At his side, Aurora rested easily. More easily than she has in a long, long time, really. She's just now waking up, watching him quietly, settling close. Closer than she's been to any man since she was much, much smaller. Mm.

Really has a hold on her, doesn't he?

Eventually she's sliding to her feet, feeling a touch restless even still, and is claiming a few pieces of clothing here or there to cover up with in case of others barging in. Best not see her that way.

No. That was just~ for her Blivvy.

...

Her Blivvy?

Geez...

Even so, she couldn't help but smile to herself at the thought. Hers. All hers. Maybe...

Successfully landing herself a shirt- one of his button-ups, and so ridiculously large on her that she doesn't bother with pants; it may as well be a dress!- she heads for his kitchen to fetch herself some water, wobbling a bit.

Mm. This feels strange. Was it always like this, after...?

Dizzy, room spinning a touch.

Man, she really needs that water.

As soon as she gets it, she's gulping it down thirstily, brushing a hand through her hair almost anxiously. And then she's getting another, to repeat.

And another after that.

And another.

By her fifth glass she's worried. Her feeling is just getting worse, as is the pressure in her head.

No, not here. Not now. She can't be having one now of all times.

Gods...

Marcus... Shiver.

He needs to sleep. He can't know about this. The instant she's realizing that, she's moving to claim a seat somewhere, anywhere that she might sit rather than stand, for fear of falling down while she struggles.

It's okay, Sterling. You can do this. You've been doing it your whole life, you can do it now, too.

And~ up the wall goes, she trying desperately to prevent him from getting into her mind to help while she handles this Vision. Hopefully it won't be one of the nastier ones...

Marcus stirred in his sleep, grimacing.

He and Aurora were walking down Metro City street, when she pointed to a shop and walked inside. With a chuckle, he strolled in after her.

But as soon as he'd arrived inside, the shop had shifted into a large metal cavernous room, the ceiling so high it was covered in shadow.

"Where'd you go?" he murmured, glancing around the room.

He took a step forward, willing himself upwards. His body began to float higher toward the dark ceiling with each step.

I'm dreaming.

Marcus pushed ahead with the thought, forcing his body to sail into the air as if he were weightless. The darkness came closer and closer with each moment.

Then, it was as if he blinked, and it was all around him. Only now, it was swirling into a variety of colors and blurred images.

And something about this place didn't feel... terrestrial any more.

What is that? He squinted to better make out the shapes forming around him.

"I'm going to Earth, Vetar. I have to help. I believe... it is my destiny.

My only regret is... I will miss you."

Aurora stirred a bit from where she was, but just tucked herself up tighter in her spot- shivering a bit. She felt it- felt him in her mind. But no, she won't let him near the vision, won't let him near her to know what's wrong. He needs his rest.

---

It didn't take long. As soon as her mind knew it was to keep it from him, it was working for a distraction- to keep him occupied. Memories, to keep him busy.

It looked to be many, many years ago. A few children playing in a schoolyard, one in particular- with eyes of an odd, silvery color- sitting off by herself, drawing. Or writing. Maybe some combination of both. Whatever it is, she looks content- satisfied to be by herself and in her own little world...

Flash forward.

Now it's something else. Same girl, definitely, but a bit older, more haggard. Hiding in an alley, it looks like, while sirens blare in the street- she, the one they search for. She can't be over eighteen; no younger than sixteen. A tiny voice at her side pipes up in question, "Will we be safe, 'Rora?" The little girl- Shiloh, maybe five or six, clutching a ragged teddy bear tightly, almost as though for dear life- getting a smile and a snack of M&M's from her. "Yes, Shy, we'll be safe. Don't worry, hm?"

And another flash.

It's hard to tell if it's forward or back this time. Probably back, for how much cleaner and healthier she looks. She's glaring, hard, at what seems to be her parents- neither of whom look even a little bit like her. Tears streak down her face, and her fingers twitch a bit- like she's itching to just grab on and never let go for knowing how bad it'd hurt them. After all, they'd hurt her, too. Only fair she get them back for it.

"We're sorry, Aurora. It's for your own good, and the good of the others." Says the woman, looking hard- not like a mother should towards her child, but who else could it be? Even without the resemblance. "It's just better. You can get the help you need."

"I'M NOT
INSANE." Yelled Aurora, lunging for her parents, looking ready to claw their eyes out. The dad shoves the mother back, taking the brunt of the hit while men in white coats quickly enter the room and work to subdue her- carefully, not about to touch skin on her arms. They'd been forewarned. Her parents had been bold to face her like that.

