Muddy, are you saying that you don't have to have the cheesy phone that safelink provides in order to get the
free safelink minutes?... I recently found out that assurancewireless.com has the exact same requirements as
safelink yet they give 250 minutes a month just like Safelink, except, and this is a big except -- additional minutes
are cheaper by 20 %. 250 additional minutes is just $5 and those minutes can carry over since they're purchased,
but the others they give away free are not carried over.

That's more than what safelink provides. Can you tell me the process you used to do this? - I'm a bit perplexed.
I know some elderly who could benefit from this kind of plan but don't want to have to give up their phones that
they know how to use... I can sure identify with that!!

Thanks, Patti

Safelink rules have changed...

Got a text today from Safelink.

Safelink rules have changed. Use ur phone to call someone at least once per month & stay active.

No other information or explanation was in the text.

I am posting this here because Safelink runs on Tracfone phones.

Good post, thanks for keeping on top of Safelink for us annepani...

The Feds might have put Lifeline assisted phone companies up to it. If the recipient is no longer with us,
then no need to keep paying the phone company for the reminder of the subsidy period.

They are pulling funds anyway from, subsidized voice phone service and putting it towards subsidizing broadband.

I use Safelink... the phone they give you is sucky.

Just bought me an LG 800g and got my minutes transferred, nice phone.

I get the 250 min. per month, they rollover. I never use the whole 250.

Safelink has Improved Texting Rates for all Options

Safelink, which uses Tracfone phones exclusively (except for some areas of Texas where Safelink runs on
Net10 phones), markedly improved its texting rates effective Dec 3, 2012. These new rates are published at
http://www.safelink.com at the bottom of the page in Terms and Conditions. Really small mice type.

The former texting rate was 1.0 minute per text send/receive for all Options. The new rates are:

Option 1 -- 68 minutes per month w/ rollover, UNLIMITED FREE TEXTING send/receive
Option 2 -- 125 minutes per month w/ rollover, 0.10 minutes send/receive (10 times as many texts as previous rate)
Option 3 -- 250 minutes per month no rollover*, 0.20 minutes send/receive (5 times as many texts as previous rate)

* If you add airtime once every 3 months, the minutes will rollover.

Anyone who does mostly texting and very little voice or MMS would do well to take a second look at Option 1.
Remember that if you need some extra voice or MMS minutes from time to time, you can purchase them at Safelink
rates. And if your phone has DMFL or TMFL, the Safelink minutes will double or triple, and will also rollover if unused.

Androids might be coming to SafeLink?

Hi Guys. It is possible that SafeLink may be getting Androids and other smartphones beginning with the LG L34C.
Here's why I think this... I was looking around the Tracfone tutorial for the L34C and noticed a panel that had all 5
America Movil companies showing on the same screen - Straighttalk, Net10, Tracfone, TelcelAmerica and SafeLink.

After the Tracfone tutorial, I went to the Net10 and StraightTalk tutorials and they came up the same way. I then tried
the Telcel America tutorial but it isn't posted yet. And SafeLink doesn't have tutorials.

Remember that I was the one who first posted that Tracfone would be getting Androids. I spotted a small unobtrusive
icon at the bottom of the Buy Airtime page that said "for Tracfone Androids only." That is all I was going on. I posted it
and one week later they were selling.

Well now I spot SafeLink listed with the other four Tracfone companies (America Movil, really) so I think that it might
actually be coming true. And soon. Fingers crossed.

* annepani .... thanks for the latest news / info above...

* Yeah, I'm wouldn't be surprised if SafeLink does end up getting some android phones as well.

* I think smartphones/androids are the future ... and in time most people will have a smartphone at some point.

* And I'm sure the Government would like for everyone to eventually have a smartphone, so they can spy on us. (lol) ;)

Hopefully by the time SafeLink can be used for some Android devices, there will be a good sale on them.
(I want to pay less than $100, preferably $60 or less like I did with my LG 840g when I first bought it last year)

Having a mobile device that can be used with mPerks and the such will save me money over the long haul.

The LG Dynamic has been available for $19.99 ($24.99 in white) from shopcelldeals on ebay for at least a month.
New, not reconditioned and price includes shipping, no sales tax.

And there are other deals around.

Everything about these cheap android phones seems good but the camera quality, though I'd expect even that
won't be an issue in the months or years ahead if Tracfone brings out better and better devices. :D

I don't expect iPhone or S3+ camera quality, but anything that's miles better than the lg840g (with a decent optical
image stabilization, my hands are a little shaky) would be nice.

Are these 3mp cameras in these phones better than what I have? Sorry for asking too many questions.

You won't find anything remotely "miles better" with tracfone's current android offerings.

I've had the LG 840G (still have, actually), the Centura, and now the Valet. Of the three, the Valet has the best camera,
but not by much... I have been able to take a picture of a check and have my bank process it, but it took MANY tries
before I got a clear enough image.

What can help is to download an app like Aviary for photo processing. There are also other camera apps available.
I no longer use the stock camera app and use Camera FV-5. It offers a ton of options to take better pictures.

So, while the cameras aren't the greatest, there are things you can do to capture images better.

Regarding cameras on cell phones the sensor is so small on most cell phone cameras that they can't even hope to take a decent picture except in the most perfect of circumstances. I would recommend carrying a separate camera such as the slim waterproof/shockproof phones from Sony if you take a lot of pictures on the go. These cameras theoretically could be slipped into your back pocket and should survive that use (it is certainly small enough to be slipped into even the smallest purses). Even the lens is protected by a sliding cover that you slide down to turn on and back up to turn off.

