The Rainbow
Posted by SG2 (>:3 Admin) at Jun 25 2009, 02:47 PM. 7 comments
So we had discussed this a little while ago in the TxG chatbox, on whether or not we should instate the Rainbow on the board.
What is the Rainbow, you ask? This, my friends, is the Rainbow.
...
Okay, TL;DR, the Rainbow isa cult the religion system on IGNO that we developed where each member has their own personal color. Usually, the color system is used on message boards to differentiate between groups - Admin, Moderator, different sorts of members, etc. That's how we've been using it here, as well (more prominently when we had the 'level up system' of N00bs, Newbies, Newbie Members, etc, but we still have Members and Black-Ops nao), but on IGNO, rather than set up logical group systems, by setting up an individual group for each member, and assigning them their own color of choice, we have created an unstoppable power known only...as The Rainbow.
(Srsly read that link, 'tis epic win)
Some example images of this system on IGNO:
So, the way this would work on TxG is that I provide a 'sign-up sheet' of sorts with the hexidecimal color codes, and it's first-come first-serve for who gets what color. You'll also want to be thinking of what your group title will be (for instance, if you're a Black-Ops now, you'll no longer be listed as such, but rather your own custom title). And let's try not to reuse too many colors of similar shade - for example, we have like 10 people who are green on IGNO, and even though they are many unique shades of green, I've officially banned green for the color signups because we're running out of unique shades
(Bradios, XL, LG and Hamel, you have no say in the matter, you colors are decided and the Rainbow doesn't take kindly to swapping
)
So...thoughts? Are you all ready to let the Rainbow into your hearts and feel the loving embrace of itsiron fist fluffy hugs?
If so...choose your color.

AWESOMENESS POINTS

Okay so, a while back, I was experimenting adding some code to the board, remember? I added a few features, but mostly, I didn't want to add things here that weren't successful, so I did my testing on IGNO. And eventually, like with most of my bright ideas for the board, I got sidetracked and forgot (like the FireFox toolbar and the IRC channel, though Niu is helping me with the latter). BUT!!
I thought I'd carry over what has proven to be a very popular feature that I added to IGNO...Awesomeness Points.
You'll notice that now underneath your avatar area there is a little box that says 'Awesomeness' with a + and - next to it (the buttons will have to be changed though, because they only match the Dark Acid skin (IGNO's default theme ATM) and don't look good on either of the Distubia ones, which I'm assuming most of you are using right now). This allows you to, once every 24 hours, raise the Awesomeness level of as many members as you want. In other words, within one 24-hour period, you could raise the Awesomeness of every member of the board by 1, but if you try to raise it again, you're given an error message that it hasn't been 24 hours yet...but you're not limited to only leveling up one member per day. Feel free to show everyone you think is awesome how awesome they are!!
Now, on IGNO, we use this for completely ridiculous things, but really, it's hard to make awesomeness relevant. Usually, someone will give an Awesomeness point of someone makes a really clever or funny post that deserves it as a reward, so it's motivation for everyone to be on the ball. I also have a habit of using Awesomeness points as both a reward - like if I make an obscure reference, I'll say 'whoever gets it gets an Awesomeness point' - or a punishment (yeah, you can decrease Awesomeness too) - if someone displays misconduct.
So yeah, pretty simple, but with a lot of potential uses, right?
Just click on the + or - for the person whose Awesomeness level you wish to change, and after a brief 'loading' period, a box will appear for you to state your reason for giving out/taking away the Awesomeness. Click 'submit' (hitting the 'Enter' key on your keyboard won't work BTW) and you're done!! Now, you can click on the number of Awesomeness points the person has and a list will come up displaying everyone who gave out the points and their reasons for doing it!! So yeah, remember that your reasons will be publicly viewable to everyone, so try not to say anything you might find embarrassing
But by no means should you skimp out on giving them on special occasions only. Like I said, on IGNO, we tend to toss them around most often for 'I lol'd' posts that we find humorous or clever, or sometimes just because we think someone is more awesome than they're given credit for and deserve an addition of points. It can really be anything, so long as it can be viewed as a deserving reason, not just something stupid like 'lol hi'. Otherwise, go crazy!! Have fun with it, because that's the point!!
So, thoughts? I know LG, XL andBradios UTTF4L are already familiar with this system, though I'd like to hear their thoughts on how well this will work on TxG, as well.

