MBV 3D Tears Up International Markets

Posted Image

July 31, 2009 -- With a little…actually make that a lot…of help from foreign markets My Bloody Valentine 3D has pulled ahead of the Friday the 13th reboot, to become the second top-grossing, slasher remake.

Only the 2003 version of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre made more money in theatres, worldwide.

MBV 3D, starring Jensen Ackles of course, also did boffo sales in the US DVD market.

I was going to write a detailed analysis of all the stats but the numbers really do speak for themselves, so I'll just stay out of the way.

Before we get there, keep in mind both MBV 3D and F13 starring Jared Padalecki, are slated to open in more foreign territories, so none of these numbers are final. Same goes for the DVD sales, which change week-to-week.

Apologies for the slightly blurry image of the table.

If you want to see my OCD table of how all these movies did individually in various markets, click here (updated Sept. 4).

Then come discuss Jensen Ackles’ box office success in the MBV 3D thread.

And last but, by no means least, thanks to Rascal for the idea. --99mangoes

UPDATE:
August 1 --
Naturally Box Office Mojo updated after I posted this. They are now reporting MBV's foreign market take as $40,768,208. That puts the worldwide total at [rainbow]$92,314,160.[/rainbow] By the way, we can thank Germany, Russia, Austria, Norway and South Korea for that last little boost.

IMDB is reporting that MBV opens in Argentina on the 13th of August, Denmark on the 21st, Venezuela on the 28th and Spain on September the 18th.

Thanks to ventress and Rascal for the heads up.

UPDATE 2:
August 23
-- The latest foreign BO numbers have reached $42,254,898, taking the film's world-wide total to $93,800,850. DVD sales have reached $18,557,648. Our little movie that could, is still going strong folks.

The reported foreign totals have also increased slightly for The Unborn but have not been updated for F13. The OCD chart linked above, has the most recent break-downs. --mango
