Text .txt , Photo .jpg, Image .png files:

I just got the LG 840g and have been able to load text (txt), photos (jpg), and Images (png) files from Windows
8 to the LG 840g... Use usb cable from pc to LG... Put text files in the "other files" folder on pc. Load jpg or png
photos/images into Pictures/Camera Album folder. Wake phone back up (push on button) and select disconnect
before removing the usb cable.

On phone select "file manager" then select the tab "memory card" and select the "other files" folder.
Select "yourfilename.txt" file, a viewer will display the text file. If you get a message that the file format is not
supported then go back to Windows and using Wordpad open and resave file as ("save as") a "plain text document"
and reload to LG. Loaded 4kb and 7kb text files successfully. Select "Pictures" on LG to view photos/images.
Loaded 116kb photos/images files successfully.
That's good info... Thanks!

I tried using WordPad to save plain text, but it wouldn't work (running XP and office 2003).
But I was able to save to plain text under Word 2003, and read the file.

Battery Management
...the LG Optimus Net wouldn't even lasted half the night before depleting the battery..
^o)
What? It's a smart phone -- they all have battery life issues -- the batteries are too small IMHO for the capabilities
of the phone. That's why I have two batteries for it... In order to have theft protection services, you have to leave
some software always running, and the GPS always on. That depletes the battery faster.

You can still trade your LG 840G for it -- it is a real smart phone, with unlimited internet access.

YouTube is starting to have LG 840g reviews show up, there are 2 new ones. One the guy talks through it and the
other a girl unboxes then shows the features to music, I don't think she says anything (I just fast forwarded through
some of it), just shows what the phone has.

Yes, I know all of that. Was just funny is all... Besides, I have a Windows Phone now. So...life is really good.
Convenient to say the least. Don't really care for AT&T though. Especially considering what they want to do with
free speech with the whole youtube thing and isp's getting in on it and whatnot. But there's always something to
complain about I suppose.

Wasn't someone having SOUND problems? I've gone through and turned EVERYTHING up to 7 and still the
Sound can BARELY be heard! Especially VOICE SOUND. The Ring Tones are also Barely Audible and I am
NOT hard of hearing.

What am I doing wrong?
Did you use a DIY screen protector on your phone? I did, and it worked out well enough for me except that I hadn't
trimmed out the ear speaker area before placing it on... I didn't think it would be a big deal to not trim that part out.
It was.

If it's not the screen protector I had mentioned elsewhere in the thread that if you are using the media player
for watching videos and the like, and then if you have the media player turned down, it also by default turns
your ringtones down to correspond.

So, if you turn the player all the way up and then call the thing it will ring loud but if you have the player turned
down and then call the device you'll see that it does not ring loud.

Anyone figger on how to change your voicemail ringtone yet? Or noticed that if you have it plugged into your
computer that the alerts are different tones...of which you cannot find in the list of sounds?

You said call TracFone...I got the phone on eBay... Will TracFone still help?

I have tried redoing the battery and it does help with the non-Voice sounds, but NOT with the Voice which
is barely audible.

The WiFi connection is STRONG with comcast highspeed.

One thing, when I tried to get on TracFone's forum I was barred...apparently because Comcast gave me a
"Blacklisted IP address"! ... Would this cause this problem?

Thank you for all the help.

As a matter of reference, the big User guide, page 62, says don't put any type cover on or over the phone.
If you have any of these, try removing them.

It shouldn't matter where you got the phone, especially if you got it new, in a sealed bubble package.
TracFones are sold in many different outlets. I have never heard of TracFone customer service asking
anyone where they purchased their unit.

But if you bought it used from someone, that may make a difference if the seller tried to hack or jailbreak
the phone -- it would void the warranty and leave you up the proverbial creek without a paddle.

Are you saying you were barred from TracFone's forum? For what? Asking a question? How would they know
who you are? Did you give them your phone number? Anyway, I don't think it would make any difference as far
as warranty goes. There is nothing I have seen in the warranty banning websites. Most reports here is that the
phone won't cooperate with you. But if you go to some websites, you can get, or the website may attempt to down
load to your unit, very hard to detect viruses and malware.

I don't know the answer to your sound problem, but if you haven't solved it yet, I would be calling TracFone asking
for help. They will ask for the phone serial number or the cell number assigned, and if they can't remedy the problem,
send you a prepaid envelope to ship the phone to them... You won't get a replacement sent out until they actually
receive the phone you are returning.

If it was me, I would just report the sound problem, and not volunteer any other information. If you have tried
turning the phone completely on and off several times, and removed and replaced the battery, and any covers
or screen protectors -- and nothing worked, then that is about all you can do -- it's then time to call TracFone.

When entering a website... there is NO "=" sign! ... Am I missing something? ... Is there a way to get around this?
Put the keypad in the sym (symbols) mode -- There are two arrowheads on the bottom of the symbol's keypad which
take you to more symbol keypad choices, which include an "=" character.
Those two arrows are NOT there. I did see them somewhere else, but not when trying to enter web address.