Flash again.

She can't be more than six. Maybe seven, at most.

Within moments, a group of kids are wandering over, being nosy at her work and trying to grab it from her- they, receiving nasty glares for it. "Go away," She snapped at them all, still glaring. They persist.

One in particular, bigger than the rest, comes over and tries to snatch it from her- hold it up high, over her head. He does, but a teacher- or at least what seems to be one- comes by and takes it, scolding the boy for bullying so. Then the bell rings, sharp and loud. Saved by the bell, literally.

But before she can leave, the teacher is handing her her book, and bending slightly to be more at her height- friendlier, this way. "Aurora, see me after class, will you?" He says, giving her a fond pat on the head for her agreeable nod and then taking it upon himself to escort her inside the building.

Flash.

She looks to be twenty or so years old, standing in the face of some nameless figure, wounded and at his mercy. But the person stops just short of the finishing blow. Tells her she's skilled. He could use a set of skills like hers where he's from, might recommend her to them for the 'right price'. Good money to be made, a safe place for someone like her.

She snapped.

'Someone like me?'

She picked up the nearest blunt object and beat the man to death with it. Enraged and covered in blood, she just stands over his body when done, about growling. Looking dangerous. Anyone wandered on her right then, she'd kill them, too. Just because.

Flash.

Sirens, loud and blaring. An officer nearby, talking on his walkie talkie about some escapees from a local insane asylum. Two. One child, one adult. As soon as she hears them chattering about it, Aurora's off, bolting deeper into the alley after scooping Shy up, making sure she isn't touching any skin. Time to run, buckle down and be safe for a while. Survive.

Flash.

Back of some kind of van, an ambulance of sorts. The white-coated men are there, as is Aurora, arms hugged about herself by force of a coat- so forcibly that they've come dislocated, and she's crying for how bad it hurts. Begging them to take it off of her. It hurts. Please, take it off, I'll be good- I'll behave. Just please...

"Please... make it stop..."

And they do. Everything went black.

Flash.

She's young, again. Nine, possibly ten, out in the fields playing with children who look quite a bit like her- siblings, probably, though she'd never have talked about them. She's in a bad mood so she's taking it out on the girl of the children, chasing her around and just generally playing tag, but being a bit rougher with it.

And finally...

Flash.

The only thing that stops her from seeking out another victim is the tiny voice that pipes up next, quiet and uncertain. "'Rora, what's wrong?"

Has her easing immediately. Shy. Quickly she drops the object and is hurrying to go putting on a smile for the child, assuring her that all is well. This time, the girl's maybe eight, or nine- still hugging that bear for dear life, though it looks a lot more worn by now, a few hastily sewn on patches covering up tears or stitching coming apart.

For the past few years this child is all she's known. She has to protect her. Keep her safe. Find her a safe place, at least.

"I have some good news," She says to the girl as she embraces her- sure to slip on her gloves beforehand, naturally. "I think..."

"I think I've found us a home."

Flash.

"TAG! You're it!" She yells, but instead of patting and running off, she's catching the other's arm in the hope of making her trip and fall. Mean, yeah, but it could have been worse.

Within seconds the girl is on the ground, writhing in agony- the other children, running top speed to join her, to shove and push Aurora away with calls of "Monster!" "Freak!" "Get away from her!"

Which... all had her nearly in tears, herself. She hadn't done anything wrong but now she's the bad guy? And ooh, does she snap. The next hours are a blur- it might even be another flash- but afterwards, Aurora is standing there over the bodies of her siblings, hard of breath.

Once she catches it, she lets out a manic laugh, then heads for home to fetch her teddy bear- the very same that Shy never dared part with- and a bag with a change of clothes, and then leave.

Flash.

The sun looks to be setting, or at least lower than it ought to be. Aurora, seven, is sitting at a desk, all by her lonesome in the classroom, finishing some test or another with the teacher watching. The same man from the playground. A bit creepy, how he's staring, the way he almost seems to be salivating over her, but she doesn't notice. Or doesn't care.

She finishes, and walks up to his desk to hand in her paper. Bids him goodbye.

He gets to his feet and walks with her to the door, putting on a cheery, friendly face.

But instead of opening the door, he locks it. Aurora looks scared. Shakes her head. Bolts for a window. Gotta get out, gotta get out, gotta...

