LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- After the first week of workouts, Mike Hampton has been the most pleasant surprise in Braves camp. His twice-surgically left repaired elbow has remained sound and his right hamstring passed its latest test when he had to react to two batted balls during Friday's workout at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex.

Looks good, hopefully he can keep it up.

Maybe he was using urban slang

(Bobby Cox): Yo, what up Jurrjens, hows that shoulder fool?

(Jurrjens): What up dawg, it's tight bro.

If he gets a few starts under his belt and he makes it through those with no problem, I think folks, Hampton is back and we have our #4 starter. Which would be a big bonus to us and would a very unexpected surprise to the Mets and Phillies in my opinion.

They probably were figuring Mike wouldn't be back and if he tried, he would get hurt and back to the DL he would go.

Now the battle is for the 5th spot, that is going to be the battle to watch, if Hampton has gotten the 4th spot secured.

I love that we have all these guys battling for a spot in this rotation. Whoever gets beat out, the others go to Richmond and make their starting rotation very strong, what a nice bonus for them, to get a few major league ready pitchers for their starting rotation.

I would love to see chuck and Jurrjens stay up in the bigs but i think that Chuck will be the fifth guy even though I would love to see Jurrjens in the fifth spot.

Wouldn't it be amazing if he won 15 or more games?

My blinders say 16 games. We got some nice blinders guys.

Seriously guys, if we got 16 wins from him and 30 to 32 starts from him, that is nothing but a huge bonus for us, considering the Braves were not expecting much if anything from him at all.

That would off set would Santana would give the Mets, just a opinion if you ask me.

Look at our rotation with our options:
Hudson-17 wins
Smoltz-16 wins
Glavine-13 wins
Hampton-16 wins
James/Reyes/Jurrjens/Bennett/Carlyle/Morton-whoever gets the job, i will say 12 wins.

Imagine the battle for the 5th spot between those 6 guys with one of them possibly getting the long reliever and the others going to Richmond to make up their starting rotation.

For once, Roger and Bobby have a nice pitching problem instead of looking for someone or someones to fill those last two spots, you actually got competition this year.

CJ is actually behind and with that shoulder, Jurrjens has the slight advantage and CJ does have options still, it might not be a bad thing to let him head to Richmond, strength the shoulder and work on another pitch or work out of the bullpen and be that "6th starter" to give guys like Glavine and Smoltz an extra day off.

It is good to see Hampton healthy. Double figure wins for all 5 guys.