Could my version be different?

HOW do I find out what my software version is?

I found some really great screen protectors at Amazon, they come from the UK, but get here really fast, as a matter
of fact they came faster than some of the stuff from the US that I have ordered. These are the best I've found, they're
actually for the LG t375 which is the non-Tracfone version of the LG 840g...I think it was a European version.
Any way they fit perfect, they don't interfere with using the screen and you can hear just fine with them on.
You get six in a package.

Is there actually a GOOD site to help with problems connecting to the Internet? I keep getting "the requested host
was not found"...and I've entered a lot of REAL sites...I got the phone yesterday and am trying to learn how to use
it. I am connected to my home connection... just don't know how to get this phone to work for me.
Learning it is frustrating!

Thanks for you help.
Thanks for asking the question. It is all very clear now ---

The built-in browser is restricted to mobile sites (less data intensive then unrestricted access) or sites that have
special screens or pages for mobile devices. If you click on "Help" you get an FAQ list. On Question 3. "What Mobile
Sites Do I have access to?" the answer is "You have access to all the sites listed under Mobile Web Menu."

The bottom line is that you do not have the general web access that you would in a smart phone, and (I believe)
the rationale for that restriction is that TracFone can then allow you limited web access on a per minute access basis
(on 3G), and not require an unlimited data plan. It all makes sense - from a financial standpoint, not necessarily your
standpoint. Even if you are accessing through WiFi, the built-on browser still restricts you to the "approved" list --
which is listed below with the sub-menu breakout (the menu comes up when you tap the Browser icon on the phone)

If you have the qwerty keyboard up, then hit the 123 key, then tap the uppercase key to get more symbols,

Tap SETTINGS> PHONE > PHONE INFORMATION > swish the list to the bottom, and on the bottom of the list,
next to Language, is the software version -- should be version 10b.

Thank you DoctorM for responding to my missing Album Art inquiry. I read the posts on this subject in LG 800g.
I did find DoctorM's suggestion of revealing hidden files very useful. Here is what I did to solve most of my problems.

1) I made the mistake of copying the music files and directory structure directly to LG840g music folder via USB
communication cable... My doing so, it copied three hidden jpg files per album (or music folder) inadvertently.
These hidden files are AlbumArt_{...}_Large, AlbumArt_{...}_Small, and AlbumArtSmall. The problem is that these
jpg files will clutter the PICTURE viewer, showing at least 3 Album Art per CD. Worst of all, it appears that the jpg
files reside in phone memory, not in the microSD card.

To reveal the hidden files in Windows XP, PC side, do the following (as suggested by DoctorM):
a) Open Windows Explorer
b) Go to My Documents
c) In Tool Bar, Tools -> Folder Options -> View tab
d) Activate or select "Show Hidden Files and Folders"
e) Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files"

Not only the 3 jpg files occupy space, worst of all, they do nothing to alleviate the missing Album Art situation.

2) By using the following method, the three jpg files will not be copied to the phone.

a) Connect phone to PC using USB cable.
b) Open Windows Media Player
c) Use the SYNC tab to send albums to the phone.

After all the music files are sent to the phone, disconnect the USB cable.
Open PICTURE, there should not be any Album Art pictures.

3) My next problem is that the number of song titles exceeding the maximum 2000. Once MUSIC PLAYER loads
2000 songs, it ignores the rest of the music files. This created a big problem for me because not all the albums
(or songs in an album) got loaded completely.

In the phone, there should be a MUSIC folder (after Sync) where all albums are stored. Right click on the MUSIC
folder -> Properties, to see how many files are inside the folder (including all album sub-folders). If it exceeds 2000,
then start deleting albums.

4) I tried many methods (including some special free ware mentioned in various websites and forums).
The sure way for me is as follows:

a) In the PC's music CD folder, the three AlbumArt files were un-hidden using the method described in Step 1.
b) Copy the AlbumArtSmall.jpg file to the same folder in the phone, but rename it as AlbumArt.jpg.
c) Do this for every album.

Although it is time consuming, but it works.
a) Afterwards, every song comes up with Album Art. It works flawlessly and consistently.
b) Open PICTURE, each Album Art shows up once, not 3 times.

I labelled (or tagged) all my personal photos as FAVORITE and then sort by FAVORITE.
This way, all my photos will come first in PICTURE. System wallpapers and Album Arts will follow.

5) There is one problem left.

In MUSIC PLAYER, sort by album. In front of each entry (album title), there is a miniature Album Art. Most show
the default CD picture. A few show miniature Album Art of the Album. As it turned out, these are the ones that I
had to download custom pictures for album covers... As for the standard Window Media Player album covers
(obtained using FIND INFO or UPDATE INFO), they do not show up as miniature Album Art.

In the LG 840g system folder named AlbumArt, you can find these small Album Art jpg files. I have no idea how
these are generated. I do not know if there is a way to force generate the miniature AlbumArts for all my albums.

