1.5GB cap coming to Net10 March 1st. Looks like Net10 will be capping data on AT&T SIM cards at 1.5GB, but will not cap T-Mobile based SIM cards. https://net10data.com/ |

It wouldn't surprise me that this announcement of capping data on NET10 AT&T SIM cards is related to the disappearance of AT&T SIM cards from both the NET10 and the Straight Talk websites. It will be interesting to see whether AT&T forces Straight Talk into making a similar announcement. I felt that there has been something going on behind the scenes between America Movil and AT&T, once the first reports surfaced at the end of January. (See the Tracfone & Net10 Topics Forum thread, "Is Tracfone Breaking Up with AT&T?" http://s1.zetaboards.com/Turk/topic/5056922/1/#new, for more info.) But, time will tell. And, Sweeper, without a doubt, you are better at uncovering these breaking phone stories than all of the phone news outlets put together! Not a peep out of any of them yet. ShadowDancer

Sweeper has actually been cited on Wontek.com a few times now as the source for the articles. I hear he gets a $5000 check for each story he breaks there.

I wish... Actually, All I have ever wanted was the shout out that they give me for dropping the information on them. If I remember correctly, after I gave the tip about the Huawei Windows phone, they made me an honorary member of Wontek. You won’t find many people who love cell phones as much as I do. |

* Thanks to everyone above for all this new SIM card info ..... hmmmm, no more so called "unlimited" for AT&T folks... * Well, if AT&T is gonna put a cap on their service, you know sure well that T-Mobile will do the same down the road. * What about Verizon, what kind of cap do they have for Straight Talk and Net10 phones? (I can't seem to recall) * Will Straight Talk still call their service "unlimited" now? ... or will they just put in fine print on the back of the airtime * card... "unlimited, except for AT&T customers". (LOL) * All these networks are now restructuring and focusing on their unlimited plans/service ... so I wouldn't be surprised * if one day they all tell Straight Talk to take a hike.. AT&Turk

Turk --I read a rumor elsewhere, and it could be nothing more than someone's wishful thinking, that the reason that AT&T insisted on a data cap was because it was going to be opening up its 4G LTE network to some of the smartphones. Then, the rumor continued that the reason that T-Mobile hasn't instituted a data cap is because it has the most un- developed 4G network of all of the major carriers. So, at the present time, a data cap was a non-issue with T-Mobile. As I said, this rumor may be nothing more than that --A RUMOR. But, I was wondering whether anyone else here on the Forum has read or heard a similar story?? . . . Thoughts?? --------------------------- At the same time, it appears that Sprint is in the process of opening up its 4G LTE network to its MVNOs, as both Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile just days ago announced that they are acquiring 4G LTE phones to add to their offerings. (See "Boost, Virgin Mobile get first LTE smartphones" under Other Prepaids & Cell Phone News: http://s1.zetaboards.com/Turk/topic/4800958/2/, in Other Cell Topics/News Forum. And, what about Verizon? It's probably still gagging over the fact that it has MVNO smartphones running on its 3G network now. Has anyone heard of Verizon opening up its 4G LTE network?. . .Heck, Verizon would probably like to limit MVNO operators and their customers to its 1X (2G) network permanently. And, that brings me to Sweeper's discovery of the Samsung Galaxy S III S960L on the Straight Talk website. If the "L" in the model number does indeed stand for "LTE," as Sweeper suggested, just whose 4G LTE network will Straight Talk's first 4G LTE phone run on? . . . Food for thought. ShadowDancer

A good deal of the information in this article we already know. However, if you read to the bottom, Phonenews.com did receive a statement directly from NET10's PR Agency regarding the new data cap that went into effect today, March 1st . . . NET10 to Cap AT&T SIM Customers to 1.5GB Starting March 1st (UPDATED REPORT) Tracfone has opened a webpage for NET10 customers centering on forthcoming changes to its data service for customers using AT&T powered devices and BYOD SIM cards. As of March 1st, Net10 customers using an AT&T- powered SIM card on its BYOD service or an AT&T-powered device will now be capped to a monthly limit of 1.5GB . . . http://www.phonenews.com/net10-to-cap-att-sim-customers-to-1-5gb-starting-march-1st-22480/ ShadowDancer

