James' recovery process has run its course, and he'll make his Grapefruit League season debut on Thursday, when he starts against the Tigers in Lakeland. The 26-year-old left-hander is scheduled to complete two innings.

"I'm at least getting to do everything now, which is nice," James said.

Because he's just now preparing for his first start, James isn't expected to be ready for the start of the regular season. But if his shoulder stays healthy, there's certainly a chance that he could find himself back in the rotation this season.

Hopefully he will not push it and will be ready to contribute later in the season.

I am glad he is getting better but I sure hope he does not just get his way back in the rotation that quick and not give JJ a chance. I would love for JJ to see a moajor part in the rotation this year.

yea i think chuck james will probably start the year in AAA...that way he doesnt have to rush himself back into shape and can take sometime to recover...

also it could give him the chance to develop his slider or another pitch. chuck has become too reliant on the fastball/changeup combo. that combination has proved successful for him thus far but the development of another pitch could improve his value even more.

James had another good start today in a minor league game.

James, in a start against Cleveland's high-Class A team Monday, allowed just one hit and recorded three strikeouts in three innings. That is 5 scoreless innings in two starts so far this spring.

This presents a good problem. I really dont think he will start the season in AAA.

This is some quotes from BC in DOB blog:

Quote:

It's been assumed he'd open the season at Class AAA Richmond, though Cox said Monday that's not a decision that's been made.

"Not necessarily," Cox said. "We're getting him ready. We'll see."

Asked about the possibility James might be considered for the relief/spot-starter job, Cox said, "I don't know. He's too good of a starter, maybe."