UPDATE: 12/08/2012

In Music Player, when sort songs by Album, there is an Albumart icon showing in front of the album title.

To have the miniature Alarmart to show up in front of album title, the only way is to have Alarmart embedded into each song. Using Windows Media Player:
1) Go to Library tab.
2) Select an Album.
3) Highlight all the songs of the album.
4) (Copy an Albumart from some website (such as Amazon.com))
5) On the Albumart picture, paste Albumart. Now all the songs have embedded Albumart.

To send the album to the phone:
1) Go to Sync tab.
2) Locate the album.
3) Drag all the songs of the album to the sync area.
4) Click [Start Sync]
5) Songs will be saved in its Album Folder under MUSIC folder of the phone.

In the phone, there is a system folder LGSYS\Albumart, you will find the miniature Albumart stored in there.

When songs are transferred using the above method, albumart will show up for each song and for each album (preceeding the album title). You do not need to have Albumart.jpg in each album folder. Consequently, none of the alarm art should show up inside PICTURE, causing clutter.

Besides Windows Media Player, there are other software (or Shareware) that can cause Albumart to be embedded into songs.

In summary, the lessons learned are:

Do not cut and paste the MUSIC folder from PC to the phone, you will end up with 3 Albumart per alarm showing inside PICTURE of the phone. Use Sync.

Copying Alarmart.jpg to each album folder in the phone will provide albumart for each song, but it does not produce the miniature Albumart icon preceeding the alarm title.

Embedding alarmart into each song will fix all the problems.
1) Miniature Album Art Preceeding Each Album.
2) Album Art for Each Song.
3) No Alarm Art showing up in Picture app of the phone (no more clutter).

@Watsonk -- That's good info for someone. Thanks for reporting it in detail. I'm sure that will be helpful to others
using your techniques (sub-folders).

I also get those miniature album art icons (thumbnails) in Album Sort. In my case, they have to come form the
embedded art, because there are no separate artwork files on my phone -- all my artwork is embedded in the
audio file, and only show up in the music player when played... Maybe they are already embedded as picture
and thumbnail, or the phone creates a thumbnail from the picture. I'd have to peek into one of the files with the
embedding software. I may do that later.

You are now the expert in this field.

I just noticed that all the music files on my LG 840G starting with K and going through S have been deleted
from the phone. Not only that, but the same music titles have been deleted from the backup file on my PC.

I think the delete om the PC has something to do with synchronizing the LG 840G and my PC.
And I think the delete was somehow initiated by the LG 840G as I was scrolling through the music list.

Anybody else suffer a delete by scrolling the LG 840G through the music list?

I was successful transferring my contacts from my old LG 800g to the new LG 840g by Bluetooth.
However, trying to transfer files (photos) from my desktop to the LG 840g by micro to USB cable does not
work like it did on the 800g. It only begins charging without giving me the option of transferring any files by
drag and drop... Is there another way that works?

Thanks

It sounds like you are using a charging cable, not a data/charging cable.
They look alike but only a data/charging cable can transfer data.

It sounds like you don't need 'another way,' you need a data cable.

I found an LG micro data cable at Amazon for less than $3.00, including postage, the seller has a good rating.
I think it also charges as it downloads data. Hope this helps. :)

I think it also charges as it downloads data. Hope this helps. :)

http://www.amazon.com/LG-Micro-Data-Cable-Phones/dp/B003VQS47Q/ref=?ie=UTF8&m=A20H555M9MROEP
I just finished restoring my music files on the LG 840G using the data cable.

If it is a data cable, and it worked transferring data to the LG 800G, then it will transfer data also to the LG 840G.

On either unit, when a data cable is plugged in, the phone itself will ask you if you want to connect to mass storage.
If you are not getting that message, and your data cable worked before, then the cable may be damaged.

Or it might be the phone is hung up (or your PC is hung up). Try turning the phone completely off and back on again.
And you might try rebooting your computer, then try hooking the cable up again.

I only had a few songs on the thing just to test out how it worked, Doc. Check your recycle bin first. I don't
remember how windows XP synced with WMP or even if you're using another media player but could be
a couple of different things....depending upon a couple of different scenarios even.

Or were you messing with adhoc playlist? I never checked to see how that synced with the computers media
player and the device itself. I know there is a tick box in media player on the pc that asks if you want to delete
songs from the computer/device when you delete them from the playlist. Although, trac probably didn't let the
device sync like that anyhow if history is any indicator. Don't know.

But to answer your direct question, no. Didn't have that problem of deletion while scrolling. Have to be careful
with the touching of some buttons/tabs on the device though. I almost found myself deleting files after watching
them in the vid player just because of the location of the delete tab. Although it's different with the music player,
I suppose.

For others reading these posts on data cables, many chargers come with a USB to microUSB charging cable.
Most of these cables (that come with chargers) will not transmit data. On the other hand, a data cable can also
be used to charge your phone.