Was asked to post this... http://wontek.com/news/net10-official-statment-data-changes At NET10 Wireless, we strive to offer the best product and services to all of our consumers. Customers currently on the AT&T network will have the option to switch to a 4G LTE T-Mobile SIM and continue their service on the unlimited data plan through T-Mobile. T-Mobile will offer a total experience to our Net10 Wireless customers with nationwide coverage and 4G LTE internet speeds. This data plan change for NET10’s ”Bring Your Own Phone” (BYOP) AT&T compatible SIM does not affect any other NET10 service or TracFone brand, including Straight Talk Wireless. The change to a 1.5 gigabyte (GB) capped plan for customers who select an AT&T compatible SIM will not impact the majority of NET10 AT&T BYOP SIM customers. However, all NET10 AT&T BYOP SIM customers are being notified of the change in the data plan and the option to convert to the 4G LTE T-Mobile SIM, at no cost. NET10 customers who have been identified as routinely exceeding 1.5 GB a month will be given a one-time opportunity to receive at no charge a 4G LTE T-Mobile SIM in order to switch to unlimited NET10 BYOP data via T-Mobile. NET10 is an excellent value for consumers and will remain so... We are constantly looking for ways to improve our service. NET10 expects to continue evolving in the coming months. Our focus is on providing the best possible value to our customers and making sure that they fully understand all aspects of what we offer to them. NET10 is all about better wireless for less. |

* This doesn't surprise me one bit ...... as the old saying goes: "money talks, BS walks". * I bet Tracfone Inc. threw some more money at AT&T and that solved everything..... end of story. * Or as the Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase always says: "everyone has a price" ... I guess Trac Inc. found AT&T's price. * Ted Dibiase --> http://headside.files.wordpress.com/2013/06/ted-dibiase-money-money-money-money.jpg Million Dollar Turk

Turk --I'd have to say that you are undoubtedly "right on the money." The other day I came across an obscure tidbit about America Movil which I thought you'd be interested... America Movil selects the phones which it brings to market based on which carrier is offering them the cheapest access rates to its particular Network at that particular time. So, if you suddenly see a slew of, say, CDMA phones being offered, which work on Sprint, then you know that Sprint was offering the least expensive access rates. . . . Bottom line: for America Movil, it's apparently all about the cheapest. But, with the AT&T SIM cards, perhaps this in one time when that strategy didn't work. ShadowDancer

Straight Talk and Net10 Officially Adopt More Transparent Data Policies http://www.phonenews.com/straighttalk-and-net10-officially-adopt-more-transparent-data-policies-24027/ After almost 2 years of vague behavior regarding monthly data access while advertising under unlimited terminology in sales collateral when referring to data access, and even falling under a recent class action, Straight Talk and sibling brand Net10 will now operate under new data access terms and conditions, which include explicit monthly access and throttling. The Terms and Conditions for Net10: "30 day Unlimited Plans include 2.5 GB of high speed data per 30 day cycle. After 2.5 GB, your data speed will be reduced for the remainder of the 30 day cycle. High speed data is restored once a new 30 day service plan is added. Other limitations, terms and conditions of service apply. NET10 reserves the right to terminate your service for unauthorized or abnormal usage." The same terms also apply to the $60 International Unlimited plan on Straight Talk and both $50/$65 monthly Net10 unlimited service plans as well, with speeds being throttled to 2G speeds after the first 2.5 GB in a month. With the confirmation of the changes, these are now in immediate effect for both current customers and new customers from today onward. While no specific reasoning was given for the changes, the new data access policies did not mention specific carriers, and the changes officially apply across all devices and BYOD services offered on both brands. What is also unknown is what exactly triggered the shift in policy, whether it was the move to offer LTE or the Straight Talk class action from earlier this year. With the addition of explicit data usage policies going forward, this will lead to less complaints about the lack of transparency regarding data access limits and may even get more people to reconsider Straight Talk and Net10, especially with the recent addition of LTE support on AT&T SIM cards and the rumored addition of Verizon LTE access with new devices expected in the coming weeks. However, while the new changes may sound good and address the most consistent complaint levied against the brands, the biggest variable at the moment is the execution of the changes, and that remains to be seen. Now, was that so hard for them to do? ... Everyone else, and I mean EVERYONE else just told you this information from the get go. I like the direction AM is going. They are adopting better business practices as they grow. And with the competition they face in the market place, they almost have change if they want to continue to grow. Glad to see they are smart enough to finally catch on. |

I looked at Net10 and the only way it is worthwhile is if you walk around with the phone glued to your ear all day. Plus, their refill cards only last 30 days. If you need unlimited talk and text, the other carriers' prepaid plans are a much better value. |
