Re-Signing Frenchy

From Rotoworld:
Quote:

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's David O'Brien, the Braves and Jeff Francoeur could come to terms on a long-term deal within the next couple of weeks.
Francoeur will be arbitration eligible for the first time next year and a free agent after 2011. He has the same amount of service time as Ian Kinsler, who just signed for $22 million over five years. Odds are that he'll want more than that in order to give up any free agent seasons.

You get him locked up now, then all the focus can be put towards dealing with Tex and getting him locked up.

You want to these three guys as the faces of the Atlanta Braves after Chipper and Smoltz retire:
Mark Teixeira
Brian McCann and
Jeff Francoeur.

When you mention the Braves, those three are who you are going to think of immediately.

With Heyward waiting in the wings, the last thing we need to do is sign a .265 EqA rightfielder that brings nothing but a good arm to a long term deal.

I know he's home grown. I know he smiles a lot. I know he's good friends with McCann. I know he has like OMG assists. I also know he's a corner outfielder with a VORP hovering around 20, and his K/BB ratios do not support him hitting .290 on a consistent basis at all. If he was hitting 50 home runs a year, I'd be ok, but he's not. 30-35 HR power is a lot more likely, and I'm not a Dave Kingman fan.

As far as the face of the franchise thing goes, having a marquis guy that the word "Braves" makes you think of doesn't win baseball games. And neither do .265 EqA rightfielders.

I like the move by the Braves trying to sign him long term. I can alomst gurantee that he will be alot better than what he has been in the past. His k's to walk ratio is alot better than what it was two years ago. Not everyone is top dog material, but Jeff will be in a year or two.

Who else would you want in right field that has a canon like Jeff?

Someone with an RAA better than 1. He can throw a baseball. That's all he contributes defensively.

Offensively, on what basis is he going to be top dog? He showed a little improvement in his K/BB ratios, but nothing to indicate any vast improvement this year. And PECOTA shows that we really shouldn't expect any significant differences in those numbers as he ages.

Not to mention, his .290+ batting average sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of his line.

Ok that is fine you will see that Jeff will become a better player in the next couple of years.

NO is K/BB ratios was not a huge difference than the year before but did he not improve come on he will get better in time. Again I may have my blinders on but they dont come off for anything until they are traded.lol I guess I have alot of faith when it comes to braves players.

Kid is 24 dude. Oh yeah, he does win games. He is always the one you see getting game winning hits. He has a gold glove and he sure as hell is better than any other right fielder in the nl east. Find some players that have done what he has at from 21-24 in the majors then we will talk. Most of them are probably HOFers.

Get it done. If Francoeur is locked up now, then Tex will be the next problem to be solved, (in a good way). Frenchy is the next face of the franchise along side McCann and possibley Teixeira. He has improved greatly throughout his 3 years of playing baseball and it seems every year he gets better and better. With how he's been playing I see a great use and lots of wins from him in the near future. Locking him up will be the next best thing and a step to a great team for the Braves knowing that soon Chipper, Smoltz, Glavine, and the other great veterans will be retiring and having these young players is great for the team. Hopefully it'll happen.

I can't see anyone else in right field with the arm and talent that Frenchy has.