Just to refresh my own memory, I charged up the LG 800g (with its own charger) and tried plugging in the micro to
USB cable that I had. The result was the same as with the LG 840g: it just showed "charging" with no option for data
transfer. This means that I purchased that cable with the intention of using it for data transfer but it failed and just has
been sitting on the shelf ever since. Since I don't have a 7-11 nearby to look in their parking lot, I already ordered the
data cable from the link given here. ;-)

Is there another way that works? ..........Thanks
It sounds like you are using a charging cable, not a data/charging cable.
They look alike but only a data/charging cable can transfer data.

It sounds like you don't need 'another way,' you need a data cable.
I have a LG 800g and want to transfer my contacts to my new LG 840g. I don't know how to use Bluetooth.
Can someone tell me how to do it? .... Thanks.

DoctorM: I said: "This brings up another question about my software version: My Mobile Web ONLY brings up

then you asked: "Can you tell me exactly what keystrokes/menu items you are tapping (starting from the main

I now think it must be my computer/wireless setup:
I must not have my Wireless set up right...or worse my old Quest router may not be able to do the job with my

I'm pulling my hair out trying to get the old router and my computer to do their stuff. They connect great.
The internet management just then says the router has No Internet connection even tho' it SHOWS a strong
connection! I've been going in circles since last night trying to get it to work...changing all the configurations
into every permetation possible and running all the possible diagnostics!

Also, I've tried to get just my computer to link to the phone because it supposilly has the ability: it sends a signal
which the phone does recognize...then I have to give the phone the password...which I set up and even have tried
changing to see if that is the problem. The phone just comes back with CANNOT CONNECT even tho' it has all the
correct information!

Thank you for all the other information you have given... IT I have been able to use and understand.

I've spent a lot of time with Comcast and am told they can NOT change it. I've also tried all the online "fixes" to change

This gives me a good laugh..... Earlier when I was reading here about folks transferring through usb cable, I was
wondering if I missed that cable in my box, or if I just didn't get one with my order. I realized that some here either
had one or maybe bought one in the meantime, and then I remembered this small cable I found on some parking
lot, it was some time ago, I can't even remember exactly where I found it, but I remember it looking run over and a
bit dirty; it was still worth me grabbing for possible future use.

I didn't try it earlier since I had already loaded my card up with songs via a usb-SD adapter. After reading your
comment about finding yours I was inspired to give it a go.. I plugged it in and didn't see any action... then I hit
the wake up button on the phone and there was a notice to unlock for mass storage device. :D

More info on supported plain text files:

MS Notepad*

I have 2 questions about the LG 840g?

I just bought a LG 840g and I want to upgrade the micro sd card and am wondering if the sdhc cards work?
I did a search but haven't found any info on that.

Also, if the ext audio port on the phone uses mic headset jacks?

Thanks in advance.
Not SDHC, but microSDHC Yes -- MicroSD = MicroSDHC (someone, somewhere said microSD over 2GB or
something is always microSDHC)

Headset plug size is 3.5mm (1/8") -- If it fits your ipod, it will fit your 840G phone. It can be a combo mic/earphone
plug (the type used by hands-free headsets).

If the problem is in your wireless system, then I won't be able to give you specific help, as I have no experience
with Comcast, nor access to the equipment they supply, nor do I know how their wireless system is setup, or even
if they provide/support WiFi.

I can only relate to how my AT&T supplied wireless works, which is integral with the cable box. On the AT&T
gateway box, I have both a Wireless Network Key and a System Password. When setting up a wireless connection,
and asked for a password by the LG 840G (or other WiFi device), I have to use the Wireless Network Key number,
which is different from the System Password.

You might look at your Comcast box and see if it has both a Wireless Network Key and a System Password (or
similar terminology). If so, try using the Wireless Network Key as the password in the LG840G. both the wireless
key and the wireless password are printed on the outside of the gateway box supplied by AT&T. Your Comcast
box may be similar.

Well, that is a real bummer. Apparently someone with your IP address previously was spamming or otherwise
doing something TracFone didn't like. Many times it is not your specific address, but everyone associated with
an ISP, usually because the ISP is not cooperative in resolving or limiting an abusive user, so the entire ISP
customer base gets blacklisted. If that is the case, you might have to go with another service provider.

Your statement that TracFone Customer Service wants to use your minutes to call ComCast indicates to me
you were probably dealing with an overseas call center. You should call the Miami customer service number
(1-800-876-5753) -- they are your court of last resort, and most of us find them very helpful.

I think you can change your ip address depending upon if it's static or not. Just google it. I mean startpage it. Sorry...
Of course, Docs way works too.

I have Comcast, which is why I know that you can do that.
Have you went through all of your router settings? ... Maybe even reset it to default and then work from there?

Just got my LG 840G from HSN today and got it activated with no problems tonight.
Thinking that the LG Cookie Smart T375 was the same phone, I ordered a 2-pack of screen protectors by
Stealth Shieldz from Amazon: link here It turns out that these protectors are not really the right size. They
appear to be the correct height, but are about 1/8" too narrow. Also, the corners of the protector are more
square(not as rounded) than the LG 840G and the notch for the ear speaker is positioned wrong leaving
the speaker covered by the protector. I suppose they could be made to work with some cutting and fitting,
but I think I'll probably just pass and do without for the time being... Hope this info is helpful.

