The Chingling alarm that his grandaughter Daisy had given him went off annoyingly, announcing to the room that it was time to get up at 6:30am. The Professor rolled over & leaned over to the nightstand to try & push the sleep button, only to dislocate his back. "Gah Jeeze!" Old age was beginning to catch up with him; it was a good thing his other grandaughter Marlene was already over at the lab, incase he couldn't get there in time for the new trainers. "No point in trying to catch a few more now..." He winced as he tried arching his back, & fixed it with a large crack. He got out of bed & shuffled around, by the time he was ready it was already 5 to. He hurried out of the house & down the lane to his Research lab; there were no impatient trainers waiting outfront, so he had made it just in time. He entered the lab, to find no body there & nothing ready. "Where is that girl? She said she'd get everything ready." He shrugged & concluded that she probably just slept in; then went about putting out the starter Pokemon for the new trainers that would be arriving any second. As he set the pokeballs out, he couldn't help but daydream about his own Pokemon journey many years ago, no one would think that this old man could have done any of the amazing things he did, & they were a family legacy; his grandson Gary was following in his almost exact footsteps. He snapped out of his revere as he heard a knock on the door. "Oh, the first new Trainer!" He made his way to the door & swung it open. "Why hello there." |

"Jesus CHRIST!" Marna almost jumped when the door was swung open in front of her to reveal the Professor's happy face. Her Lickitung, Leon, sitting behind her was just as spooked, it's tongue rocketing out of it's mouth and landing six feet away in a flower garden. It wasn't like they weren't expecting someone to open the door, but at the moment both of them had been preoccupied with looking at Marna's new nails. "Uuuhhh...Hello!" She replied, giving the older man a sweet smile and trying her hardest to look unphased. "I'm Marna Rhys, from the Johto Radio Station. You're handing out starter pokemon today, right? I was wondering if I could maybe interview you and a few of the new trainers for my radio show." Leon let out a happy "licki licki" from behind her as if the Professor could understand him. In truth Marna didn't want to be here at all. It seemed that here in Kanto not many people knew of her hit radio show and refused to let her interview them. She tried to get gym leaders and celebrities to talk with but no one accepted her offer, this old fart was her last chance on a half interesting story. It was annoying but it was the facts. If she didn't get this the chances are she'd be fired from her job. |

"Oh, I'm sorry about that" He let out a chuckle at lickitung's reaction, luckily, his flowers weren't hurt too badly. "All the way from Johto eh? The Goldenrod station? I used to have a talkshow there a few years back, I'd be happy to be interview material." He said, making his way to the table & picking up a pokeball. "None of the new trainers have arrived yet, but you could fire off a few questions at me." He motioned her in & indicated a chair. "Seeing as how we're on the subject of starters, you'd be interested to know that I started with a Charmander, the toughest to master of the three given out." He pulled a seat up himself, leaving the door open so he didn't have to bother getting up & down, there was a nice enough breeze coming in. "I haven't been interviewed in a while, this is kind of exciting." He said with a smile, tossing the pokeball in the air & catching it mindlessly. |

"Oh it's no problem sir!" Said Marna as she followed Oak inside barely listening to what he was saying. "My fault really, I should have been paying more attention!" "Ah, yeah! I used to listen to your show all the time, it was always so inspiring!" Said Marna. She scowled as soon as Oak's back was turned but her voice remained sickeningly sweet while she spoke. "Thank you so much for letting me do this interview with you Professor, it'll be a good learning experience!" After taking a seat Marna was already bracing herself for the long and no doubt boring speech the older man was going to start. She reached into her bag and got out a small tape recorder and a notebook along with a pencil. She already had a few questions jotted down in the notebook but with any luck some younger, hipper people would come in before she had to ask too many questions. "Well, no time like the present to get back on the interviewee train, right?" She giggled. Turning on the recorder she leaned towards the Professer, already faking interest. "So let's get down to business. Starting out with starters is a wonderful idea! So, what made you choose Charmander as your first pokemon? The loyalty, the power? Do you, or did you, have a penchant for fire type pokemon? " |

Garret had always been an early riser, but today he had gotten up extra early in order to get his bike and travel the long distance from Celadon city to Pallet town. He brought a bunch of poke repellent for when he traveled through Viridian forest, and manages to get by without much trouble. This wasn't the first time he'd been through on his own, at 23 he'd made this trek lots of times. But today was a little different. The decision to get a pokemon wasn't a recent one, having previously been working with his father's health and care clinic he had been pitching the idea of health and care for their client's pokemon as well. He had more of an interest in pokemon breeding and grooming than in training. He would prefer not to fight all the time, and feel the satisfaction of having a happy pokemon. Once he had arrived in Pallet town, he stepped down from his bike. The yellow scarf that hung around his neck relaxed into the gentle breeze, where it had been flapping vigorously as he pedaled. Garret had made the trip in record time, anxious to see the professor today. After all, today was the day that would decide the rest of his life. At least that's how he saw it - he wasn't normally so dramatic, but this was something he had been wanting to do for years. Some of his friends had pokemon in school, and they always laughed and played all together. Seeing how happy those pokemon were had made him so happy in turn. It was his dream to spread those feelings across all the regions of the world. Professor Oak's cottage came into view. He tied his bicycle up at the front and gave a gentle knock at the lab's door before pushing his way in. "Hello? Professor? it's Garret!" As he entered he caught sight of the professor and a reporter, "oh! I'm so sorry to bother you, is this a bad time?" |

