* Please use this Topic to post information or questions regarding Apps for Tracfone/Net10 Android phones - thanks.
* And if you want to post about appropriate/good apps that you've found for your phone, you can do it in this thread.

Net10 now offers one free app on Google Play for Net10 customers who use Android phones.

You can check out the app below . . .

The first Android app for Net10 is for International calling:

Net10 International: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.auris.dialer&hl=en

Eventually, Net10 may launch additional apps for its Android customers, but to date, it has only made this one available.

If you're looking for a texting app on Google Play, you might want to look at TextPlus. It is an Editor's Choice app.

The basic TextPlus app is free. It is easy to download and to register. You will receive your own phone number to run
the app. A basic text message (SMS) on TextPlus is 250 characters rather than the standard 160 characters on most
phones. The app does offer calling. But, I suspect that it's not great, and calling does cost money... I have never tried
calling with the app. I simply turn the calling function off. . .You can also send photos (MMS) with this app. But, I don't
think the app sends the receiver the actual photo but rather a link to the photo on the app's website.

There are other texting apps on Google Play. I usually download and try apps that are the most popular and that have
the highest satisfaction rating among users.

I just posted in the ZTE Valet phone topic if anyone would be interested in apps for android phones.

This is great... I can't wait to see what apps people are using on their phones.

Here's some I use on my Nexus 7 2 tablet, I'm sure they'll work on the phones...

Battery widget, it gives a real accurate count on your battery life:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.elvison.batterywidget

If you live in an area with bad weather, this is a good one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wdtinc.android.stormshield

Avast has a great anti-virus + I think you can program it for anti-theft:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.avast.android.mobilesecurity

I have this launcher on my tablet, it took a bit getting used to but I love it now (there's videos on YouTube for it too)
I use the free version and it covers enough:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher

If you like to play games, I've become totally addicted to this one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.erdenkriecher.magicalchemisthalloween

You can spend days going through all the stuff that Google play has.

In the event that anyone missed tfuser19's announcements which he posted in other Forum threads, there is
now a Tracfone My Account app available for downloading on Google Play. Here is the link:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tracfone.tracfone.myaccount&hl=en

Be aware, however, that some who have downloaded this app have reported experiencing some problems with it.
So, there are apparently a few bugs that still need to be worked out in the app.

I agree. It would be nice to have links in the Android phone threads to announce the "Apps for Androids" thread.

Perhaps, Turk could place the link to this thread at the top of each new page in the Android phone threads?
Just wondering if it would be possible, Turk, and not too much extra work for you.

The app I use: Advanced Mobile Care (all-in-one security) from Google Play.

Also, although I almost never play games, the one I'm addicted to is Bejeweled Blitz from Google Play.
I try to limit myself to no more than 20 minutes a day.

I also like Zedge for free ringtones.

Also I wanted to add that if you do a long press on home icon (arrow) on the Centura, it'll bring up all your
recently opened apps; to get rid of 'em, swipe to left of screen.

I tried the Tracfone app on Sat or Sun and Monday and it just hung at "loading"... I had to get out of that screen
and promptly uninstalled the app. When I used the app on Sat or Sunday (don't remember which day I installed
it), it stayed at loading screen and refreshing that I got out of that screen. About 2 hours later, I got 8 texts giving
my balance (that's when I shut the phone off and rebooted it; got 2 more texts and stopped. Maybe they fixed the
bug but I just use the browser to check my balance.

When I transferred/ported from old Centura to new Centura online on Monday, everything transferred correctly
and my new phone was activated in like maybe 10 minutes. I noticed there were additional instructions like dial
*22890 and even said "star" 22890. ha ha ha.

I tried setting up my voicemail on my new phone but didn't have to, it was already set up from my old one.