I got screen savers made for the LG t375 and they seem to be a perfect fit... They go on fairly easy, don't interfere
with the sliding of the screen, the ear hole lines up perfect too, you get 6 in a pack. Even though they're sent from
the UK, they arrive very quickly. The price is right-less than $5 for six protectors and shipping.

I just noticed that all the music files on my LG 840G starting with K and going through S have been deleted

I think the delete on the PC has something to do with synchronizing the LG 840G and my PC.
And I think the delete was somehow initiated by the LG 840G as I was scrolling through the music list.
This is a strange tale indeed -- I restored my PC backup file from the LG 800G, and then from the PC to the LG 840G,
all using the data cable. But when I tried playing the restored files on the LG 840G, about half of them would not play
-- all in alphabetical sequence with each other and the last files to be transferred -- which may indicate a limit on the
number of files that can be selected simultaneously for transfer on a data cable to the LG 840G.

I checked the restored music files on the PC using both Windows Media Player and iTunes, and they all played on
the PC.

So I deleted the remaining non-playing music files on the LG 840G, and then transferred the titles from the LG 800G
by Bluetooth, ten at a time. Now all the music files are restored to the LG 840G, and all play OK.

Very curious behavior for the 840G. I am now entertaining whether to send it back and wait for the next software edition.

Can't understand how simple scrolling would delete files.

Help!!! I need to know (1) how to find the "security code" required to delete everything from this phone I got at

If no one can supply me with the info to correct this, I will have to return this phone to K-Mart!!! ... Thanks!

Open up the email app / once it's open to your inbox tap the back arrow on the top left corner / Once there, you
tap the notepad icon on the top right corner / select account settings/ then empty out the password. Don't know
if it will let you delete the password and input the thing every time though. If you have read any of my gripes about
some of the personal data here regarding this device then you would maybe want to consider other areas of the
device where the same practice is default.

I was just checking if the music files I transferred from the LG 800G to the PC played OK on the PC.
I didn't do any transferring using Windows Media Player or iTunes.

I was looking for where the problem initiates from. For some reason Bluetooth transfers all the files ok (as it
should), but the data cable transfer did not. I don't think it is the data cable itself, but maybe something in the
LG 840G software handling the transferred files.

Then there is the issue of why so many files were deleted -- haven't solved that one yet, either.

EDIT:
#@*$!%^& (swearing) -- Now tunes I just transferred (and confirmed playing on the LG 840G as each completed

Yep. Probably a better idea to send it back and start over. Don't know if LG 800g might change file structure or not
and maybe the 840g structure is different. Hard telling.. Maybe uninstall the 800g driver from the computer as well
as the 840 driver and then reboot, reinstall and try the transfer again from the pc to the device but that's a stretch too.

It's probably something dumb causing it.

In regard to the Data Cable/Charging Cable discussion, an "LG data cable" I bought from Amazon fails to
transmit data for my LG 800 and now 840 but works perfectly for data transmission on my Net 10 Huawei
Android. On the other hand the micro USB cables I got at the Dollar Tree work great for data transmission
for the LG Tracfones but won't transmit data for my Net10 Android... Am I missing something?

DoctorM, have you tried a different memory card? Initially I just put my LG 800g 4GB card into my LG 840g
which had no issues, then I copied the card's contents via data cable back to the 2GB card which I put in the
LG800 without issue. As I tried larger memory cards I repeated the process using the 840 and a card reader
twice so far without any memory loss.

twice so far without any memory loss.
If what I just did (below) doesn't work, then I'll try my 16GB microSD...

I just did a Master Reset on the phone (Settings > Phone, Reset Settings > Master Reset).
And, I just re-formatted the 32GB microSD card (Settings > Phone > Memory > Used Space > Memory Card > Format),
which wiped clean all my prior files.
Then I created a sub-folder, which I named "Music." within the Audio folder (File Manager > Audio > (select memory
card tab) > (select Option icon) > New Folder > (name new folder).

Before reloading the music, I sorted it on the PC so I could see all the M4A (iTunes protected) files together,
because they appeared to be the ones causing the most problems not playing. I noticed some of these M4A
files had a "1" in the file name, which might indicate it was a copy -- so (thinking conspiratorial thoughts about
Apple) I deleted the "1" from the file name... Then I transferred (via data cable) the M4A files to the new Music
sub-folder in the LG840G . Then I played all the M4A files on the LG 840G to see if they played, and they all did.

I'm hoping the entire mess was caused by accidentally syncing the phone to the computer, and the files disappearing
was caused by the M4A files with a "1" in it.

Then I transferred all the MP3 files in one transaction from the PC to the Music sub-folder.
I am in the process now of seeing if all of the MP3 files play. So far, all I have tested have played.

