Taken from the Treve City Bebo community: In BRIEF, however, please remember that the city of Treve is built, quite literally, INTO the cliffs and peaks of the Voltai mountain range. Much of the city is, in fact, built into the rock itself and underground. Tarn cots, in the case of Treve, are actually hobbled into the cliff faces and, while very 'high up' in the cliffs, might very well be 'down below' other parts of the city. Think of it in terms of...levels, and you'll be off to a 'flying' start! Treve has been carved out of rock and sheer determination. It's fog-ladened cliffs are treacherous, dropping away at sharp angles that could, far too easily, leave the unwary traveller (or toddler) walking on air. The only open-air marketplace within the city itself is canopied, as are most of the higher buildings and courtyards, to provide camouflage from the sky above. Here, brilliant 'medieval' style villas (in earthen terms) lace the rocks and sit in close company with one another. The city, as a whole, uses the cliffs and its own, heavy stone buildings as 'walls'. The only true entrance and exit into the city is by tarnback. No roads lead to Treve, though a few have been cobbled inside her walls into the hills. It is said, that for a woman captured and brought into Treve, there is no hope of escape, and that is true. Treve is surrounded by the harsh and unforgiving Voltai range, it's location secret and its defenses heavy. Few men outside of Treve would even risk the climate and conditions of these high mountains on tarnback--it's simply more likely that they'd die trying than that they'd succeed. So, unless someone--a man of Treve with a tarn--is willing to take a woman out, in they stay. Housing is somewhat unique in Treve. Here, Houses are more the quaint villa described above than huge, grand, lofty castles with spires, as in Ar. Very, very FEW people in Treve have any sort of 'yard' to speak of, and many of the outlying cottages are for the keepers of verr, Treve's primary livestock (next to the tarn itself and slave beasts.) Many people, likely, live in flats within the city herself. Safety in numbers and closeness is instinctual to the Trevan way of thinking. The city is not level by any means. Stone steps and breezeways are common and windows and doors likely jump out at the eye all over the place when looking upon it from a distance. |