NEW FEATURES!!
Posted by Zombie SG2 (Zombie Admin) at Apr 25 2009, 10:45 AM. 5 comments
I've actually been fucking around with the board code on a test board I made, because I wanted to make IGNO somehow more 'interesting' to try and bring some new activity around (that's actually why I started playing with the skins the past few days, I got distracted), and as usual, anything that's successful on IGNO I try to copy over to TxG, particularly in terms of the overall board layout.
So, now we've got a little quick news box at the top of the board, for those people (I know there are many) who are too lazy to check the Announcements forum regularly!! Each entry has a little snippet of info, and a link to the thread with the full story. I'm also thinking of maybe having a box for my random 2 cents, as well as A22's (like from me, it might say something like 'post in Off-Topic more!!'). But yeah.
So, what's everyone think of this new feature?

Goten Banner?!

Okay, so.
When I made the Trunks banner I didn't even need to go through my folder and search for a good pic - the best one was obvious. Horizontally long, and hot, it was perfect for the banner.
Goten's...is giving me a little more difficulty.
I picked out my favorites and made banners out of them all...and now I'm going to leave it to a majority vote to decide which one we use. For the time being, I picked MY favorite, so I could call the skin 'complete', at least. But if there's another here that a majority likes better, we'll change it.
Just remember it has more to it than just what pic you like the best...it's about which one looks the best on the banner's overall composition, too. There are some pics I like (I LOVE A's pic, one of my teen Goten favorites, but I don't think it looks as good on the banner as B's), but don't feel they work as well on the banners - so think a little before casting your vote.
Man, lucky Goten, huh? He's so popular, it's left to a vote for which pic we should use on the banner!!
Choices:
Banner A
Banner B
Banner C
Banner D
Banner E
Banner F
I like A, B and C, personally.

IGNO Goes Public [CLOSED]

[EDIT: Topic title edited to reflect recent changes in the idea; forget the whole 'week' aspect altogether, we're just going to leave it like this for a while and see what happens.]

...
What?! Better I abuse my power in this way than go on banning sprees, right?!
Anyways, me and my friend John (IGNO member known as Mr. Bones) have been trying in various ways to recruit new members since December...and we've failed repeatedly. And the number one reason for this is undoubtedly because it's hard to get people to join a forum they can't read because it's private - just saying 'join and you can see!!' isn't enough, since most people like to see what they're joining before they do so.
A few months ago, I wrote a note on Facebook where, for the first time in two years, I publicly revealed the URL. For those unfamiliar with the reason IGNO is private in the first place, long story short, an ex-member (used to be a TxG member as well, some of you oldies may remember him...) kinda turned on me and took a personal feud too far, hacking into 2 of my e-mail accounts and my MSN account and deleting 5 years worth of e-mails (from everyone, not just him) and my MSN contact list...so I had devised an elaborate plan to destroy him (it was successful), and part of that plan was to do the obvious - we changed IGNO's URL, made it impossible to find in any search engine, and region-blocked it so IP addresses from where this ex-member lived couldn't access it. The result of this block were actually beneficial, because IGNO got more interesting as we formed something of a closed group, like a high school clique that doesn't let in just any outsiders...but without some new members every so often, things get boring.
TL;DR, the most recent plan I've devised is to turn off the IGNO locks (really, just allowing guests to view the board; you still won't be able to Google it and all that good stuff) for one week...after which I'll simply turn them back on and delete this thread thus removing the URL from this forum. But, for the meantime, you can all actually go to IGNO and see it for yourself - and no matter how many threads I clone or attempts I make at bringing IGNO-esque humor to TxG, it's not the same as the experiencing of examining IGNO on your own computer.
So!! I encourage you all to browse IGNO for yourselves, in hopes that you may like what you see and decide to join us!! If you decide to join, simply register and please send me a PM here on TxG so I know it's you - even if this experiment is temporary, I'm still going to be a little paranoid about who registers. Send me a PM so I know it's you, and not some unsavory criminal type who's stumbling upon it...as I said, the ex-member-turned-hacker was also a member of the old TxG, and while highly doubtful, there's a chance he still lurks this place...you just never know.
So then, here's the link - IGNO
Bear in mind that like TxG we've got a lot of different forums, and actually, most of the forums on IGNO have counterparts on TxG...but the 'main' forum of IGNO, if you will, is of course Off-Topic (and Ghost Town, since threads more than a month inactive usually get moved there to make room for fresh material). Check out the whole place, naturally, but those are going to be the main 'tourist attractions'.
Anyways, I hope you see something that catches your interest, as new members are always welcome. Just remember that while it's far more lenient on rules than TxG (far, FAR more lenient...) I'm still the board leader and Admin, and there are certain things that I don't tolerate there any more than I tolerate here...so if you do decide to join, the same golden rule that applies to TxG applies to IGNO... read the rules of the individual forums before you post!! Believe it or not, there ARE forums on IGNO where, just like TxG, off-topicness is not allowed.
Other than that, I hope you enjoy peering into the depths of insanity in which I and my kin swim in daily.
