Lillibridge keeps battling for roster spot

It seems Brent Lillibridge is making a serious bid for the super utility role. He played 3B in place of Chipper Jones and batted leadoff.

Considering that Infante is going to start the season on the DL, we will need a super utility guy and if Lillibridge can fit the bill until Infante returns, I would say let him compete.

Here is what BC said about Brent:
Quote:

"Infante's not going to be able to open with us, so we need to fine someone who can play third," Cox said. "Lilly can play third, maybe center field ... he does everything pretty good. He's got speed, good hands, got some power — what did he have last year, 15 [home runs]?"

Here is TP's take on Brent:
Quote:

"He's a workaholic type kid, and he wants to get better," hitting coach Terry Pendleton said of Lillibridge. "He knows how to play the game. He's got baseball savvy. I have confidence in him, absolutely."

Got to love Brent's attitude in approaching this entire situation:
Quote:

The great thing is that Bobby has been doing the right thing in these situations for so many years," Lillibridge said. "He has a great eye for players and putting them where they can be successful. Like putting me at third today to see how I react.

"I'm just going out there trying to relax and enjoy it, see how I react. I'm getting ready for the season, and I want to be here to help this team try to win the NL East. But if I'm not here, then I'll go and have a ridiculous [big statistics] year in Triple-A."

Got to love this kid's attitude, he has it right. If he ain't playing with the big club, he will go down and have a big year down at Richmond. He has all the tools that we need. I pity BC and coaches when it comes to making the decisions they have to make in regards to this team this year, these guys are making it that way with the way they are playing.

I am pulling for Brent to make it.

I would just as soon use Lilli the whole season over Infante.

I agree, just as long as Bobby can find a way to get him plenty of AB's. If not, let him get his swings in the minors for another season. He needs as many AB's as he can get.

I dont think he will have a problem getting ABs with Kotsay and Chipper on the roster. Plus he can spell Esco at short. He could get maybe 2 starts a week, plus pinch hit abs.
