~ d r a g o n s ~ Some things you should know about the dragons of Transient Rain Weyr before beginning your RP. Regarding Size & Growth Rate The dragons at Transient Rain Weyr are slightly larger than the typical Pernese dragons. Though there is no set size for any dragon, their growth is stunted or encouraged by various conditions, such as proper nutrition, healthy exercise, and even emotional treatment. Please keep in mind that not all dragons grow up to be large, queen-sized dragons. Even queens can be small. Typically, the smallest a dragon at the weyr will grow to be is around 35 feet long, from nose to tail-tip. This is if the dragon is not only malnourished, but treated poorly by it's rider and doesn't get regular exercise, such as flying and hunting. It is important that during the first month of a dragon's life that it receives proper care, as that is when the dragon will grow the quickest. The largest dragon on record at the weyr was 70 feet long, from nose to tail-tip. Average dragons are usually more around 55 to 60 feet in length. As for their growth rate, the first few weeks are important. For weeks 1-4 after hatching, the dragon does most of it's growing, nearly tripling in size from it's hatching. Because of this, the dragon's hide is sensitive and constantly stretching, as are it's bones. Proper nutrition (feedings twice daily) and daily wash and oiling are required to prevent larger, more important problems down the road. After the first month, for the next five months, the dragon's growth slows down slightly, so washings and oilings happen less frequently. The longest that a dragon that is 1 to 6 months old can go without oiling is three days. Their metabolism starts to kick to a normal level, so feedings can lessen to only once a day. By the 6th month period, the largest a dragon will be is 23 feet. Seven to twelve months after their hatching, a dragon grows to be about two thirds it's full grown size. By this point, they are well over large enough to carry a rider, and after the 12 month mark, they graduate from their weyrling class. They are, at this point, capable of hunting on their own, thus they can feed whenever they want. To keep them from becoming overweight, their riders must make sure that their dragon is receiving the proper exercise to counter that amount of food their dragon consumes. At 18 months after hatching, a dragon has reach it's full size and maturity. Around this point, the female's body begins to prepare for her Rising, and the males become sexually mature. The earliest a female can rise after reaching maturity is three weeks. It is advised that the riders do not engage in any kind of physical romance before the dragon reaches full maturity. Because of the emotional link between rider and dragon, the heightened sexual emotions from their rider can ruin not only the dragon's sex drive, but can lead to sterility and a disrupted Rising pattern in females. However, it is also recommended that a rider is not a virgin by the time their dragon Rises or participates in a flight. As flights are fuelled by lust, regular precaution is not usually taken into consideration. Unless a rider wishes for his or her first time to be rough, intense, and out of control, it is strongly advised that they not be a virgin. It is not uncommon for candidates to be encouraged or instructed to experiment sexually before they stand on the sands. Whether it is with another candidate, a drudge, or an older rider, it is up to them. Regarding Weyrling Training Weyrling Training, technically, happens every day. They will spend weeks perfecting a lesson that their weyrlingmasters have outlined for them, before moving onto the next lesson. For the sake of the RP, we have condensed the 12 months of training into 10 lessons, and graduation. The lessons are outlined below, and are mandatory to attend. If a weyrling misses and entire lesson, that weyrling will not graduate at the 12 month mark, but will stay on for an extra two months of weyrling duties before being promoted to fullridership. The weyrling lessons are outlined as follows: Weyrling Lesson 01: Oiling, Bathing, and Feeding - Weyrlings will learn to care for their dragon's physical needs, including the proper bathing and oiling process, and how to prepare the meat for their dragons. Weyrling Lesson 02: Basic Healing - Weyrlings will learn how to produce various remedies for common dragon problems, as well as their own. Includes numbweed salve and redwort, as well as a stomach settling combination. Weyrling Lesson 03: Firestone Sorting & Wing Exercises - Weyrlings will learn to sort firestone while the dragons will learn proper stretching techniques. Pairs will come together at the end of the lesson to learn wing strengthening. Weyrling Lesson 04: First Flying Lesson & Strap Making - Dragons will learn to fly for the first time, rider will learn to make straps. Weyrling Lesson 05: Flight With Rider - Dragons will first fly with sandbags, then with rider. Weyrling Lesson 06: Long Flight - Field trip, if you will. Weyrlings will take their first long flight and learn basic survival skills. Weyrling Lesson 07: Firestone - Firestone from the ground as well as from the air. Weyrling Lesson 08: Betweening - First Betweening lesson. Short distances, then long distances. Weyrling Lesson 09: Wing Training & Assignments - Weyrlings learn how to fly in formation and receive their wing assignments to begin wintraining with their wingleader. Weyrling Lesson 10: Threadfall Simulation - Weyrlings undergo 2 threadfall simulations, both unannounced, 1 with just their wing, the other with their entire weyrling group. After the 10 lessons have been completed, there is a graduation ceremony, in which the weyrlings are given their rider knots and publicly promoted to fullridership. |