EDIT -- I went through my entire music list, and all songs played. I think this was NOT a phone issue, but an issue
with some Apple M4A malware, deleting or scrambling M4A music files it considered improperly transferred, and
screwing up other music files nearby in the process,,. It appears taking out the "1" in the M4A file name cured the
problem ??? It's hard to know for sure, because I did several things at once to get here.

Does itunes run all of the time on your pc, Doc? Like at startup? That's probably why the files were renamed.
All I ever use is mp3. I don't understand Apple. If you buy a song it should be yours. Not yours just a little bit.
My guess is itunes is second guessing you.

I was getting a bit annoyed because it would sometimes be difficult to hit the top wake button on this device...
I decided to add a tiny piece of the soft side of some sticky back velcro onto that button so it was easier to find
and push. So much better, you can even double hit to fully unlock. Duct tape would probably work as a button
lifter too, I just prefer the velcro for now. I did order that gel case from a seller in Spain. I'll post a pic as soon as
I get it in... I probably won't need this when that does come in, but for now it helps.

Thanks for that info... I thought the phones were the same physically... Internally, I know they have a few small
differences. But based on the dimensions listed I could see no differences. Hope I didn't mess too many people
up. I guess the lack of anything available for the 840g is the main problem though. I just went back and looked
at some pictures of the 375 and I can't see the difference, so it must be very subtle.

Fortunately, I have had no trouble with any music on my phone. All of the files I've transferred have played
correctly and transferred easily. Now, video files have been a different issue. I need to check and see which
type of files this phone plays, because the ones I have tried to not work.. I probably just need to use one of
the converter programs, but haven't gotten around to it.

DISPLAY SMALL ALBUM ART ON ALBUM SORT

In Music Player, Album sort (or Artists sort -> Alarm level), each album entry has a small thumbnail or album
art preceding the album title. Most of my albums display the default "CD" album art... A few of them display
actual album art. For these few, their album art files can be found in the LG system folder named AlbumArt.

As I mentioned before, these few successful albums have custom album art picture pasted on them in
Window Media Player's Library tab, as opposed to those determined automatically through "Find Album Info"
and "Update Album Info".

After extensive research in the web, it turns out that my technique is correct when using Window Media Player.

1) Connect phone to PC using a USB media cable.
2) Touch [OK] when prompted for "Connect as Mass Storage Media".
3) Open Windows Media Player.
4) Go to Library tab.
5) Locate Artist -> Album
6) Search the web (such as Amazon.com) for the album and find the album cover.
7) Copy the album art.
8) Back to Windows Media Player, Library, select all the songs of the album.
9) Paste album art over the existing album art.
10) Now all the songs' ID3 tags have been updated.
11) Go to Sync tab.
12) Copy and paste all the songs in the Sync List.
13) Click Start Sync.
14) The entire album should be transferred to the phone... Music -> Artist -> Album
15) Sometimes, to have the small Albumart file generated in the system Albumart folder, one has to turn off
and turn back on the phone. Enter Media Player.

The above method generates the small Albumart thumbnail in front of each album title. Also, Albumart will appear in each song while playing. Better yet, the "AlarmArt.jpg" file is no longer needed in each music folder. As result, you will not find any albumart pictures cluttering the PICTURE tool.

first smartphone:

''Help!!! I need to know (1) how to find the "security code" required to delete everything from this phone I got at K-Mart on Black Friday, and also (2) how to remove my "Saved" user name and password I had input via the LG 840G's icon called "email." Because other icons had not continued any farther until I had pressed "Save" at the bottom of the screen, I thought the same was true of the "email" icon. I HAD NO IDEA THAT THE EMAIL ICON WOULD SAVE IT PERMANENTLY, thereby allowing ANYONE who picks up my phone to go into MY EMAIL instantly!!! ... I want to input my user name and password EVERY TIME I want to access my email.

''If no one can supply me with the info to correct this, I will have to return this phone to K-Mart!!! ... Thanks!''

While my 840g isn't activated as of yet, and this may have something to do with it, I'm not sure, I did get to the screen you are talking about, then typed my email address and password then save. At the top right of this screen there's a trash can(?) icon. I pressed it and it said 'cancel'? So I said yes. The information disappeared. I retyped the same information carefully and did the same thing and the information was gone; meaning you have to retype everytime you want email access. I went back to the main screen, scrolled over to the email icon again, tapped it, and the address and password weren't there. Evidently the cancel button is what you need, unless I'm not reading what you said in the correct way.

Security:

As Tech says, the default security number is 0000. But I'm not sure yet if it relates to your email issue which I think has been solved. But you *can* code your own numbers if you like. Again, my not being activated hampers me somewhat at this point. At any rate on the 840g 0000 is fine but if you have a prankster around the house and they know about the 0000 then you may be in trouble, i.e., deleting something you want to save. I will say I don't know how far and how much your personal number, or for that matter the 0000, will take you in deletion throughout the entire phone.

