S-so, some of you might have heard recently that I had a paper to work on for a class as a final exam. And by some of you, I mean Shisei. ._.; I regret to inform you that I am still procrastinating... in a rather odd way. I've been procrastinating writing with writing. xD It's weird, isn't it? But I plan on continuing this bit, and thought I might share it... somewhere. Enjoy! --------------------------- Darkness. That bleak and bitter void absent of any and all signs of light or life, sapping away at the energy of any who dared stare into it for too long. For a moment, an image hung in the air, colors altered because of the darkness stealing away the light necessary to keep it visible as it was before. Fading blues and greens and purples replaced the normal colors of it, but she would know that image anywhere. It was Milo, her Milo, and she smiles lightly even as his image faded from view. Ah, Milo... She could dream of him forever. She wished that she had the time for that; it would be the dreams of tonight that would last her through the next two years. But she couldn't. She could tell now that she was entirely awake, just staring into the backs of her eyelids as she thought of him and hoped for a return to that blissful darkness where he was ever-present. Maybe she wouldn't be noticed. Maybe her father would just forget about them for once, about her and her twin and their little sister Tabitha. Maybe they would be left alone, and she could allow herself to drift back into the wonderful world of sleep. It would be an easy enough task; she was left to wake her own self up every day so it would be a mere matter of remaining as quiet as possible and waiting for sleep to take her. Simple as that. With a quiet exhalation, she adjusted her blanket as silently as she could and drew thoughts of her Milo back to the forefront of her mind. Aah, Milo... Of course it was too good to be true; of course it was too easy; of course it was too much to ask to be left alone for once. "Natalie!" Came the hoarse yell from downstairs, the voice that of her probably hung-over father. "Get up NOW! Yer bus'll be here soon an' I ain't drivin' yer sorry ass to that blasted school if you miss it!" And then there was silence, save for the buzz of the television now on downstairs. She sat in her silence for a moment, before letting out a soft sigh and opening her eyes to stare at her sponged ceiling. So much for going back to sleep; so much for being left alone this morning to forget about the transition that would change her life forever. Without a sound, she slid back her covers, sitting upright after and moving to get out of bed. She glanced about her room with a frustrated scowl on her face, trying to remember which of the ten or so boxes held her clothes within, before three barely audible taps on her door caught her attention. "What?!" She snapped without thinking, clearly in quite a foul mood, though she quickly regretted it. "N-Nadia? Are you o-okay?" And the way her baby sister's voice sounded right then very nearly broke her heart. Oh, why did she snap, she knew better! Really... Quickly, she moved to open her door and scoop the small child of four into her arms for a tight hug, knowing it would make her smile and giggle. "Oh, my sweet Tabby-cat, I'm so sorry I snapped at you. I'm fine, of course... D'you need something?" She asks in a sweet, apologetic murmur as she hugs the girl. Of course her little Tabitha would forgive her; she was only four, something like this probably wouldn't be a big deal to her. But she didn't want to take any chances. "Good, Nadia!" Gods, she loved this little girl. She was so freaking adorable in how she said 'Nadia'; it sounded like 'Nanya' or 'Nana' as if she were shortening the word 'Banana'. Sooo cute. "Um, papa wants you to get up now, Nadia... A-and I don't want you to get in trouble, s-so..." Little Tabitha mumbled, and Nadia smiled. She gave her an affectionate squeeze and set her down on the floor with a quick ruffle of her hair. "I'll be ready to go in a minute, Tabby-cat, don't you worry a bit." She said brightly, before she tilted her head, noticing that the girl was still in pajamas and even was still holding the little brown bear that she had to sleep with every night. "Do you need help getting dressed?" She asked, and Tabitha seemed to think for a moment before giving a sheepish smile and nod to her big sister. "Y-yeah..." She said in a small voice, and without another word Nadia got up, went to a box she hoped had her clothes in it and opened it up. Yes~! Clothes! Victory. She was free. Well... sort of. With a grin to Tabitha she scooped up a few different articles and went back to her side. "Come on," She said, smiling brightly at her little Tabby-cat, "we'll get dressed together." -------------------------- AND THERE IT ENDS. I hope you enjoyed the brief escapade into my wild and insane imagination even if it's incomplete. I'll be working on it at school and (hopefully) will remember to post updates every now and again. c: <3 Thanks for reading! Also, as more of the story is revealed, I will be taking suggestions for a name of it... if enough people read and like it. ;-; <3 PS. If you read this and aren't on skype to give me your feedback, feel free to post a reply to here or PM me on-site.