~ o r i g i n a l c o l o r s ~ Argentum Posted Image Appearance: Their hides are a dark blue, matching the color of the twilight sky. Their eyes are always white, resembling moons, and their wing membranes are black. The fact that their eyes are white makes them seem blind at first, but it is a common misconception. General Disposition: The Argentum dragons are proud dragons, and are sometimes cold-hearted in their decisions. They have a dry sense of humor, and are very persuasive. They are a constant source of wisdom, offering small tidbits of information every now and then if they choose to bespeak someone other than their chosen rider. Impression Information: Impress to both male and female riders indiscriminately. Aureus Posted Image Appearance: They are a sandy brown/gold color, resembling the sun-burnt sands of beaches that border the distant ocean. Their wing membranes are a medium brown color, and their claws are either grey or white. Similar to the Elanus’s claws, the color of their claws lighten as they age. General Disposition: The Aureus are klutzy dragons, always blundering and making mistakes. This is just because they easily get the wrong impression about things, and this causes them to make a bunch of mistakes. They have pure hearts, however, and they are always immediately apologetic because of this. They are always trying to do their best, and they often do succeed if they try hard enough. They’re basically dragons that are always born with ADD. They are nervous and twitchy, and can never sit still for long periods of time. Impression Information: Impress to both male and female riders indiscriminately. Elanus Posted Image Appearance: They are a pale, pastel blue color. Their wing membranes are white, and their claws can either be a medium blue or a dark blue color, depending on how old they are. The color of their claws darken as they age. General Disposition: The Elanus dragons are poised dragons, honorable and kind. They are graceful and gentle, and are overall sweet dragons. They’re also extremely perky, happy dragons, especially when they’re hyper. Impression Information: Impress to both male and female riders indiscriminately. Maneo Posted Image Appearance: They are a pitch black color, with small flickers of white that appear on their hides when they are 5 months old and learning to fly. Their wing membranes are a silvery white color, announcing themselves to the world below when they are flying. Their eyes are a beautiful blue color. General Disposition: They are the inspiration to many a dragon, being a role model and ideal dragon. They are well rounded, and they don’t focus on themselves but on others. They are always helping out others, no matter what their own circumstances are, and they are admired for that. Impression Information: Impress to both male and female riders indiscriminately. Nocens Posted Image Appearance: They are a mixture of gold and blue. Their colors range in intensity depending on their riders emotions. Their wing membranes are usually gold, and are rarely blue. Their claws are either silver or gold, depending, again on their riders. If their rider is female, then they have gold claws. If their rider is male, then they have silver claws. General Disposition: The Nocens dragons have fiery tempers, and they are constantly joking around. They love to play tricks and jokes, almost always being the brains behind a joke. They’re full to the brim with sarcasm and humor, and their temper will flare up at any time. They are sweet dragons deep down and have a serious side when they need to be serious. Impression Information: Impress to both male and female riders indiscriminately. Regale Posted Image Appearance: They are a deep scarlet color, with gold interwoven in their hides. Their eyes are red, and they have a golden sun right above their tail. Their wing membranes are either black or white, depending on their rider, and their claws are always silver. General Disposition: They are silent dragons, never speaking, but they aren’t mute. They are the only dragon that possesses the ability to speak to anyone they wish without them being a HAD, but they choose not to speak. They only speak when they want something, and when they do, they speak quietly, almost like a whisper in the back of a persons mind. This quiet attitude hides the strong leadership abilities and kind hearts. Impression Information: Impress to both male and female riders indiscriminately. Rixa Posted Image Appearance: They are a brilliant silver and blue mix. The blues change color periodically, shaded to fit the Rixa’s mood. Their wing membranes are either white or grey, their choice, and their claws are translucent. General Disposition: The Rixas are awfully stubborn dragons, and usually don’t give into the will of others. They are more likely to be the ones in control and have problems when they aren’t. Behind this tough exterior, the Rixas are quiet loners. They prefer to spend times on their own and with their riders. Impression Information: Impress to both male and female riders indiscriminately. Salus Posted Image Appearance: They are a wonderful complementary mixture of red and dark blue, swirling together in a tasteful way. They have a single white splotch on one of their hindclaws, which usually determines if they are male or female. If the white splotch is on the left hindclaw, then it is male, but if it is on the right, it is female. General Disposition: The Salus dragons are vibrant, bouncy, happy dragons with a wonderful sense of humor. They are spacey and incoherent, but with an intense desire to play tricks on people. They are very attractive dragons, not in the physical sense, but it in the way they act. They are like an attention magnet, drawing it to them even unintentionally. Impression Information: Impress males and females indiscriminately. Solieu Posted Image Appearance: Their hides are white, with occasional flickers of light pastel colors in them. Their wing membranes are a pale blue color, and their eyes are always a deep, oceanic blue color. Their claws are usually a light cream color, but can be another pastel color if born late. General Disposition: They are pretty much noble dragons with a sense of chivalry. They never press themselves on another dragon, and never act in a disrespectful way towards anyone. They are kind, honorable dragons that are the most ‘gentlemanly’ of all of them. Impression Information: Impress to both male and female riders indiscriminately. Verae Posted Image Appearance: They are a dark green color, and their wing membranes are a medium green color. Their claws are white, and they have a small silver ring around their left eye. General Disposition: Their personalities vary from dragon to dragon and they are very closed-hearted about their feelings. They rarely show them to anyone, but if they befriend you, feel very lucky, because they don’t trust many. They are anti-social, but they can stomach being around people for short periods of time. Impression Information: Impress to both male and female riders indiscriminately. |

~ n e w c o l o r s ~ Desre Posted Image Appearance: The Desre dragons could be called the cherrywood dragons. Their hides are a swirling mass of dark red and brown, resembling the color of cherry furniture. Their claws are usually silver, but can sometimes be black, depending on the time of year they are born. General Disposition: Unknown. Impression Information: These dragons show no preference towards female and male genders, both in hatching and in impression. The females tend to only choose female mates, and never chase after queens. Males don’t chase queens either, but will choose female or male mates. Females always clutch. Kaitan Posted Image Appearance: Their hides are mostly green, with a single stripe of white scales that run down their spine. Their spinal spikes are also white, though the tips look as though they have been dipped in green paint. General Disposition: Unknown. Impression Information: Impress to both male and female riders indiscriminately. These dragons are both male and female, though they have a tendency to lean towards male. These dragons are non-clutching dragons, and are born sterile. Any dragon that they mate with will produce no offspring. These dragons are born with the special ability to withstand the elements. They feel no wind, no fire, no cold, no rain; nothing. In fact, the only thing they feel is touch. Touch from their riders, from their rider’s mate, from their mate, and anything they themselves choose to touch. Their other senses work just fine, and they can still breathe flame. Serasri Posted Image Appearance: Their hides range from a pale purple to a dark amethyst color, depending on what kind of light they are being observed in. Their wing membranes are blue, the color darkening considerably when they are close to rising. Their claws are dark, nearly black, with silver threads running through them. General Disposition: Unknown. Impression Information: Impress to both male and female riders indiscriminately, except when Runts; when abnormally small, they will only impress to males. These dragons are only female, and almost always queens (dwarfism gene overrides the queen gene). They hatch very rarely to begin with, but when they do it is a sign of great fortune to the Weyr. They can clutch a maximum of 8 eggs, but should they mate with an Argentum, they can produce up to 12, two of which being Queens. Sheru Posted Image Appearance: These dragons resemble an unripe banana. Their hides change as they grow older, starting with a deep green and slowly changing to a bright yellow at their middle years, and then finally becoming brown when they reach their golden years. General Disposition: Unknown. Impression Information: These dragons are generally females that impress to males, but sometimes they will choose a female rider. On the rare case when there is a male Sheru, he will always be large enough to catch a queen in a flight, and he usually does. When a Sheru male mates with a queen, there will always be another male Sheru in that clutch. Also, a Sheru female mates for life, so she will never choose another male unless her mate dies between her flights. Females do not usually clutch. Tyrea Posted Image Appearance: These dragons are both male and female, with rich orange hides. They are often called the All Hallow’s Eve dragons, because their wing membranes and claws are jet black. Instead of spines running down their neck, they have a mane of thick dark hair, which their riders will traditionally braid, and sometimes decorate with beads and stones. When male, the Tyreas will have a single diamond in the middle of their forehead, right between their eyes. However, when they are female, that diamond is nonexistent. General Disposition: These dragons are all about showing off their physical prowess, and often will chase after queens even though they have very little hope of catching one. Impression Information: Impress to both male and female riders indiscriminately. Females never clutch. |