Before she can get far, he's snagging her up by her hair. Hefting her up onto his desk after shoving everything off of it. This. This is all he's dreamed of the entire year. He's got the girl pinned down under him while he's trying to work her clothes off- all the while she's kicking and screaming and putting up as huge a fight as she can.

And then, wonder of wonders, she finds a pencil.

It goes straight into his jugular, with an almost surgical precision.

It's enough to stop him, get him off of her, get him dead within seconds.

She tries to stop the bleeding, but can't. Isn't enough. Now she's crying, covered in her assailant's blood.

As the realization hit her, her crying- her sobs- turned to a twisted laughter, and she sank to the floor to await being found.

Flash.

A fonder memory. The beach. Him, and her, cuddling up. This one, a dream, because they're snogging. Heh.

Fear.

Betrayed. Rage.

Rage. Rage. Rage.

Desperation. Pain.

Foreign emotions flooded over him--feelings so strong that the images themselves started to fade from his mind. All he could focus on was himself, clutching his head as the emotions threatened to drown him. He couldn't breathe. He couldn't breathe.

Marcus's hand shot up, fingernails slamming into the wood of the end table on his side of the bed. Black shadows erupted from his body, licking at the bedframe like flames.

"I'LL KILL HIM--" Marcus roared as he lurched up in bed.

The shadows dissipated instantly.

He was panting heavily, sheets thrown away from his bare chest. His crimson eyes roved around the room wildly... then began to calm... then softened as he fully came to.

Aurora, in tears by now, jumped slightly at the roar, then relaxed a bit. Marcus is awake. Guh.

She tucks herself up in her seat, about curled up into a ball while she wars with the vision, struggling to keep conscious and keep the migraine at bay. No.. no. Go... away.

Mm. Who's he going to be killing? Some guy. Maybe that uncle of his, wretched man. Deserves death.

Nnh... wince. Cue sipping~. More water, more...

He finally found Aurora, grimacing. He could feel another wave of emotions, this time current emotions from her. Pain--she was in a lot of pain.

He went to toss off the rest of his sheets, then glanced down, as if suddenly remembering the night prior.

"Aurora..." he murmured softly as he hopped out of bed, shoving open his pants drawer and tugging on a pair quickly.

He'd barely buttoned up his jeans before he was vaulting over the bed and crossing the room to the kitchen area where she was sitting. "Another one?" he asked, already sure he knew the answer.

She blinked some, like she's surprised to see him there. O-oh. Right. He'd woken up. She'd failed. Hadn't tried hard enough.

Just another thing done wrong. All your fault. Sigh.

But she doesn't show that, just gives a faint smile and snicker. "Smart guy, aren't ya? Yeah... another one." She answers more seriously with the last bit, quieting. Mm.

"I didn't... I wasn't expecting you to... wake up for a while," She adds after a moment, watching- unable to help herself. He is her favorite distraction, and right then, she really needs one. Bad.

Her disappointment hit him like a truck. He almost went reeling backward.

Where did these come from all of a sudden...? he wondered while resting his forehead against hers, setting each of his hands against her temple. He knew he'd connected to her mind and that there'd be side-effects, but it hadn't felt nearly this strong even just a couple days ago...

On an impulse, he stole a quick kiss.

"Okay, I'm going in, all right? Meet you on the beach in two shakes."

He stared into her eyes, to make sure she'd heard him. Looking for a quick confirmation, he supposed. Being bombarded by foreign emotions wasn't exactly leaving him on the best footing.

She hummed, relaxing considerably with the contact. Mm. Her Blivvy is here. Right~ here.

And~ ooh.

A kiss. Got her smiling a bit, at that. Mm~. Oblivion. Fresh taste.

Delicious~.

She stares right back, nodding some- stealing back that kiss as she does.

"Can't wait," She answers hoarsely, already starting to look a bit more hazy-eyed- the visions starting to win out. She'd argue, insist that he not, but she doesn't have it in her. Barely has the strength to not be keeled over and screaming in agony, anymore. Tough work, this, especially after feeling someone sift through her memories like that. Guh.

Better hurry, Bliv.

A flash of pale yellow light enveloped them and then it was warm. Warm and bright and sunlit.

Ocean waves crashed rhythmically in the breeze that swept through the palm trees and their hair.

"How you feeling?" Marcus was instantly asking. No wisecracks. No sarcasm. No teasing. He was genuinely concerned--worried.
