He collapsed in a heap into the chair, cradling his head in his hands for a minute. He'd finally caught his breath now.

Marcus coughed, then glanced up at Aurora with a weak little smile. "Um, yeah." He coughed again to get more crap out of his throat. Cleared his throat. Shook his head. "Peachy." Marcus's characteristic sarcasm was back.

His smile went from sincere and tired to twisted amusement. "Got an ugly reminder of my uncle."

He glanced away from Aurora. "Sorry you had to see that." He paused, turning back to her. "Uh... I didn't... You didn't get hurt during that, did you?"

"I'm going to Earth, Vetar. I have to help. I believe... it is my destiny.

My only regret is... I will miss you."

She watches him hesitantly, before she's moving to stand before him and go brushing at his hair some. Gods, that'd been awful. Just... the worst. The absolute worst.

So bad that she doesn't even crack a smile when he makes the 'peachy' comment. He may well not have said it at all.

When he asks if he hurt her, she shakes her head quietly, before she's ever so carefully picking up the other one and setting it at his side, so she, too, could sit. Her legs were shaking so bad. She was so freaked out.

"It's fine, I'm... fine. I'm... I'm glad that you're okay, Marcus." She says, sounding tired. All that panic will do that to a person.

"Can't believe just remembering your uncle caused all that to happen..." She mutters quietly, giving a soft sigh. Gods.

She hoped that never happened again.

The corner of Marcus's mouth twitched as he leaned back in the chair, crossing his arms over his chest. "Yeah, well... My relationship with my uncle was... complicated."

He glanced up at her, tried to crack a smile. "Right. Cliche. Sorry."

Marcus sighed heavily, exasperated, and ran a hand through his damp hair before realizing what a mess he was. He sighed again and rose from the chair, strolling across the room (slowly--he was still recovering) and stripping off his sweat-soaked shirt.

He tossed it on the bed and popped open a drawer, rifling around for a clean T-shirt.

Gave him an excuse not to look her in the eye as he divulged his life story.

"So. You already know my mother is Overseer Evanesce, right?"

He nudged over a pile of jeans.

"Well, my father used to be pretty high up on the Brotherhood chain of command, too. 'Zero' Foraza. It was a while ago. You might not have heard of him.

"I say 'used to be' because at some point, he started losing it. Royally losing it.

"Official reports said that he suffered from Dissociative Identity Disorder. But Mom was the only one who knew what really happened."

Ozida fell onto his knees, finally beaten. He looked up to Zero. After seventeen years, he'd finally gotten the reunion he'd never known he'd ached for.

"I love you, big brother," he whispered, even as his body dissolved into a white dust and floated towards Zero.

Zero stood, blood covering all parts of his body. "I love you too... Little brother..."

The dust struck Zero and absorbed into his body. He began to twitch, and he fell to his knees, coughing up blood.

Then he looked up to the moonlit sky.

"Does it really end... here?"

He fell backwards, lying on the ground, staring into the sky.

"To this day, she doesn't know how it happened, or why. But somehow, my uncle's soul joined my father's body."

Marcus pulled a black shirt out of the drawer, examining it for a moment.

"And we all found out the hard way: two souls in one body don't mix."

"Dad? Is that you?"

The figure grinned, a line of blood trickling down the side of his mouth.

Marcus tugged on the shirt with a grunt.

"See..." His explanation had begun to slow down now. He was choosing his words more carefully as he crossed the room again, heading toward Aurora. "Thing was, they were constantly competing for control of the body. Even though it was my dad's, my uncle was pretty strong. So whoever took over usually came down to whatever my father was feeling at any given moment. Certain emotions, it was easier for him to take over his body--love, happiness. But then there were some that made it easier for him to lose control, for my uncle to take over.

"Like anger."

He tugged the chair so it faced Aurora rather than sitting side-by-side.

"And my dad and uncle both had plenty of reasons to get angry."

He spun the chair around, straddling the seat and leaning on the back of the chair.

He was quiet for a while, not meeting Aurora's eyes. Lost in thought. But he shook himself out of it quickly as he continued in a soft, slightly strained voice, "My uncle was a former Titan whose powers went out of control, which led him to go rogue. His codename was Panic.

"He could make you live out your worst nightmare.

"And ah..."
Marcus's voice cracked for a moment. His hands started to shake, and he rested his chin on his arms to cover it up. "He didn't like me much. So... whenever Dad got angry... or in fact, usually whenever Panic wrestled control from him...

"He liked to use his powers on me."

Blinding light. It was stinging his eyes. He could feel his powers draining away already.

"H-hello?" Marcus called. It was his thirteen-year-old voice, warbling with uncertainty in an empty, echoing room.

He still couldn't see. It was so bright. He was lying on something cold and metallic, strapped so tight he couldn't move.

"Uh... h-hello? Is anyone there?"

Footsteps clacking on tile. No response.

But those footsteps were starting to bring a silent dread.

His vision was starting to come back now. There were blinding spotlights everywhere, all around him, illuminating every inch of him. He was strapped to a gurney. And next to the gurney, a table of scalpels, hooks, scissors, needles, and injections.

He knew what those were for.

The silent dread instantly became ice fear.

"N-no, no, please," the boy began to beg. "P-please, you don't have to... Please, no, don't..."

Tears leapt into his eyes. He had to get away! He had to get out!

He started pulling against the bonds, but they were titanium. And the light... the lights that were so bright they were starting to burn his skin... He was powerless.

"Please... please, don't do this. Please, I can't... I won't--" Tears were flooding his vision. He gasped, yanking uselessly against his bonds. "Please!"