I, too, like Zedge, especially for its large selection of wallpapers:

I use the free version of Lookout Security & Antivirus to protect my unit:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lookout&hl=en

When I was dieting, I used the free MyFitnessPal app. With the app, I was able to figure out the correct number
of calories per day for my diet; I was able to graph my weight loss; I could keep a daily food diary, I was able to
keep track of calories burned through exercise, etc. In fact, in a recent survey, this app and its website was more
popular for weight loss than Weight Watchers:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.myfitnesspal.android&hl=en

I like WiFi Finder by JiWire, Inc to locate Wi-Fi hotspots:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jiwire.android.finder&hl=en

And, after trying out several gasoline price apps that included GasBuddy and the Coupons App, I have found Gas
Guru
’s station prices to be the most accurate/up-to-date for gasoline prices in my area. I use this app constantly:

I'm not a fan of texting but I am now! I'm obsessed with Swiftkey! It really is amazing. It's 3.99 but you're able to
try it out for 30 days. Best 4 dollar spent.

Also, try Puffin Web Browser. It is super fast and is able to play flash websites. My code for free extra 4 weeks is:
xgmmizizkfapb .. (when you first install and open this app on your phone you'll get a screen that tells you that you
have 13 days left of trial. when you scroll down that screen it gives you a spot to put in a reference code which will
extend your and mine trial period extra 4 weeks) Or you could just pay 2.99 for this app.

Let me know how you like these apps.

I mentioned before but I'm liking NoLED more and more: I like it that I don't have to wake the screen to know that
my phone is charged and that I have missed calls!

To text for free on wifi, or using data instead of your text bucket (texts consume very little data), you can use:
Google Voice, Viber, Skype, Whatsapp, and several others. These are among the most popular, but you may
be able to discover more in the Play Store.

You need a "NoLED" app for the Centura? ... The ZTE Valet has a built in notifier LED on the top front screen.
The LED is red when charging and then turns to green when fully charged, the LED blinks to indicate missed
calls or texts or emails. The ZTE just looks better and better.

My ZTE just needs a small clip-on antennae to increase the Wi-Fi range beyond 40 feet. :(
I have a Norton Account and so downloaded the free Norton Mobile Security app from Google Play. Works great.

I also like the free "MO+GV phone" app from Google Play. It lets me make FREE Wi-Fi phone calls and FREE texts
from the ZTE Valet using my FREE Google Voice account from whenever I have Wi-Fi. The calls are clear as long
as the upload and download Wi-Fi bandwidth speeds are each at least 35kbps. Other Wi-Fi phone apps that I tried
like the Obion phone app wouldn't work with so little bandwidth.

Don't need no stinkin' TF minutes. ;)
It boggles my mind that Tracfone would release uncrippled Android phones. I'd like to take a peek at their new
business model.

Well, anyone who wants to make wifi calls already has that option without Tracfone being involved at all. This way,
they do you get to buy minutes from them as a backup anyway. I guess ignoring what's going on doesn't help their
business, but adapting to it is smart. Besides, a lot of Tracfone customers may not have wifi often (like at home), or
don't use enough minutes for it to be worth the hassle (for those who are technophobes), but still want a smart phone.

They may lose some minutes of usage from wifi calling, but it's better than losing a customer completely.

I have used a couple of different wifi calling apps, but don't consider myself an expert by any stretch.
I have used Skype and Viber mostly, but was always calling others who also had that app.
Are there many apps that allow you to call anyone, even those who don't have the app, or for calling landlines?

I installed the MO + app and have used it to call landlines and cells, as well as to text last night and today (using
google voice). It works really well. I was told I sounded very good. I could hear the other people clearly as well.
Perhaps not quite as clear as a regular voice call but very close.

This app is a beta app for now, so I'm not sure how it may change as they work on it.
Does anyone else have any voip apps that have free calls without the other party having the app?

Here is an article about how to use less data on android. It mentions several different browsers you can
download in the app store that may use less than the stock browser... Also contain good tips in general,
especially one about not clearing the cache.

Tarkio101:
I wish I read that article about "cache" yesterday; I cleared my cache for the native browser and it just would
not load but I think I got it working by clearing data. (I did this because whenever I was checking my balance
it kept giving me the error message. It was working great where all I had to do was "check my balance" and it
remembered my phone# and all I had to do was submit but it started acting strage and that screen went away.)
Anyway, clearing the data on the browser, so far, has resolved my problem; my preferred way to check my
balance.