Next part! This part is mostly just long and informative over actual stuff going on, so be prepared for walls and walls of text. Maybe. xD Also, apologies for any typos made. The keyboards at school are bulky and hard to type on as quickly as I'm used to, so sometimes I skip a letter here or there. xD So my bad and please bear with me, and let me know about the ones I make so I can correct them when I get home with a better keyboard. ![]() ------------------------------------ After getting dressed, the two went downstairs to get breakfast. Nadia wanted to be sure that her little tabby-cat had a good first meal--as she always did--even if she was too nervous to eat much of anything, herself. Ushering Tabitha into the kitchen, Nadia positioned herself to block the den from the little girl's view; she knew without looking that their father was seated in his reclining chair 'free as a bird', so-to-speak, and she didn't want her little tabby-cat to see that. Her young mind would forever be scarred by that sight; even Nadia's own had been and she didn't catch a glimpse until she was much older. Though she didn't look at the slob of a man in the rickety old chair, she did take a chance and peek at the old television; it was showing images of the Metropolis, with black-and-white roses all over the place. A woman's voice announced that the Month of Mourning had begun and repeated the facts that most, if not all, of the people watching already knew; that about 12 or so years ago, rebels seeking to incite a revolution launched highly dangerous explosives into the sky, setting it on fire and causing a bout of extreme panic within the heart of the heavily protected city. Rumor was that they were even so bold as to set them off from the Watcher's HQ, but no one really believed that tale. The Watchers were unable to calm the citizens and some became extremely violent; with the increasingly delicate and volatile situation, the Keepers were called in to help quell the chaos... Unfortunately, they had to employ some... unpleasant methods, and the exact number of lives lost is uncertain due to The Central Agency refusing to announce the exact tally. Estimates put the number up into the tens of thousands, though, and that isn't even counting those killed in the later weeks as retaliation by the Keepers to try and force the rebel cell out of hiding. Over the course of the next several months--bordering on a year after the event, even, later known as the St. Valentine's Day Massacre for the forgotten holiday it landed on, from the Time Before--the Keepers attempted to 'purge' the traitorous rebels from the city, apprehending anyone who had any negative thoughts towards TCA or any of their offshoot branches. The woman on the television went on and on about it, about how the short revolt would never have been stopped were it not for the Keepers and Watchers who were so bravely vigilant that night, but Nadia knew otherwise. To her, it was just one big load of BS. It wouldn'tve been the first time that TCA controlled the media and lied to the people they were so 'dead set' on protecting--more like controlling entirely, though--to cover up something that they messed up on. Nadia gave a light snort and shook her head as the woman went on to say that the ones believed responsible died during the aftermath of the 'Sky Fire'; yet another thing the girl of fifteen was hesitant to believe. No, it was much more likely that the ones who started it had been apprehended immediately and taken into custody, then shipped of to some secure location for questioning. Or maybe TCA had secretly been behind it all and the talk of rebellion was just a scapegoat for their latest experiment or whatnot. It wouldn't surprise her at all to find out that any one of her numerous theories about the event were true. Lost in her thoughts, Nadia barely paid any mind to the insistent tugging on her sleeve. "Nadia! Come on, you gotta eat too!" Tabitha tried, upset that her older sister seemed uninterested in breakfast, but to no avail. She soon gave up and disappeared into the kitchen to eat her food. Not even a full minute passed before a rather dashing young lad who looked very mature for his age came out, grabbed Nadia by the collar of her shirt and pulled her quite roughly into the kitchen. "OWOWOWOWOW! What the hell was that for?!" She hissed at him, grumbling as she rubbed at her neck where her shirt collar had been pulled into it. Ugh, brothers. Sooo annoying. He just smirked at her, then waved a hand dismissively. "That's what you get for ignoring our lovely, adorable, worry-wart of a little sister!" He declared, causing said sister to burst into a fit of little giggles before starting on her cereal. Nadia blinked then frowned. She'd been worrying? Again? She looked over to where Tabitha sat on a stool at the cluttered counter eating quite a small bit of old cereal out of a small, probably dirty bowl. She didn't look like she was enjoying it--not many would--but it would do. Nadia watched her eat for a minute, frown remaining steadfast on her face, and as she stared Aiden soon stared too, smirk turning to a frown to mirror hers. "You'll be able to do it, Aiden? Take care of her while I'm gone?" Nadia asked in a choked sort of whisper, not taking her eyes away from the little girl eating before her. Though she couldn't see it, his expression hardened considerably, mouth thinned into a small, tense line. "Of course, Nadia. I'l do everything I can to keep her safe and cared for." He said, voice set and tone determined, but despite that Nadia gave a faint smile. "And you won't forget anything? Like her lunch in the morning, or her dance bag in the evening? Or her bath toys? Or to set out her clothes before breakfast and her sleep clothes before bed? Or--" She wanted to go on and on; there was so much he didn't know about caring for their little sister that she wanted to tell him. But before she could continue, he wrapped her in a tight embrace, nose buried into her hair. "Stop worrying, Nadia. She'll be fine, I'll make sure of it." He said firmly, and just as she started to hug him back, he added, tone teasing, "Though I'm a bit hurt that you would worry over tabby-cat and not your own twin bother." At that, she stuck her tongue out at him and gave a light snort. "Oh, hush." She said, eyes rolling slightly. "You know I worry about you, too; I just didn't think that I needed to voice that part." She replies, shoving him away playfully. He moved to shove her back, but froze in place as a rare sound reached his ears. Nadia heard it too and was instantly silent, just listening closely to the sound of their little sister laughing. Of course she noticed the silence and soon stopped, returning to her food, but the silence remained. No one wanted to break it for fear that the lingering echo in their ears would fade and they would forget again what it sounded like.. Especially Nadia, who knew that this was likely the last time she would hear that sound for several years to come. ------------------------------------------------------ Aaaaannnnnddddd that's all, folks! Enjoy! c:
