Sam awoke in the middle of the night, restless, unable to stop his mind from thinking about the badge. So he stood up and started to walk to the saloon to get a drink, but stopped himself. He couldn't wait any longer. Sam freezing cold ran as silently as he could to Tressa's house, and now that he was fully awake and warm, with his blood pumping uncontrollably through his adrenaline filled body, he crept to the back of the house and found a thicket where he could rest until day break when he would make his move. Tressa woke up and stretched in her bed. It was so nice to be home again. Sleeping in her own bed was a luxury that she had not known for the past two years and now she realized just how much she had missed it. She looked out her small window. The sun was just rising in the east. She knew that she should be getting up but she couldn't resist just watching the sun chase shadows through her room.

Sam awoke at the sound of movement inside of Tressa's house, all he had to do now was wait for her to leave the house and then he could search it. Although he made a mental note to disturb as little as he possibly could in the house, so as to make the house appear untouched when Tressa returned; only the badge would be out of place. No Avatar

Tressa finally gave her final stretch and got out of bed. She glanced at her dresser where the sheriffs badge was safely tucked inside. She was glad that Sam had not followed her that day from the town hall.

Tressa walked down the hall, past her fathers empty room and went into the bathroom to wash up. She supposed she could go visit Hannah today. After all, after two years there was a lot to share.

Sam woke up two hours later, and listened closely to Tressa's house, listening for the slightest noise. When he heard nothing he proceeded to enter, making no noise at all! No Avatar

Tressa rose up to the house after spending some time with Hannah in town. She had enjoyed her time with her friend but was ready for a nice, warm, home cooked meal. She took her mare out to the barn and took the tack off of her, carefully placing everything back into it's home. It was nice that these small routines were still so simple. Leaving some extra molasses in the feed bucket, Tressa headed back toward the house.

She carefully stepped inside and began to root around in the kitchen, unsure if the utensils had been moved in her absence. She smiled as she found each item relatively where she thought they would be. She grabbed a kettle and went outside to pump some water from the well.

As Sam was about to enter he heard the front door open and more noise being made. Tressa was home. He heard her coming in his direction, so he promptly headed back to into hiding.

Tressa was about to head back into the house when she happened to look up and notice the cattle running. She smiled as the calves were jumping playfully in a group. The smile was instantly replaced by horror. Those cattle were not supposed to be out! She looked towards to gate and noticed it wide open. She had not clue how that could have happened. Perhaps she had been forgetful to close it earlier.

Dropping the bucket she made a mad dash for the barn. Tressa needed to round them up before she lost them.

Sam seeing Tressa running for the loose cattle took the opportunity to run into the house to search for the badge. He had thought of where to search before hand, and he had chosen the one spot he was nearly sure about. The top drawer of her dresses; the under garment drawer. And as he opened the drawer his eyes began to shine back at the shining sheriff's badge. swiftly grabbing it, and making sure to move any item out of place. Sam slinked out the door, and headed for a place of hiding. No Avatar

Tressa spent the next hour trying to round up all the animals. At the end, she was much more tired than she would have thought she would be. But thankfully all the animals were safely inside of the corrals. She carefully checked the latches this time. She did not want to have a repeat of this little adventure! Dusting her hands off and putting her poor more in the stall for a second time, she went back into the house, never the wiser that what she sought to protect had been stolen away from underneath her.