840G similar to 800g:

On my 800g I tap the ''phone'' icon. ''Contacts and Logs'' show up. Tap Logs and you will see Call Duration and Data Volume. From there you will see a host of items that can be deleted in whole or in part. Either route you take will call for your security number be it 0000 or a new one. Again I'm thinking the 800g is similar to the 840g.

New code? Here you go.

840g:
From the main screen tap the die in the lower right hand corner then: > settings > phones > security > change codes > security code <The screen here prompts you to enter the current code which is 0000 then tap ''ok''; (unless it's already been tampered with/changed--then you may have to look for the ''Master'' if you don't know what the number is). At the top of the rectangular box it says enter new code then ''ok''.

For anyone. I've had three Tracfones since April 2009. I've transferred minutes and service dates from two of them. The first transaction took an hour. Fine. The next, 800g (double minutes), with a transfer of 400 minutes, took about three minutes or less. Now comes the 840g (triple minutes). It's been 24 hours since I did the internet transfer of 576 minutes and phone number (2:30 a.m. 27th Nov.). The instructions said everything went okay and that the activation could take a few hours or two business days to complete. After 12 hours I called Tracfone knowing it is quite possible my delay could be caused by their overload. The technician says my work number is in the system. Has anyone else experienced such a delay as this (so far)? Is it possible double minutes and triple minutes conflict with each other?

Did you tum your phone completely off and back on? You have to do that several times sometimes (maybe
every five minutes) in order for the phone to "phone home" and reboot itself. Although, sometimes minutes
and time will post on the phone without it. If you have tried for two days, then I'd call TracFone's Miami Office.
If they can't get you going, then they'll probably send you a new SIM card, which means you'll have more delay.

One more thing that could delay activation is, if you are transferring a number from another carrier, such as
from T-Mobile to AT&T (TracFone itself is not a carrier). Despite what Congress has said, you don't really own
your telephone number -- it belongs to an underlying carrier, and if you transfer it to another carrier, the losing
carrier has to release it first.

"Is it possible double minutes and triple minutes conflict with each other?"

No. Double or triple minutes is a feature of the phone. I've transferred minutes back and forth between double
and triple minute phones with no problems -- You don't gain or lose any minutes or time in the transfer..

DoctorM, I just now got off the phone with tracfone and told them my concerns and the technician saw to it right
away that I had service... After I made the comment to him about them being really busy he never said anything
as to whether they were or not. Of course it didn't matter at that point because I was happy he solved my problem.
However he did say seem curious about my 33 hour delay.

On my airtime display information: as opposed to my 800g, I see no way to get it off the 840g screen.
I'm sure there is, but I can't see as of yet what I need to do.

I use Freemake Video Converter... It's simple. And you can do a lot of other types of converting with it too.
Nice user interface. 3gp worked for me the best as far as light weight file size. And no guessing as far as settings.

To remove the airtime display, click on the buttons (the little dice thing) then click on prepaid in the upper left
corner, click on Airtime Display near the bottom of the screen. You'll see Balance, click on that, it will give you
an on or off option, click on 'off' then click 'Back' at the bottom. Just repeat with the Service End Date link, then
go to the home screen to see if it's gone. :) ... Good luck, hope that helps.

I thought I read somewhere earlier some of that stuff is part of the system. Not 100% sure though.

The best I could do is scroll the widgets off the side of the screen and out of sight. However something always replaces it.

Do you mean the gray box in the middle of the screen? Click on the arrow at the bottom (it'll be pointing up, after
you click on it the arrow will be pointed down and you'll see the hidden widgets) Take your finger and push on the
little box then drag it down into into strip of other icons. I think it took me a few times to get it right. I found if you sort
of push it to the right it'll fall into the strip a little better.
Once you get it on the icon strip, click on the arrow so it's pointing up again, the icon strip disappears and you're back
to the home screen. Hope that makes sense, I know what I'm trying to say, but I don't know if it's coming out right. LOL

GRRacing,

I stumbled on the solution for the clock. I vaguely recalled the 800g as doing the same thing (almost covering
my tracks with the 100% comment above). Anyway I put my index finger on the clock for a second then dragged
it to the bottom of the screen where the other widgets were hanging out. The only thing on the screen was the
tiny word ''home'' and the pier.

I switched the phone ''off'' then ''on'' just to see if the widgets decided to haul butt back to the screen when the
lights were out... Good news, they were still out of sight... Of course, all the widgets are still at the very bottom
conspiring to get back where they were I'm sure.

Yes, I had just returned from lunch at the base ''mess hall'' while stationed at the Marine Corp Base at 29 Palms,
California and was entering my work area when a sergeant stopped me and gave the terrible news. It seems like
it was approximately 11:30 a.m. California time.

I remember the Beatles on Ed Sullivan at that time. If memory serves me right it was in January or February, 1964.
I was at the base bar counting my days left in service when Sullivan announced this group. It didn't take long for

I assume the cell phone is your sole means of voice communications. And perhaps your computer is your only
other means of communications.