Anyway, back to the topic: Have you tried "MagicJack" app? It works great and it's actually free. You're able
to call your friends and family anywhere in US and they don't have to have MagicJack. You can call their cell,
landline, etc. Only thing is you can't call businesses that have automated prompts.

There're many people complaining because they can't get out of the app and only way to get out of the app
is to force close which is not true. You just have to play around with it. If you do not want the app running in
the background, after you finish your call, arrow back til you get the mainmenu (recent, contacts, account,
etc.), press "account", you'll get a screen with your phone number and ready to call, press menu on your
phone, you'll get an option to "close application". I checked to make sure that it's not running after I close this
and it doesn't.

So far I've made about 6 calls or so and clarity is good.

Tarkio101,
The "MO+" Wi-Fi phone that you got is the older beta version. You should try the finalized version, "MO+GV" app.
In the Google Play store, search for "MO+GV". It is FREE and uses only 35kbps of Wi-Fi bandwidth so that it lets
you make free phone calls and send free texts using a FREE Google Voice account.

The finalized "MO+GV" phone app works ok even with a low end broadband account like mine that is only 1.5 Mbs
down and 35 kbs upload speed.

Tarkio101

Runner, I don't think clearing the cache is bad at all. It needs to be done sometimes. But some people do it all
of the time for no reason. Then, next time you go back to your favorite websites, it just has to load more of the
same data over again, like some of the formatting, graphics etc, that never change.

I think it gets done a lot because some apps give you the option, so people just do it. Clearing it from time to time
is probably good though.

Any recommended Apps from what I have or don't have?
Hello Turks, I've recently purchased a ZTE Valet from Best buy for 80 bucks, got it activated yesterday, after playing
with it via Wifi. These are a list of the following apps I have installed.

The following apps I have installed already are as follows:

- Tracfone My Account app and widget on home screen

- Facebook (I have become a beta tester as well for FB for Android so any advice/tips/suggestions would be helpful
for those also in the beta program)

- Go!Chat (Facebook app to link with Messenger but might upgrade to Messenger anyway)

- Zello (two way voice chat app)

- Google Voice (does this work over wifi for calling or by the cell network if you know)

- Snapchat

- BatteryDoctor (this is a must have for those who are power savvy and trying to squeeze every little bit of power they
can in my opinion, I trust it)

- Team viewer 9 for controlling my computer remotely and remote Wake Up

- FireAlert/FireAlert2, im using FireAlert2 now as it works better and like a Moto Minitor IV&V for voice announcement
/readout (use this app for prioritizing normal one long vibrate "hey how are you" texts to the phones text area from the
"where are you?", "I need your help with a computer question", "hey I need help now! (computer probs (got to love
being an IT Guy)) and Severe Weather Texts and CERT (Community Emergency Response Team, civilian auxiliary
basic first responders) texts from our Sheriffs/Local Police Dispatch/Emergency Ops Center CAD System if the county
/city CERT is activated, I can be notified via different alert ring/vibration pattern (long/normal vib, short fast vib, long fast
vib, and S.O.S vib, along with voice announcement once the app starts talking, can even utilize my flash built in to the
phone for different alert styles, long, short long, sos) that the text is a priority text and be prepared to respond accordingly).

- No Disturb (acts like iOS's DND, but lets calls/texts if from a contact marked so it'll bypass DND and ring)

- Battery Percentage (I like that it shows my % in my status bar instead of the battery bar that you cant tell)

- Flashlight (don't know what app its called) app for flash on camera

- iVONA Text to Speech w/ Kendra Voice (this is because FireAlert2 and Google's native voice weren't getting along
and kept kicking each other, so Google's voice would crash constantly and wouldn't read FA2's announcements so
iVONA fixed that and it sounds cleaner)

-1 click tether

-Android weather (useful for home screen and status bar icon of current temp outside next to battery charge %)

-8 ball pool for playing Pool

-Android Device Manager is set up as a Device Admin so I'm able to successfully track via map, remotely lock/change
lock code/wipe, as well as "scream" the phone (ring on full blast for a few seconds) (is this sufficient enough or should
I go with a Norton app because I have a Norton Account but do not have a subscription to the Mobile Security suite).

