| Sabella | January 23, 2010, 2:14 am Post #1 |

The wind cut through the window of the apartment, and Sabella moved quickly to close it. She turned back to the white crib. Pink lace dipped gracefully up and down the walls behind it. Jasmine Rayne, or simply Rayne, slept peacefully, her tiny hand clamped down on a teddy bear given to her by her godfather, Dan. It had been just a month since Rayne's birth, and Sabella was still healing from the beating she had taken. Her cuts had healed but she had sustained internal damage in her abdomen and of course she had given birth. She was still sore and walked with a slight limp that originated from her midsection. But it was worth it in the end. Sabella treasured her new life with both Jay and Rayne. She had found a love she never expected. And Jasmine, who she now considered her best friend, dropped by daily to help and visit. The mystery of her parents' death was solved, avenged, and Sabella could finally move on. |

The summer breeze had done little to ease Dan's increasing worry about Darkstar's absence. Ever since the their time in Jail the scythe had suddenly, unexpectedly, taken a hiatus from him. It wasn't so much he missed the talking weapon, although in truth he did a little bit, it was that he worried what mischief the damn thing brought with it wherever it went. The raccoon was walking in the park secretly looking for the scythe when he suddenly got bumped into by a thinly, tall man with three set's of wings. The man appeared at least 6' 1" and, despite the heat, wore a light sandy brown trench coat and a matching fedora that seemed right out of the 1940's era. The man, a mix between a leopard and apparently a raccoon, merely said in a light but manly voice; "Excuse me." And tipped his hat at the boy not looking twice. Dan shrugged it off after all the city was just full of eccentric people. He continued to walk down the path thinking of the dark scythe while preparing himself for the train ride back downtown. The man, on the other hand, had vanished from the forest. |

| Solan | January 23, 2010, 9:31 am Post #3 |

Pizza, Solan had come to learn, was a very good thing. Especially the one you didn't need a delivery guy to have it for. This one was house made. The boy had been able to smell it as soon as he entered through the door inside the little appartment. All expectantly he licked his muzzle, rushing over to the kitchen. To guess what was for dessert wasn't hard. Usually ice cream. But what kid would honestly complain about that. Neither did Solan. The boy didn't like talking much. People usually thought he had an odd way of putting things. It made him stand out. And if there was one thing on earth the boy tried to avoid it was being noticed by anyone he didn't know. He didn't know many people at all. So instead of a greeting he rubbed his nose against Frost's upper arm once he got there, for which he actually had to get on the tip of his toes. His eyes moved over the various toppings Frost had laid out and was starting to put on the dough. It looked good, smelled good and would taste just that. The boy smiled and hoped that life would never be any different from this. Knowing that it would. |

Frost had acquired an apartment from the Relic Link after all the 'good' deeds he had performed for them and it didn't take to much effort to move up a few streets to get a bigger one after saving Sabella and taking in Solan. Solan was mostly quiet, content with whatever he was given, and never bratty or power abusive like most boys his age. His age had been a highly debated subject at one point but after seeing a dentist, which Solan had protested a little, it was determined he was at least 10 years of age. When summer ended Frost would have to decide if sending Solan to public school was a good idea or a bad one, he personally had things against a public school but Kalinda had insisted that he should at least experience one year there. Sabella had preferred Solan go to a private school like one of the Relic Link owned ones, unlike Frost who rather liked home schooling, although his legal guardians had become these three and they'd have to eventually settle. Robert had done a thorough search and found no missing children, no orphanage reports, and no records on Solan. The boy's finger prints and DNA matching turned up nothing at all, so everyone had made a joint decision that Solan was special. Thanks to connections that Kalinda had at the Link it was possible to fabricate an ID for the boy so he'd at least appear legally should something happen. Frost pulled the homemade pizza out of the oven and began cutting it; "Solan you hungry?" He smiled a little while putting a small touch of his cold generating powers to use by cooling the food down to the right temperature for consuming. But while he did that he felt something bad might happen sooner then later. |