You could also try a small camera from Sony or Canon where the lens retracts into the camera and an automatic lens cover covers the lens window but I cannot vouch for the durability if you put it in your back pocket and sit down -- it would work fine for a purse phone, though. About the only cell phone camera I have seen that takes decent pictures (although any mainline digital camera should still be able to beat the picture quality, I think it is 8MP) is the one on the Samsung Android phones and it is awkward to use (my sister has one) -- but the phone costs $400 so you could buy a cheaper Android phone (about $100) and a separate carry-around camera (the new Sony compact is about $80, they have a waterproof/shockproof camera on their website for $129 and $199).

There is also the Amazon option for purchasing a used camera, I just bought my compact camera on there for about $40 and a spare battery, charger and computer transfer cord for $20 more. The camera is from 2010 but works great (although my full size camera does beat it just a bit in picture quality but I can't slip that one in my pocket). Any mainline brand of digital camera (Sony, Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Fujifilm, Olympus) has image stabilization nowadays from the cheap $69 camera on up.

I see what you're getting at with the small sensor on camera phones. I remember my 1st camera phone having a craptastic .3mp camera.

Here's 3 cheers to progress for Tracfone. I can't wait till the next-gen of their offerings!

(as for mharris127, I'll definitely keep an eye out on Amazon. Thanks dude!)

* The Dord .... that's ok you asked and bumped this thread, that's what these topics are here for.
* To answer your question... no, I haven't heard or seen anything new about this...

* Last time I looked and saw anything about androids coming to Safelink was about 3 months ago, and it was from
* people across the internet complaining about why Safelink doesn't allow androids yet?!

* So since then, I don't think there is anything new out about that... but others can chime in if they know anything else.
* Ps: I do get Safelink junk-mail from time to time, and it shows pictures of only cheap basic phones so far in their mail.

What is your phone model?

For the past year or so, Safelink has given 1000 free texts. Once you hit the 1000 text limit, texts automatically
deduct from the voice allotment without any action on your part. The system just automatically does it.

Are you saying that the text said you now get unlimited as opposed to 1000 text limit?

Maybe Safelink (Tracfone) is giving unlimited text to compete with Assurance Wireless (Virgin Mobile).
Both are participants in the government's Lifeline program.
My daughter has an Assurance Wireless phone and they started providing unlimited text recently.

Yes, Safelink improvements come in stages and you have to wait a while for changes. Some posters have said you could get service transferred to better feature phones.

Think the states have a say in how Lifeline is administered, so not all states may allow smartphones - at least yet. The California example is a precedent that may break the old handset restrictions. A few pioneers may be able to get a smartphone on Safelink even though Safelink claims you can't do it. This happened with BYOP, where users were months ahead of Tracfone in doing it.

Maybe only Tracfone branded phones at first. Then BYOP?

Free smartphone, unlimited talk and text + 500 MB data per month. Eligible if income is less than $25,700 a year.
This is poverty? Half the state does not make that much.

Could the SIM be moved from the Pixi Glitz to a better phone? Mmm.......

I helped my uncle switch his service over to a Nokia Lumia 640 Windows 8.1 OS Cell phone.

This phone will also let you upgrade it to Windows 10 which has a lot more bells and whistles.

The phone was an AT&T Go Phone. If left at windows 8.1 and you don't use an email account the phone will go days on one charge!

I'm going to try and add a $10 Tracfone data card tomorrow.

Added a $10 Tracfone data card to the Safelink Moto E. No problems.

I've been searching all over the TF site for the 350 minutes for $10 option and I can't find it.

Is it only available by calling TF? ... Can you use promo codes with this?

No such option on Tracfone.com that I've ever seen.

The 350 minute plan is on Safelink. The $10 is to add 1GB of data.

I went on Tracfone Chat a couple days ago to get a SIM card for an LG 840g feature phone that I have here. I tried to tell the rep that I wanted an AT&T SIM card.
Rep kept telling me that they could not determine what system the phone would be until I activate it. So after a while rep said they were sending me a SIM card.

When I got the email confirmation it said it was sending me a Safelink TMO SIM. I have no idea where that came from as I never mentioned Safelink.
I assume I can use it in the LG 840g, but I don't know anything about Safelink. I was getting the SIM to sell the phone with anyways.

I guess I need to go fishing in Chat again and see if I can get what I need next time.

"Safelink has sent an e-mail for a special minute/days promotion.. You MAY be able to use it multiple times.

Now you can get 350 Minutes and 30 days for only $10.00! "

Going through Safelink takes you to TF's site. The only option is 30 mins for $9.99, which is not the same.
Do I have to call to buy this 350 min plan to my Safelink phone?

Do any promo codes work with this plan? Or are promo codes not available when buying airtime for Safelink (it's all made thru TF)

Searching the Internet for "Safelink 350 minutes $10", I found some discussions pointing to this "secret" link:
https://www.tracfone.com/direct/350minutes

==> NOTE: copy that link and go to it from a new tab/page. When I clicked on it from within Turk Forum, it got re-directed to Tracfone home page.

I don't know if it works since I don't have a Safelink phone.

Thank you, Hpham! That address actually works, although I wound up having to type it in. (Copying & pasting took me to the front page of the TF site.)
I don't know why it's so darn hard to find that page! I've had to call in to TF CS before, which I abhore. Also, no place to put a promo code, so that answers that question.
