go by herself, so we thought that with everyone there there'd be a better chance. But then the group sizes could only be up to four people, so we had to make teams—boys and girls. Oh, and we were going to sign you guys up to sing the Chocolate Disco song, but one of the rules said that you were only able to sing songs that you spoke the language too.” Tara took a deep breath as her lungs burnt from speaking all the air out of them. Aeya let out a heavy sigh as she was at least glad she wouldn't be forced to sing that song. That would have been too much. Before anyone else could speak, Tara took another deep breath and continued on,

“So we thought it would be great, because Aeya know's this cool music guy who she's done some songs and music for, and we know he's going to help because One and I called him and he thought it was a great idea and offered to give you all a place to practice and for you to borrow his costume designers. Oh, and what you have to do is sing four songs as a group, and then one song as either a duet or solo. And the teams are boys and girls—did I say that already? I can't remember. This is going to be so FUN!!” The young girl was almost blue in the face, and as she once again had to stop and pull herself together, Aeya quickly regained the ability to speak,

“Tara, I'm not doing this, please, how do we pull ourselves out of the contest?” Even with the help of her friend Tarvin, she didn't have the guts to sing with other people. Tara looked at her for a moment as if she wasn't sure what to say, but a slightly devious smile flashed across her lips.

“You can't! The deadline to pull out and sign up has already passed, that's why One and I had to leave so quickly! But Aeya, you're going to love it. And you're definitely going to win, and Kita wants to do it, and Lila seems okay with it too. Mr. Tarvin says he'd help you cuz he knows how shy you are, so there's nothing to be scared of. Ppppppleeeease Aeya? Pretty please? I'll never ask you for anything ever again...EVER!!” Tara pulled her best puppy eyes, and pouty face. Meive immediately looked away, as he knew better than to stare into that face for too long. He already knew he was stuck doing this devious plan, Aeya on the other hand seemed more resilient...but finally her shoulders fell as her head fell to rest on the edge of the table. A quiet fine could be heard from her direction, and Tara instantly jumped in the air. Grabbing a hold of One, the two girls danced in circles for several minutes. This was going to be AWESOME, never in a million years did Tara think this plan would actually, really work out. It was the best day of her life!!

Lila listened with perhaps the most calm out of all her comrades, but more often than not, caught Raz's gaze and held it. She didn't have to speak to warn him to cool the heck down. She understood his anger, and having been rubbed the wrong way before the big news, it was just enough to make him stew more. But after a few long moments, Raz sat back down, resigned. He still looked irritated, no doubt. When the speaking was done and One and Tara were jumping around, the starship captain took a good sip from her cup before speaking over to them.

"So, that means Aeya, Kita, and I are on a team. Then Raz, Mikke and Meive? That isn't exactly a group of four, unless one of us older girls are out so you to can both be in on it? How exactly are you planning these groups?"

The explanation had been so fast, perhaps she hadn't caught it. But it would be good to know if there was a possibility of escape.

Tara looked over to Lila, her hyperness buried for only a few minutes to speak,

“Well, I think I said before, the contesters have to be 18 years or older to be in it, and even if we were old enough, we already signed you guys up and the deadline to change anything is over,” Her eyes looked over to Aeya's defeated form, as her small hands came to rest on the older woman's shoulder, “Don't worry you guys, One and I have worked this thing out perfectly, the only thing you all have to do is find some songs, practice them and Mr. Tarvin will take care of the rest!”

At the mention of Tarvin's name, Aeya's head shot up, her eyes glaring at the wall behind the booth, “I am going to get him. We'll see if I ever help him out again...the little sneak...”

“Ok, so it looks like you guys are done with your drinks, so I think we should go over to Mr. Tarvin's studio and start practicing!! Let's DO it!!!” The excitement that exuded from the two girls was overwhelming. Tara grabbed Aeya's hand and began attempting to pull her from her seat. At first the half-mermaid thought she would resist, but thinking better of it, allowed the young girl to pull her to her feet. Meive would have burst out laughing had the situation been any different. With this in mind, he turned his gaze over to Mikke.

“Our sisters are never allowed to do anything by themselves again.”

Lila smiled as the two girls began to spazz out again. Well, if it meant this much to them...why not? She finished her drink and stood, showing everyone out of the booth until they were all standing. "The sooner we get this over with, the better, aye?" she said, giving them a friendly wink. "Never mind Aeya will beat all of us in the 'who has a better voice' department...but I bet I can sing better than the rest of you," Lila said, hands tucking into her pockets as she began to stroll casually away.

Of course, the challenge sparked Raz up right away, which was obvious that had been what the captain had been going for in the first place. "Oh, really?!"

"Really," Lila called over her shoulder, then motioned for One and Tara to lead the way.

Mikke sighed, his wings drooping, and he nodded at Meive's assessment. "Agreed."

Aeya dragged her feet as she barely kept up with the rest of the group. Tara and One were of course leading the way as they stepped into the studio, “Mr. Tarvin! We've for your help!” The studio itself was huge, and well lit, with records, and musical equipment decorating the walls and floor in various spots. Furniture littered open areas adding another modern element. Before the group had even managed to enter the lobby area, a tall thin woman with a tight blonde bun appeared out of no where and blocked their way.

“Excuse me, but do any of you have an appointment with Mr. Miltus? Because you will not be able to go any further otherwise.” The girls halted in their tracks, as everyone stared at the intimidating lady. She was obviously the secretary, and the idea of just marching past her without speaking a word appeared to have insulted her a great deal, which explained her rudeness to them now. Even still, Aeya was annoyed. At that point in time, all she wanted to do was give Tarvin a piece of her mind, and she was going too, as soon as she got done with this lady. She hadn't even been around the times the half-mermaid had been there before, so her sudden appearance was not helping the situation. Gracefully, Aeya moved around her friends and in front of the two stunned girls.

Looking up into the woman's face, she returned the cold look, “You tell Tarvin that Aenxye is here, and we'll see if an appointment is necessary. Otherwise, I will walk back there and the only way you will stop me is if you can run after me in those stilettos. And somehow, I don't think you're going to want to scuff them up.”

Dumbfounded, the woman stood there wide eyed. With this as her signal, Aeya turned, glanced back at then young girls and motioned for them to follow her. It took only a few more seconds before the young woman burst into the recording section of the studio. Immediately, a chair twisted around, and a tall medium built young man was on his feet. His surprise was instantly heightened at the realization of who it was...and the expression she wore.

“...Aeya! I wasn't expecting you here so soon....and judging from the dangerously furious expression on your face I would say that the girls have shared—”

“Yes, real funny huh? There are plenty of singers out there looking for an opportunity to make it big, and I can guarantee that most of them have a better voice, but you want to put me on stage in front of thousands of people just so I can overcome my shyness?” Oh, she was angry. Beyond that. Almost in a rage. She didn't aim it at the girls, because they didn't fully understand it all, but Tarvin did, and she knew that he had probably encouraged the idea, if not provided the idea itself. He was forcing her out of her comfort zone and she did not like it. At all.

Meive watched the torrent of anger pulsating away from the young woman. Normally, he would have tried to calm her, but he worried that in this case, he would get caught in the cross fire and end up with serious injuries. If this Tarvin guy knew her at all, then hopefully he could handle it enough to at least come out alive. Because it took a lot to get the half-mermaid angry—even more to get her furious like now—but when she did, the best thing to do was to take cover and wait for the storm to ride over...