The boy considered the question purely rhethorical, oddly enough having a concept of that type of question. Frost didn't have to tell him twice to eat. The kid dug right in and ate much more than most other boys at his age. Why they made him see a dentist was something he couldn't understand. After all his teeth were just fine. Eventually he gave in though, seeing as there was no real reason to be scared of the guy either. Nor did he understand why people had this odd obsession with IDs. And the school question was utterly beyond him. Once they had explained to him that private and public school would both involve other kids he was all right with Frost. Mainly because that included not having to put up with other kids, whom he most of the time considered stupid. The events from one months ago seemed to have left little to no mark on him at all, except for an odd fascination with fires in a fire place at which, given the opportunity, he could stare for hours at a time - screensavers worked just as well though. |

After the boy had finished eating Frost finally thought it was time they had the talk that most parents eventually had with their children but usually by the age of 5 or 6. "Solan I think it's time we talk about any abilities or powers you have. Your older then most your age who learn about it; although my mom told me when I was only three." He smiled widely. Powers were something he had seen before. Of course. At the cabin, latest. That he might have some of those as well was something that simply never had occurred to him before. He tilted his head, looking at Frost questioningly. Frost looked at the boy; "You don't know what your powers are do you?" The kid nodded. After all - how was he supposed to know things like that? Nobody had told him, nobody had ever said what to look for. Frost felt a little vexed at this point; he had done an ok job of raising Solan thus far even took him to the park to go boating and walking a day or when he was off from his new job with the Link. Now that he thought about it Solan never showed interest in other children and probably hadn't perceived that the ones that could fly, run faster, or teleport had seemed the same as Solan. "Ahh....well there's one way to find out. Focus on something that you feel a calling for.." Frost then got up and ran some water, cupped his hand under it to catch some, and then froze and began reshaping it into a figure of a little wall. "Try aiming that focus here...use your hands or your eyes, or even your mind but don't touch it." He walked back to the table and set the wall of ice down, it was thick as a book and large as the pizza by the time he had finished shaping it. For a moment or two the boy just looked at Frost blankly. Eventually he heeded Frost's suggestion and looked at the small wall of ice, trying very hard to focus. For a few minutes, nothing happened at all. But then the ice suddenly changed color to a solid jet black. Stayed like this - only to then burst into black flame that scorched the table underneath. Frost acted as quickly as possible to flash-cool the surface of the table and quench the fire. "Well ok....fire's a good power, never saw black before but then again..." He thought back to the man who first attacked him only a month or so ago; "Never saw blue or white till recently." He quickly cleaned up the table and then after several moments commented; "I think we have to rent out the Relic Link's training hall downstairs, you and I can practice our talents all day long with no burning tables." He smiled a gentle, warm smile at Solan and then kissed him on the forehead as he walked back to the kitchen. The boy had looked at the flames with no visible sign of emotion or concern at all. Frost's smile however coaxed one from him as well and he nodded his agreement. He folded his ears back a little, originally having thought that his host might yell at him for damaging the table. Frost walked back to the kitchen; "So I have a surprise for you from Momma-Kalinda." He smiled and held up a set of towels he retrieved from the bathroom; "We're going swimming today so lets get you ready with those swim trunks Momma-Sabella bought you eh?" He finished cleaned up lunch and helped Solan into the netted shorts. As they headed down stairs with towels and lose fitting shirts on Frost commented; "Now the fun part....teaching you to swim in only 5 feet of water." Mention of swimming did the trick all together. The boy was just as stary-eyed at the idea as anyone else would have been. He grinned and followed Frost as quickily as his legs would carry him. |

| Micha | January 24, 2010, 11:46 am Post #7 |

The small fire was burning brightly in the woods, as the young snow leopard Micha purrs happily from the warmth it gave off. Once more she was wearing a bulky sweatshirt, and pants. She was in a good mood, considering she'd had few weirdos to contend with since that day a month before. But on the other hand, things were starting to become rather boring. |