- JoinMe (from ZTE)

- Skype

- Smartglass for Xbox

- Just installed Linksys Cisco Connect for home router management, but would prefer something else to supplement
it, as well as Wifi Analytics. (any better apps then this)

(Update) - Have also installed Fing, for network diagnostics and current status, as well as Wake on Lan support.

Is there any other suggestions/recommendations, reviews on apps listed, etc. for me at all. Also any good apps for
First Responders/CERT Team Members as well this will be broad in spectrum (first aid refresh, hazmat identifications,
incident logging/management, triage/medical logging, etc) as well as NOAA broadcasts, and such.

Also any good networking apps at all for security, logging, status, etc.

Thanks for the help and sorry for such a long post.

Not really, certainly in good proportion to size of the icons...and I have to admit my OLD eyes are challenged by
many things these days... I had to really search for a nice wallpaper that was more-or-less monochromatic and
provided the best contrast to help me navigate the home screens.

I am looking forward to the day I can find a BYOP phone with larger screen size to use on the Tracfone network.

TouchPal X app is the best! And it's free! I deleted my 3.99 Swiftkey and now use TouchPal. I discovered this
app because it was preinstalled on ZTE Awe. The more you use this, the easier this app becomes. If you hold
down the space bar, it'll even type your texts/emails and you don't have to remember everything you want to
say in say breath. Try it!

I don't know about the ZTE, Samsung, or LG android Tracfones.. but the Huawei Glory has a great built-in data
checker that can tell you EXACTLY how much data you are using-and exactly which apps are using it. You can
set it to warn you when you use a certain amount of data OR you can set it to just SHUT OFF the 3G data when
you reach your pre-set limit. While it isn't exact it's really close to what Tracfone says you have used.

There is another app I recommend called Watchdog. There is a free version but the pay version is well worth the
small price... This one keeps track of your apps and reveals which ones are hogging CPU time (and draining the
battery) and which ones load themselves. With the paid version, you can kill misbehaving apps and they can't
restart unlike when you kill an app using the built-in android app manager.

This app revealed to me that (of all things) the Tracfone app that lets you look up your balance or add an airtime
card was constantly active sucking over 1% CPU time!! It got uninstalled and now I just visit the Tracfone website...

My favorite app on my ZTE Valet is the calendar widget. It syncs with my online Outlook Calendar (presumably
through the Outlook app that I downloaded from the Google Play store) and shows me my upcoming "appoint-
ments" on one of my home screens. And it does this even though I have mobile data turned off almost all of the
time, so apparently it retains a local copy of the calendar on the phone.

South Korean government to introduce rules that allow deletion of preinstalled apps
on Samsung, LG, Pantech Smartphones

Preinstalled applications, also commonly known as "bloatware," is something that most smartphone owners
have dealt with at one point or another in their mobile lives. Many carriers and manufacturers choose to load
a handful (or sometimes more) of apps onto a device that they feel can help "enrich" the user experience, and
while the user may indeed find some of those apps useful, often there's at least a few apps that aren't wanted...

The only app which I've stumbled across which claims to use your phone number with either Wi-Fi or your data is
WhatsApp. But, the catch is that the person to whom you send your text message must also have the WhatsApp
app installed on their phone. Otherwise, it will not work.

For Android phones, the WhatsApp is free to use for the first year, and then costs 99 cents for each additional year.

It wouldn't surprise me if there are other apps available which work similarly to WhatsApp.
But, again, both the sender and the receiver would need to have the app downloaded onto their phones.

Otherwise, as far as I know, one is stuck with having multiple phone numbers.