The figure finally loomed into view, a tall doctor in scrubs and a facemask. Only the eyes were visible.

Those brown eyes that seemed so innocent, but that always burned eerily when they stared at him. "Well, Marcus, how about we get started?" He picked a scalpel off the table.

"No, please!" Marcus whimpered, watching his terrified reflection in the stainless steel blade. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry, Uncle Ozida! I won't do it again, I swear!"

"Are you crying? Don't you dare start crying, Marcus..."

"NO! PLEASE! PLEASE, UNCLE, I'M--"

And then, the excruciating pain would start. The pain that somehow only got worse the longer it went, the more he thrashed, the longer he whimpered apologies for whatever minor infraction he'd committed.

Marcus finished relating the nightmare, face still resting on his arms.

"...And that's what you saw."

She relaxed, slowly, into a more natural version of herself as he moved about, listening intently- struggling, hard, to keep herself still and keep herself from speaking. She didn't want to know just how off it still sounded.

When she heard, all she could do was frown more than she already was.

Gods... What hell had he been through as a child.

It was too much, for anyone. No wonder...

"Marcus, I..." I'm at a loss for words.

"I don't..." I don't know what to say.

"I..." I'm sorry.

I'm sorry.

"I'm sorry" really didn't seem to cut it, for her, so she, without really saying anything else, gets up for all of the two seconds her legs will support her for.

She rests a hand on his shoulder.

Nudges his arms out of the way.

Claims a seat on his lap.

And then, once she's seated, carefully wraps her arms around him and gives him a tight hug.

It's okay, Marcus.

I'm here, and that will never happen to you again so long as I live.

That's what she tried to convey with the simple gesture.

He hesitated a moment, arms held out wide, staring at the wall and then glancing at Aurora. He honestly didn't know what to do for a split second.

Of course, she probably had no idea that he had heard everything she'd been trying to say. Not that he was going to tell her that now. Or ever.

Marcus lightly wrapped his arms around her. Then held her firmly but gently.

He blinked back tears and tugged her a little tighter.

"It occurs to me that this is the first time we've been like this in the physical world..." Marcus observed absently, his throat constricting as more tears misted his eyes.

She hummed. Was it really the first time they'd been like this in reality?

"Is it?" She questions quietly, thumbs tracing small, soothing little circles on his back. Thinking back, she realized he was right. They'd only ever been this close in the 'dream world', on their beach, in their hammock. Even then, they hadn't... she hadn't...

"We'd never kissed before, either, in either worlds." She adds, giving him a light squeeze- unable to stop her mind from wandering back to that moment.

Circumstances aside, she'd.. She'd really enjoyed that kiss. And, much as she felt somewhat somber and solemn right now...

She really couldn't help but think that she'd like another, sometime. It was nice. So, maybe, with better circumstances attached, it'd be even better.

He ignored a couple of warm tears that slipped down his face.

He could feel her drawing him in. Irresistible, like a fragrance. His barriers were wearing down. He was falling so fast, he could see his walls whizzing by.

For a split second, he wanted to grab at them. Hold onto them to anchor him down. After all, he had to hang on. He needed those to give him an edge. The smirks and the sarcasm, the retorts and the jeering--all the things that made him stronger, more powerful. They were his only advantage in this stacked game.

But she...

Marcus closed his eyes and just... let himself slip into it.

Why not.

His body began to move on its own.

No pre-planning. No thought. No action/counter-action. Just... giving in.

Marcus pressed his forehead against her neck, groaning softly as Aurora traced circles on his back. He arched the small of his back into her touch, but the rest of his body relaxed, muscles flowing like water.

Her words finally registered, lightly in the back of his mind, and he sighed as he brushed her silver hair away from her neck. "So that's how you brought me back..." he sighed, breathing onto her skin.

He planted a kiss on her porcelain skin. Then he smirked playfully.

"How cliche..."

Almost absently, she's nuzzling against his neck; nose, tracing little circles against his neck in mirror of how her thumbs traced on the small of his back. When she felt him arch into it, she smiled, keeping it up. Guess he likes that...

"Heh. Yeah. But... I guess there's nothing wrong with being cliche some of the time, hm?" She questions quietly, lips hovering over his skin as she speaks.

Of course that kiss of his left goosebumps on her skin, she- after a moment- returning the favor, though it's more a glancing, delicate thing.

Heh. Guess he feels better now, playful twat.

How like him, to scare her so horribly and be playful now?

He'd get no complaints about it from her, though. She much preferred her Marcus to the one who had that horrid panic attack.

Marcus chuckled as he continued to kiss her neck, slowly and gently. "You take that back..." he growled softly.

He traced his fingertips down the nape of her neck. One his hands reached her shoulders, he pressed his palms firmly against her skin, dragging his hands over her shoulders... down her back, pressing her body tight against his chest.

"Take that back?" She repeats at him, sounding amused.

Her body trembled a bit as he pressed her so close- she, starting to have her own little bit of panic, then. She'd... she'd never been so close to him before, not in reality.

And he'd never quite made her feel like this before. No one had, and it was starting to scare her a little, coupled with his actions. But she was never one to back down from her fears.

If anything, she ran at them head-on with a loud "Come at me, bruh!" Maybe not with that literal wording, but normally, that was her attitude towards them. Come at me.

So she shivered a bit, and then tilted her head to go giving him a somewhat cheeky grin.

"Make me." She all but whispers, placing her lips right~ next to his ear just before she does to ensure he'd hear.