"Well, I never really had a preference when it came to types, I always used variety. I think I chose Charmander because of the challenge, I was pretty reckless back then, I thought I could do anything, & I guess that worked out fairly well for me." He said with a modest chuckle. He stood up as the first new trainer arrived. He had stopped by the lab a few times before, but now he was finally coming for a pokemon, & about time too. "Hello there Garret, did you cycle all this way? You must be bushed, have a seat, this nice lady here is Marna from the Goldenrod radio station; She's doing doing a radio show & was interviewing me, about starter pokemon, maybe you'd like to make a contribution?" He put the pokeball back & pulled the table holding the first tier of the 3 starters over for Garret. (sorry for the shortness ;3; it will get better trust me!) |

"A good man never turns down a challenge of course!" Marna chuckled and then jotted something down in her notebook. "So what do you th-" Marna was too happy to be interrupted by Oak getting up to greet a soon to be trainer. She really had no interest in listening to anything some old geezer had to say. She was actually quite happy that the person who had walked in wasn't a snot nosed 11 year old brat, she didn't want to listen to a kid either. Speaking with someone her own age made everything a lot easier for her. Not wanting to beat around the bush she thought she'd get to introductions right away. She turned around in her seat, her hand outstretching to offer a handshake. "Hello Garret, is it?" She put on one of her cutest smiles. "I'm Marna Rhys from the Goldenrod City radio station. Like the Professor here said, I'm doing interviews for my show. If it'd be ok with you, I'd like to pick your brain. You know, really see what the new generation of trainers is all about!" Leon chimed in behind her with a strong, "Lickiiituuuung!" |

Garret was a little dumbstruck, he definitely hadn't been expecting a reporter. It made sense, of course. Professor Oak was one of the most highly respected pokemon professors, and it made sense to interview aspiring trainers. It was like a way of pin-pointing new and upcoming stars to follow around. Then they could claim initial coverage on the next big pokemon trainer. He remembered seeing Professor Oak's own grandson on the television almost once a week at one point. He wasn't sure about it, he was feeling a little nervous and embarrassed. But what was the worst that could happen? "ah, alright, uh, my name is Garret Healey. Is there anything you want to know specifically?" Garret thought about talking about the health spa his family ran, but decided he shouldn't just start going off on a tangent that had nothing to do with pokemon. It was probably better to allow Marna to prompt him. |

Marly burst through the lab door & slammed it quickly with the force of her whole body against it. She thought she was alone, or else this would look really stupid or suspicious...& it did, because there were three other people there, including her grandfather, & there she was, pressed against the door & sopping wet. "Um..." She rung out her shirt & hair as they watched & tried to think up an excuse; she didn't want to explain why she happened to be swimming the Tohjo falls for a good portion of the morning. "Sorry I wasn't here on time Gramps, just I slept through my alarm, & uh,...I kinda wasn't paying attention & walked through the neighbour's sprinkler, heh." She scratched the back of her head nervously; that was stupid. Something started moving in her shoulder bag. She quickly grabbed it, isolating the item from the outside, trying to keep it shut, what she assumed was the Pokemon she had aquired earlier, trying to escape it's pokeball. She grinned stupidly & finally got the thing under control, flipping the bag around behind her back. "Do you still need any help Grandpa?" She asked, trying to look good & helpful infront of the visitors, when it was really the last thing she wanted to do at the moment. |

The Professor chuckled a bit at Garret's nervousness, something he lost a long time ago. He jumped as the door slammed, clutching his chest as if he were experiencing his second heart attack. "Marlene! What took you? You're soaking wet." He gave his visitors an apologetic look before bringing his attention back to his Grandaughter. "Now, what's the story?" He listened to what she had to say, it sounded true enough, there was that one Neighbour that had to overdo their lawn by watering it ALL hours of the day, he doubted one could get totally soaked by a sprinkler, but what was he gonna do, call her a liar? He noticed the movement in her bag & could tell by the shape of the bulge, & it's twitchy movements that it had to be a Pokeball. "What's that Marlene? Did you catch a Pokemon there? Your Pokeball seems to be erratic, let me see it, I can fix it." |