If that is so, then you might be learning first hand the drawbacks of depending solely on the cell phone or the
computer... When you have problems with the cell phone, then you are screwed if can't use it while resolving
problems with it. And you are apparently having problems connecting with your computer. I highly recommend
you get some alternatives communications means.

There are solutions to your problem. For example:
1) Thanks to a wife and two daughters, I have multiple cell phones in my home, so if one goes on the blink, there
are others I can use;

2) I have a land-line though AT&T, which I continue to subscribe to with only the most basic services (no caller ID,
no long distance, no nothing) for less than $20/month (and I can call toll-free numbers such as 1-800 numbers);

3) I have MagicJack+, hooked up directly to my home network, which costs me up-front about $100 for five years
of service, but absolutely no additional costs after that (average monthly cost = $1.67). While it is a VOIP (Voice
Over Internet Protocol), and it originates through an ISP on my end (my hone network), on the other end it drops
into a land-line provider, so there is no black-balling (unless you are just so notorious you are blackballed every
where.) The nice thing about the MagicJack+ is that it doesn't need a computer (totally self-contained), but it can
be plugged into any computer by USB, such as at you local library.

4) I also have tablets (iPads, iDream, ipods) that have WiFi connectivity, and I could go to a coffee shop, connect
to their WiFi, and using other VOIP apps, make calls over WiFi.

So there are other solutions that you should make available to youself, so you have options to contact, TracFone
service or otherwise.

You cant "learn" Facebook if you can't get to Facebook.

He can get to facebook fine. He said so. He just doesn't know how to use it once he gets there. (He said that too.)

Researching, acquiring and implementing 'multiple communication channels' is a long-term solution. He has an
IMMEDIATE problem. No phone. That requires an immediate solution and one is available through facebook.

LastRone, it is possible to submit a problem on facebook without ever going near Parature. I do it routinely.
I also refuse to submit all my info to Parature. Tracfone on facebook has a method that doesn't reuire Parature.
As I said, I do it routinely. It always works.

My question is I'm working on how to sync your contacts, add apps etc. it says the newest in touch screen NON-Android phone.

Any suggestions?

A browser is already on the phone - it is an icon of the Earth and it says "Browser" under it.
There is one on your ShortCuts page, and one on the Apps pages [::]

Make sure your WiFi is connected first, or your phone will connect by 3G, which will cost you minutes.
When you tap the browser icon, it will then display the MOBILE WEB menu of mobile web pages you can go to.

I did go to wifi, then browser, but the earth icon went to top along with the wifi and charged me.

The first thing you should do is read your User Guide. It has a lot of useful information in it.

The next thing to do is go to the tutorial link below.
Tracfone LG 840g Tutorial Link: http://tracfone.deviceanywhere.com/tracfone/home.seam?

After that, if you have very specific "how to" issues, come back here and ask them.

That's because you weren't connected to a WiFi network. There is no way (I know of) to turn off 3G for the LG 840g,
so if you aren't connected to a WiFi network, it automatically defaults to 3G, which is a data channel that uses your
minutes (while WiFi is free.)

It sounds like you might have questions on setting up WiFi. You have to do more than tap the WiFi slide button on
the phone. You also have to have access to a WiFi network.. Many "public" WiFi networks (such as at bookstores,
malls, and coffee houses) are free, and don't require a password to access. But almost all private WiFi (such as in
your home) require a password to access.

Ok, I am sorry I should have explained it better... I have set up my home wifi, with my internet provider and
entered the security code. Then I slid the button on my provider to on. it then connected to wifi. Ok, so now
I see the wifi at the top. it is? connected. but when I tap the browser button, the earth icon ALSO goes to the
top next to the wifi.

Ok, so if you have both the wireless icon and the earth icon up in the status/notification tray, that means you are
on the internet using WiFi, which overrides the 3G, and you shouldn't then use any minutes - EXCEPT if you are
using Goggle Maps, which does send some data over the 3G connection as well as the WiFi. It has to use 3G to
locate you (pings off of cell towers), as the phone has no GPS to provide that info.

The next thing to know is that the Lg 840G restricts your access to the internet to mobile sites (sites designed
especially for mobile devices.) While you can input specific URL's, you might not be able to actually connect,
or the web page is so tiny you can't navigate well in it.

So there are other solutions that you should make available to youself, so you have options to contact,
TracFone service or otherwise.
The first step is to learn to use Facebook. Then all those other things... First things first.
When I go to Tracfone's Support page: https://www.facebook.com/TracFoneDeals?v=app_124192170958476

And:
> enter a Search... I Get "Parature"!
> Click on "Submit A Support Ticket" ... I Get "The webpage cannot be found"!

HOW is this "my inability to use Facebook?
(Although, I do admit I'm not an expert like many of you must be and would be more accurately labeled a "newbie".)
As far as I can tell, my computer is working correctly.

I greatly appreciate all the suggestions; nevertheless, I don't have the Resources to get any of these Other Options.
I'm trying to use the resources I do have.......... Thank you all for your help.
