Ever raged because you couldn't find your game discs? Or frustrated that it takes you 10 minutes to switch between expansion packs? Well now there's a solution! -->Download the latest game patch, eliminating all of this! How to Play AoE3 Without the Game Discs This tutorial will show you how to make images of your AoE3, TWC, and TAD game discs and mount them in virtual drives so that you don’t actually need the CD in your computer to play. So what do we need to make this work? -A computer -Your AoE3, TWC, or TAD game discs -Said games already installed on your computer (This is just to make things simpler) -A disc image maker (to make the image) -A virtual disc drive (to mount the image) Now, there are many types of virtual disc creation/ mounting software out there, and you can try different ones and see which you like, but for the purposes of this tutorial we will be using MagicIso and Magic Disc to create and mount the discs, respectively. So go ahead and download them both right now. You may need to run the installers with administrator privileges, if you are using Vista. And be sure to download the right versions. Magic Iso: http://www.magiciso.com/download.htm Magic Disc: http://www.magiciso.com/tutorials/miso-magicdisc-overview.htm Now, note that MagicISO is shareware, but there is no time limit for the trial and it will be enough for our purposes. OK, so now that we have all the essential tools at our disposal, we can start. First insert the disc you want to make a virtual image of into your real disc drive. Then open up MagicISO (NOT Magic CD & DVD Burner). It should give you some random trial notice. Ignore it and click “Try it”. ![]() ![]() Now you will be presented with this screen. Click on the Make CD Image file from CDROM button, that looks like a disc and a drive. This dialogue should pop up. Here’s where it gets tricky. ![]() First, select the drive your disc is in from the drop down list (Mine is in E:, and if you’re not sure just open up My Computer to check), and then click the little folder icon beside the Output File blank. ![]() Another window will pop up, asking you where to save the image and what to name it. ![]() I suggest putting it somewhere easy to access like your desktop, because you’ll have to find it later. Call it something relevant to the disc the image will be of, so you won’t get confused if you make images of all your game CDs. Leave the save as type menu as UIF. When you are done click save, and the window will disappear. Don’t touch any of the other settings. You can now press OK, and the program will start creating the image for you. Don’t be surprised if it takes a long time. ![]() ![]() ![]() After finishing the image you will be able to see it on the desktop, or wherever you saved it. Great. You’ve just completed part 1. With that done, now you can open up MagicDisc. A small icon should pop up in the notification area of your taskbar when it has been launched. ![]() Right click it and hover your mouse over the Set Number of Drives Menu. Choose however many as you like, but not more than you need. One is good enough for now. You should get some kind of notification about installing drivers; that is normal and necessary for the creation of virtual drives. After it is done, you can check to see if it was a success by opening up My Computer and looking for extra drive letters. Great. So now we have a virtual image, and a virtual drive. All we have to do now is to put the image in the drive. Right click the MagicDisc Icon again, hover your mouse over the Virtual CD/DVD-ROM menu, hover your mouse over an empty drive, and click Mount. ![]() A new window will open up again, and all you have to do is browse to your desktop (or wherever you saved the image) , open it up, and voila. ![]() You can now pop your real CD out of your real drive, and play AoE3 without it. Just remember that you’ll still need to start MagicDisc everytime you want to play, but you won’t need to mount the image again. And that’s all there is too it. You can repeat these steps to make images out of your CDs and mount them so that you can change versions in less than 5 seconds. Better yet, you now have an insurance policy, and can continue to play forever, even if your real discs have been ruined. Just don’t move or delete the virtual disc image. ![]() Edited by DukeLeto, Nov 15 2010, 09:34 PM.

I don't think the virtual drives will take up any more space than what you already used to install the programs themselves, but the disc images will be anywhere from 500MB-700MB. Realistically though, if you don't have at least a few GBs of free space on your HDD already, your computer is already in trouble. And unless you have a really crappy computer, then the program shouldn't decrease game performance either. |

You are using two virtual drives right? With AoE3 in one and TAD in the other? Don't see why it won't work then, unless you're not clicking the shortcuts

Someone's getting a little defensive, huh? You don't seem to realize that the "you" in my earlier comment was not directed to anyone in particular but instead people in general; this makes me suspect that you (yes, you, t_cfc199) have something to hide. |

well you can only make an ISO if your disc works which isn't the case... as 1x1 said you will probably have to DL an ISO from a different source in which case be careful since can get virus from torrents and stuff.Either that or find someone else who has aoe3 and just install it from them with your CD key |

You can do this with xfire. I just have my games installed, no disc in the drive and on the side where it shows installed games, just click Launch Game and it works. Oh and I got my xfire FPS counter working
